I think 90% of it just comes from the desire to justify hating someone. If there's a celebrity you don't like but you dislike them for a dumb reason, all you have to do is bring up the fact that he dated a 24 year old woman at 39, find a way to link it to pedophilia, and now everyone's just as petty as you.
I disagree here. 13 with 17 is pretty disgusting and I'd absolutely call a 17 year old fucking a 13 year old a pedo. That's one year away from 18 and 14.
Not a fan of a 16 yr old with a 20 yr old either.
17 is barely a minor honestly. A lot of coercion could happen with that, seniors are grooming and coercing freshmen all the time.
The lines I drew were rather arbitrary I guess, they were just to adhere to the conventional cutoffs of 13, 16, 18, 21, and 25 respectively being the "big birthdays". Maybe a slightly revised system could be
under 13: no fucking
13-15: you can fuck someone at most 2 years older than you
16-17: you can fuck someone at most 3 years older than you
18-20: you can fuck someone at most 4 years older than you
21+: go crazy i don't care
I guess a lot of it depends on context. 17 is probably a grown up compared to someone who's 12-13, but is definitely still very much a baby compared to say a 25 year old or even a 21 year old. Childhood-Adolescence-Adulthood is a spectrum with no absolute hard boundaries, but obviously that doesn't mean we should just abolish all age of consent laws as some hard lines still have to be drawn. Though using this to argue that the age of consent is inane is like hiding under the excuse "art is subjective" to convince others that your crude Sonic the Hedgehog smut is the peak of literature. Which is why I suggested a hybrid/piecewise framework where instead of just setting a hard 18 cutoff, I tiered the maximum legal age one can fuck based on age ranges.
