I think 90% of it just comes from the desire to justify hating someone. I disagree here. 13 with 17 is pretty disgusting and I'd absolutely call a 17 year old fucking a 13 year old a pedo. That's one year away from 18 and 14.

The lines I drew were rather arbitrary I guess, they were just to adhere to the conventional cutoffs of 13, 16, 18, 21, and 25 respectively being the "big birthdays". Maybe a slightly revised system could be

I guess a lot of it depends on context. 17 is probably a grown up compared to someone who's 12-13, but is definitely still very much a baby compared to say a 25 year old or even a 21 year old. Childhood-Adolescence-Adulthood is a spectrum with no absolute hard boundaries, but obviously that doesn't mean we should just abolish all age of consent laws as some hard lines still have to be drawn. Though using this to argue that the age of consent is inane is like hiding under the excuse "art is subjective" to convince others that your crude Sonic the Hedgehog smut is the peak of literature. Which is why I suggested a hybrid/piecewise framework where instead of just setting a hard 18 cutoff, I tiered the maximum legal age one can fuck based on age ranges.

Actually if you look up the legislative debates about age of consent reform in the 1970s and 1980s, most of it centered around discouraging out-of-wedlock teen pregnancies, nothing to do with concerns about pedophilia, hence why a marriage license is an absolute exemption to age of consent laws in the US despite most states having no minimum age limit for marriage until the past 20 years.
