I don't usually post in this thread, but since it's a thread for "noticing", it seems like the best place.

YouTube popped up a video for me of some guy driving through neighborhoods that were unsafe (and obviously all gad the same type of people), and I noticed something. When I think about "hoods", I'm always thinking of places that are shitty, poor, run down, but he's driving through places where yes, that's true, but none of them had to be that way. I think it was in Memphis, but the neighborhood had all these nice little houses with little yards, and where I live it would be a regular middle class neighborhood. It just needed some care and willingness to fix things up, and suddenly those houses are homes for young families.

The people living there didn't maintain or fix anything. Their actions and crime made the neighborhoods shitty and run down. If anyone moved there and started improving things, they'd be villains for "gentrifying" the place. They complain about lack of investment, but won't even invest some time into taking care of their home or neighborhood, and equally complain if anyone else tries to go in and make it a nice place to live.

It's a no win situation, where anyone fixing things is wrong, but leaving them to fix it themselves is also wrong. There is no better sign of people unwilling to improve their situation than that.

This is one of the predominant reasons segregation existed. Our ancestors did things the way they did for a reason.

If you did acquire a house there and you did so much as manage the lawn and get the exterior repainted, I would expect one of the following to happen within like two weeks.

• Home invasion
• Armed robbery as you enter or leave the home
• House sprayed with random 2am gunfire

The level of ambient resentment in the Community for anyone improving anything and getting a leg up in life can't be exaggerated. Nobody "pocket-watches" like black people, to borrow a slang term straight from the Community; they see nice things appear around you that they don't have, and they would rather nobody have that. I hate to be crass but is the same thing chimps do if you give one of them a present and not the others. They will tear you apart as well as the chimp you gifted.
