Culture Alex Jones and InfoWars banned permanently from Twitter - The gay chemicals got to him

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/09/06/twitter-permanently-bans-alex-jones-and-infowars-accounts.html

Twitter has permanently banned the accounts of right-wing conspiracy theorist and radio host Alex Jones and InfoWars, the company said Thursday.

The accounts violated the company's abusive behavior policies, Twitter said in a series of tweets. The ban comes weeks after Jones was banned or suspended by other major tech companies like Apple, Facebook and YouTube. Twitter had initially declined to take disciplinary action against Jones, saying the accounts had not violated community guidelines, but later suspended him for a period of seven days.

"We took this action based on new reports of Tweets and videos posted yesterday that violate our abusive behavior policy, in addition to the accounts' past violations," the company said. "We wanted to be open about this action given the broad interest in this case."

Accounts for Jones and Infowars were also banned from Twitter-owned Periscope. Jones will not be able to recreate his presence on the sites under another account.

Jones appeared at congressional hearings Wednesday where Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey addressed online election meddling, as well as accusations of political bias and conservative censorship on the platform. At the hearings, Jones ranted at a CNN reporter and streamed the exchange on Periscope.

So let me get this right.. The nigga gets protected by Jack despite the entirety of the internet screeching for his bann (that includes normies btw), the man literally overruled his staff to keep this nigga on, then he decides to break ToS again in Jack's direct presence, and all of you think Jack is the stupid/bad person in all this?

Jack does a lot of stupid shit, but you all need to live in the real world more.

No one is required to put your free speech on the platform they pay for, especially if you're gonna be retarded enough to harass a politician on stream. People are free to kick you out of their capitalistic enterprises whenever they feel like it, hell, they don't even have to give you a reason for it either.
He did something off of their website, so they decided to ban him permanently from their website...?

Do ToS now extend offline?
He did it on their platform (Periscope). Plus, they changed their ToS to include off-platform actions as ban-worthy.

Jones got banned for "abusive" behavior in the form of giving a hostile interview. To other hostile interviewers get banned, or is it just him? I think we all know the answer to that one.
Just like how doxing is "against the ToS," yet Kurt Eichenwald did it and still has his account and checkmark.
Just like how racism is "against the ToS," yet Sarah Jeong still has her account and blue checkmark.
Just like death threats are "against the ToS," yet Twitter was perfectly willing to let them slide against Dana Loesch's kids.

The nub of the problem is that Jack has no credibility after the years of shit his platform has been pulling (shadowbans, trend manipulation, autocomplete fuckery, completely arbitrary enforcement of the rules) and this problem extends to the much-vaunted "ToS," which mean everything and nothing depending on what Twitter staff feels like at any given moment. Alex Jones gives a pissy interview? The monster! He must be banned at once! Zoey Tur threatens to put Ben Shapiro in the hospital? Eh, whatever. There's no transparency, no appeals process, no reason for anyone to think that the ToS aren't simply invoked as a fig leaf for whatever the staff feels like doing at the time.

Tl;dr: citing ToS means nothing when the ToS themselves demonstrably mean nothing.

Lol did you actually see what he did?

Pretending to be a Russian bot, he shouted homophobic insults at senators and made bleeping noises as he walked around corridors.

After spotting Mr Rubio, he moved in on his interview and attempted to elicit a response from him about his website's treatment.

“Is that a heckler at a press gaggle?” Mr Rubio said. “I just don’t know who you are, man. I don’t really read your website.”

At one point, Mr Jones patted the Florida Republican on the shoulder.

“Get your hand off me. Don't touch me again, man," Mr Rubio said.

After Mr Jones suggested that Mr Rubio would try and get him arrested, the Florida senator replied: "You're not going to get arrested. I'll take care of it myself.”

Mr Jones then responded: "Rubio just threatened to physically take care of me. Look at him, he's so mad. You're not going to silence me. You're not going to silence America. You are a little gangster thug."

As the conversation ended Mr Rubio called Mr Jones “a clown” as he walked away.

Mr Jones responded by calling him a “frat boy” and a “little punk”.

He had earlier livestreamed his arrival at the hearing on Twitter. Large parts of it were difficult to follow or indecipherable, but he shouted a number of insults as well as making strange remarks towards the camera.

In any case, like @Splendid Meat Sticks said, two wrongs don't make a right, and Twitter is not required to ban someone just because they banned another person, that is schoolyard logic.

Alex Jones got more than enough rope, and he still used it to hang himself. How this man doesn't have a thread here is just beyond me, he is the very definition of a careercow.

Also, another thing, people screeching about tweets only gives the person who made them an opportunity to delete them. You need to actually report the accounts in order to get anything done, this is how people like Kurt Eichenwald or Sarah Jeong actually survive on those platforms.

But they do make an even.

and Twitter is not required to ban someone just because they banned another person, that is schoolyard logic.

If assuming that there's a reasonable expectation of equitable treatment is "schoolyard logic," pass the PB&J. Besides, if your argument is "lol, life's not fair," why cite the ToS at all? Because the ToS doesn't mean anything, as previously demonstrated.

Also, another thing, people screeching about tweets only gives the person who made them an opportunity to delete them. You need to actually report the accounts in order to get anything done, this is how people like Kurt Eichenwald or Sarah Jeong actually survive on those platforms.

Nibba what?

You seriously think that people weren't reporting Jeong's tweets all throughout that to-do? Twitter even got back to some of them saying they violated the ToS, and then proceeded to do fuck-all. Meanwhile, they banned Candice Owens for repeating Jeong's tweets with the target group changed. So, demonstrably, 1) they knew, and didn't enforce their own rules, and 2) were willing to enforce those same rules against other people who did the exact same thing, so there's no argument that this wasn't a rule.

...or, the rules mean nothing since they're applied so capriciously as to be meaningless.

He's still got enough internet coverage elsewhere to retain his status as a schizotypal laughingstock. Sure, Twitter's a sizeable platform, but nothing of value ever came form there, so what's the loss? His fanbase will follow him regardless.

No, I don't buy the free speech argument, because AFAIK free speech doesn't come with a TOS agreement attached, so twitter can ban whoever the fuck they want from their site.

But they do make an even.
If you say so.

If assuming that there's a reasonable expectation of equitable treatment is "schoolyard logic," pass the PB&J.
Equitable treatment is expected for equivalent actions, each of the instances of retardation that you mentioned is completely different (and they're all retards, I fully agree on this), and may require different treatments.

Furthermore, if those people manage to delete actionable tweets before they get reported, then what are Twitter staff supposed to do? sift through each and every archive/screencap floating on the chans and match it to their databases? Do you realize how costly and time-consuming that is?

Besides, if your argument is "lol, life's not fair," why cite the ToS at all? Because the ToS doesn't mean anything, as previously demonstrated.
My argument isn't "lol life is unfair", my argument is that if you want to stay on a platform, you abide by its stated rules, which you agreed to when using it, no one can ban you if you didn't violate the rules, at least in theory.

Even then, Alex Jones was kept on the platform against mainstream public opinion, he then proceeded to act like a retard directly in front of the man who, like him or not, gave him a reprieve.

You can't argue for free markets and at the same time dictate how people run their businesses, those are two inherently contradictory notions. If Fashion Square Mall can ban Chris for being a retard on their premises, then Twitter can ban Alex Jones for being a retard on their platforms (btw I love that you skipped the part where I included what he did, because that's totally not cow behavior at all, that's a totally benign and human behavior..).

Do you have caps of those reports (and those staff replies)? All I have seen is people like Ethan Ralph and IMC tard raging about this online and getting mad retweets. I honestly won't be surprised if none of them bothered to actually report the tweets, why would they do that when there's nice outrage to write about?

The point here is, SJWs know how to game the system, and if you want to fight them, then you have to get good at gaming the system yourself, no one wins by whining.

Morally speaking you can argue as much as you want, but the deplatforming campaign is seemingly working cause Alex's new stuff on his app are getting a tiny fraction of the views he got on Youtube. Does anyone have an idea what avenues he has left to get back on his feet?

Actually, he showed the metrics from his own servers on his views and such.

His viewership has actually doubled and he's making more money than ever, but the problem is people are filing frivolous lawsuits against him. He's had most thrown out of court - and has shown the documents on his show.

Lol did you actually see what he did?

Watched his full video of it.

He tapped a Senator on a shoulder, asked him questions, the Senator pretended like he hadn't heard of Alex Jones being censored and gave a snide smile - even though it was one of the topics of a senate meeting. -Shrug.-

Three pages and none of you fuckers mention Oliver Darcy? Jones got into a shouting match with that little rat fink (Darcy's been blatantly pushing for the removal of a number of people from social media, particularly ol' Mr. Gay Frogs himself).

Jones may have poked the bear one too many times, but you're deluding yourself if you think it had anything to do with Rubio.

Is that a normal thing to do when meeting a senator? Do you greet your senator with a tap on the shoulder?
asked him questions
He didn't just ask questions, he was heckling and was clearly looking for a way to create further controversy. This is the exact same behavior people on here criticize feminists and SJWs for.

You are whiteknighting a cow with zero irony.

LOL when even CNN people make you look trolled, you have to just hang it up :story:

If Twitter is a public forum from which one cannot be barred from participation, how can Twitter ban any user?

Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald, addressing a novel issue about how the Constitution applies to social media platforms and public officials, found that the president’s Twitter feed is a public forum. As a result, she ruled that when Mr. Trump or an aide blocked seven plaintiffs from viewing and replying to his posts, he violated the First Amendment.

Sounds like Twitter would have to provide Alex Jones with access to his accounts, even if they restrict them to only be able to tweet at and respond to the president.

That's not what that ruling means.

It means Trump is using it for official presidential business.

If Trump held a press conference in a Wendy's, he couldn't ban democrats because he doesn't like their politics. Wendy's, however, can ban junkies from shooting up in the bathroom.

If Twitter is a public forum from which one cannot be barred from participation, how can Twitter ban any user?
Public forum here means a place where people can talk to government officials.

The very moment Trump stops being president, he will be able to block as many people as he pleases, and what's more fascinating imo, Twitter will have the ability to ban him, I think it will be very interesting to see how they deal with his account post-presidency, closest thing to mind is that they clone the tweets he's made as president into a separate archival account, and then either let him have control of his account or just ban him.

Equitable treatment is expected for equivalent actions, each of the instances of exceptionalism that you mentioned is completely different (and they're all exceptional individuals, I fully agree on this), and may require different treatments.

The Candice Owens/ Sarah Jeong switcheroo is a textbook case of apples to apples, and got different treatments. And before you say "twitter dindu nuffin cuz the thousands of people who said they reported her were all lazy and lying and she deleted the tweets," no, she didn't. See for yourself:

Agreed, "in theory." Unfortunately, in trivially observable fact, it doesn't work that way: your treatment is almost entirely determined by your politics and your position on the progressive stack. This constant grasping at straws to sidestep the fact that Twitter's credibility is more blown out than Zinnia Jones's asshole is morbidly amusing, but that's about all I'll say for it.

You can't argue for free markets and at the same time dictate how people run their businesses, those are two inherently contradictory notions.

Watch me: "free markets are generally preferable to regulation due to their superior efficiency. However, natural monopolies are a corner case that require government intervention because both outcomes (multiple competitors operating on the wrong side of economies of scale, or a single company with monopoly power) are bad for consumers. Therefor, natural monopolies like Twitter should be forced to abide by the same rules as water, power, and telephone companies with regards to non-discrimination."

(btw I love that you skipped the part where I included what he did, because that's totally not cow behavior at all, that's a totally benign and human behavior..).

Start ranting about "schoolyard logic," then go in for passive-aggressive name-calling when I don't re-copy your copypasta about what happened. The irony is strong with this one. Why would I respond to that? It's not the events themselves that are under question, but your interpretation of them, and constant refusal to acknowledge the fact that the Twitter rules are so capriciously applied as to be effectively meaningless.

This is a point you keep conspicuously refusing to address, incidentally: I've demonstrated over and over that Twitter is all over the place when it comes to actually enforcing their stated rules, but you just keep bleating about "muh ToS!" as if that means anything in a context where there's no transparency or accountability as to how notional rules are applied. Spoilers: it doesn't.

The point here is, SJWs know how to game the system, and if you want to fight them, then you have to get good at gaming the system yourself, no one wins by whining.

If you believe that, I have two bridges I'd like to sell you. First, SJWs have no special knowledge of hostile system gaming. The reason it works for them is that they people they're complaining to are SJWs themselves, and ideologically predisposed to be sympathetic to their complaints- IOW, the fix is in. Second, because the fix is in, SJWs get results by doing nothing but whining. The right-wing equivalent would be to complain to sympathetic right-wing tech staff to get people they don't like banned except, oops, there aren't any of those. Take a look at the tiny slice of geography where most of these companies are located and you might get the first clue as to why that is.

Sorry to unbury this thread to bring it back from the dead but Elon Musk polls users about letting Alex Jones back on Twitter now known as X.

Elon Musk Polls Users About Letting Alex Jones Back On X

Elon Musk created a poll on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter, asking users if Alex Jones should be allowed back on the platform Saturday since the conspiracy theorist was banned years ago. And while the poll still has about 10 hours left before it’s completed, most X users appear to be voting “yes, Jones should be allowed back.”

“Reinstate Alex Jones on this platform? Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” Musk tweeted on Saturday, using a Latin phrase that means the voice of the people is the voice of God.

Roughly 71% of users who voted want Jones reinstated at the time of this writing, with about 500,000 votes cast so far. The poll has 10 hours left until it’s completed. Musk has previously said only “verified” users of the platform who pay $8 per month should be allowed to vote in X polls, though it’s not clear if that applies to this particular poll.
