Maybe I'm being too charitable here but kids actually don't learn cursive in school anymore. And Destiny's pretty young. It could've been out of the curriculum by the time she was in school?

I'm not saying she's like, smart-smart but there are reasonably intelligent people out there who believe in re,tarded shit like chemtrails.

Cursive was brought back for schools in 16 states. Which I think is smart, as relying on computers and phones to record everything is just not smart, especially as we don't know how long technology and the stuff recorded on it will truly last.
 
Not a doubt in my mind that Shane follows her or watches her videos to feel better about himself and his body and as motivation to not go back to his old eating habits. I mean, what other reason could it possibly be? Amber is a shitty person, but not in an "entertaining" (to some) way, like the people Shane makes videos on. Amber is straight up boring.

She goes back and forth between the haydur comments not phasing her (she's strong), and hurting her (she's a victim), depending on what narrative she wants to spin that particular day. At the moment I guess she wants to appear strong because until January she's going to avoid any and all actual mention of weight loss (except for the ever-ambiguous promise of "I AM losing you guys").

When AL writes its strikingly similar to a non native speaker in their first, maybe second year of English class, trying to compose an essay on some prompt like “What do you think about bullying?” etc. The overuse of basic I statements, the stiff wording, the short, choppy phrases...It’s really impressive for a 30 year old woman who has lived in America her whole life and hasn’t even been near another language to influence her.
 
I don't think Destiny is a mental giant or anything, but I don't think she's dumb or even slow, she's just profoundly average. But she is motivated to work, able to keep steady employment, and willing to learn. In FL, she was taking college courses when amber first moved there and before amber got the job where destiny was working. I don't know if she stopped because she had less time while carting amber around, or she stopped when they moved to KY. Also, at the care home where she and dana were working in FL, destiny proudly talked about the various certifications and courses the job paid for her to take/get. (it was kind of funny because Dana was like "me too!" and destiny was amber-level jerky and said something like "well, you worked in the kitchen and you just got a CPR certificate, I worked with the patients and got medical certificates")

Destiny is simple, but I think it's a preference, not an intellectual indicator. I think she just doesn't like deep discussion, likes to be silly and act like a teen, but I think she's otherwise capable, just, as I said before, profoundly average. For example, she probably doesn't enjoy reading anything other than graphic novels, but is probably capable of reading at a higher level than amber.

RE: the cursive, someone said this at the time, and based on google, it's true. For a while there, cursive books were like relaxation activities and there are tons of cursive "coloring" books, in the same way adult coloring books were popular or zentangle coloring books.

All that said, I can totally understand why people think she's exceptional or dumb. Act like a fool, people are going to think you're a fool. Plus, she was baked in a lot of the early videos in their relationship which gave her the goofy grin and dead-behind-the-eyes look, only exacerbating the the image that she was dumber than a box of rocks.
