ABC has pulled the plug on the revival “Roseanne.”

The move comes after series star Roseanne Barr made a comment on Twitter Tuesday morning referring to former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett as the offspring of the “Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes.”

“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said in a statement.

Barr deleted her tweet about Jarrett not long after posting it. She followed it up with an apology which read, “I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste. I am now leaving Twitter.”

The revival of the classic sitcom was set to air a 13-episode eleventh season this fall. The move represents a remarkable turn of events for the network, Barr, and a show that finished the season as the No. 1 scripted primetime television series in the 18-49 demo, according to Nielsen live-plus-same say numbers.





Just two weeks ago at ABC’s upfront presentation, Barr introduced Disney-ABC Television Group president Ben Sherwood, joking that he was “the guy responsible for most of my tweets.” Sherwood and Barr hugged onstage, and the the exec noted that ABC had not had television’s No. 1 show in 24 years. Dungey, during her portion of the presentation, bragged that “The premiere ratings even took us by surprise,” claiming that 1 in 10 Americans has seen the “Roseanne” revival premiere.

Lovecraft was born in 1890, not centuries ago. But his affected and very "British" style of writing makes him seem like an author from an earlier age, which is what he intended.

And as for Lovecraft's status, don't assume his legacy is safe from attack even now. Academics do not generally consider him to be an "important" author, and there's little doubt his bigotry is the main reason why. Ask yourself how measured their praise of his obvious skill would be if he had been anything but a white, straight man, bigotry or no. I promise you they'd be "rediscovering" him now and pushing him hard in English courses despite his genre "limitations" and "problematic" statements.

All academics are any good at is telling you who won after they already won, and this is usually within a century or so after someone dies.

Similarly, Charles Dickens was considered a mawkish hack (with some reason) while he was alive, and openly mocked by the literati, including Oscar Wilde for that matter. Guess whose novels are still considered classics?

Academics are not that important in the long run. They have very high opinions of themselves, which are generally not shared by anyone other than them.

The snopes article that "debunks" Soros as a Nazi collaborator says the interview with his own words is "problematic" because he both admits to helping with the confiscation of property for Jews, and denies it, as well as says "if I weren't there, someone else would have been, so I don't feel bad."
