It's a fun question to ask because a lot of the age gap discourse revolves around the "your brain isn't finished developing until you're 25" factoid. So I'm proffering if this means it's less creepy for a 25 year old to date someone twice their age than someone seven years younger.

I dunno if I'd say the 50 year old is being taken advantage of, though. If they were 75 then yeah, it's starting to look like grave-robbing. But at 50 you're still pretty sharp and have your wits about you, you're not young but you're far from being in your dotage.

I used 18, 21, and 25 as age cutoffs here because that’s just how the tiers are done traditionally in the US.

Its always funny to me this thing about your brain not being fully developed until 25. First, its a myth, and second, if it were true, was not make the age of majority 25? Instead we allow 18 year olds to join the army, marry, vote, star in porn, etc. but then of course, you have to be 21 to drink and now you can't even buy smokes at 18, that's been moved up to 21. If you can't be trusted with a beer, you can't be trusted with a rifle in ButtFuckistan. The fact that in America you can be charged as an adult for the crime of "minor in possession" is an irony that I don't understand why no one else notices.

This is the correct take. At some point, you have to come to terms with the fact that you're at an age where you can't be a retard and then cry "but I'm just a hecking 18 year-old child! My brain isn't even developed!" to hide from the consequences. It won't work anyways.
 
Sex before puberty? Criminal. Death Penalty automatically.
Sex after puberty but before sexual maturity? Criminal. Death Penalty on the table depending on the circumstances.
Sex at or after sexual maturity but before the age of 20? While not inherently criminal it should be considered a shameful act and carry social consequences.

I think 90% of it just comes from the desire to justify hating someone. If there's a celebrity you don't like but you dislike them for a dumb reason, all you have to do is bring up the fact that he dated a 24 year old woman at 39, find a way to link it to pedophilia, and now everyone's just as petty as you.

17 is barely a minor honestly. A lot of coercion could happen with that, seniors are grooming and coercing freshmen all the time.

A lot of states of a Romeo and Juliet law type exemption for people around the age of majority, and I think 3 years is acceptable. Its been years since I was in high school but I remember back then it was highly frowned upon for seniors to date freshman. 3 year allowance puts 15 as the youngest an 18 year old can date. It also prevents a 19 year old from being punished for dating a 17 year old. Without some sort of grace period, you end up with the situation that two 17 year olds will be dating, then one turns 18 and its suddenly a crime. Ultimately, I think if a person is close enough to you in age that you were in high school during most of the same years, it isn't an issue.

Sure. I work with 20 year olds and they're still children. Law should follow morality anyways; not the other way around. And why the hell should law follow the one exception? Any reasonable society would allow for such exceptions to exist anyways by virtue of common sense.

Morality determines how things should be, law determines how things actually are. By infantilizing adults, you're only hurting them. The fact is, if an 18 year old drives recklessly and ends up killing a 5 year old crossing in the street, they will be tried as adults and they will go to prison, not juvenile justice. "I'm just a dumb kid! My brain isn't even fully developed." is not going to work out in court.

There's a fine line where you are no longer protected from your own retarded actions and that line is your 18th birthday.
