Realised that focusing on realism is probably slowing me down, and i should practice fundamentals on basic models and then upgrade things later on, so have been messing about with low poly models and instancing the past couple of days. going to try making a small kids animation and was creating a set to animate some basic characters within. whole scene is about 188000 faces and using less than 30 individual objects. only crashed my pc once when i instanced a few hundred thousand trees at once by accident. last hour or so i decided to stick some animation paths in and see what i could do, and how long it would take to render, as individual frames were taking less than 2 seconds for the most part using eevee. knocked up this crude bee and parented it to the empty the camera is tracking. camera is on one track whilst the bee is on another. starting to get my head around all the different aspects now and finding it far easier and faster to get things done, also being able to figure stuff out myself without having to search for a tutorial.

Trying to make a single 3D model for a 1970's Cold War scenario, unfortunately the Clausewitz Engine eludes me and I'm unsure of how to make this model look like a special forces Ooperator. Also need a servicable SG 550 3D model.

This level of detail got you a job at Pixar a few decades ago. Genuinely got me wondering why anyone bother trying to get into 3D anymore.

I´m trying to model a Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale from 1967, complete with engine, suspension, interior and all the detail you can see and not see. (because I´m a retard) And im trying to do the underside of the front part bodywork. And for the love of god, its hard as fuck. Specially when you need to have the same number of vertices of the bodywork you see to conect them afterwards.

Now i understand why the Gran Turismo team takes like 6 months to model a car even if the have laserscaning.

Or maybe im just rust from not modeling such detail for some time lol.

That the sad reality of this. Stupid level of detail and perfect 3d workflow, Uvs and textures does not mean shit anymore. You need to be the master at everything, dominate like 6 to 10 programs and then have a portfolio AAA ready.

For me, this is more like a hobby, even if i have a degree on it. I prefer to have a stable job than work on this TRYING to make it, with 0 dollars.

I'm trying to get into modelling, I currently have blender but don't know where to start. I really want to make astartes type stuff and would like to know where to start, what the process is and softwares required.

Watch this guy, follow along with his lessons. The more you do the more beginner fundamentals you will grasp.

I recommend completing the chess set, (although he stopped making vids before his knight video).

Realised that i really need to bother compositing my renders so they look more like i envision, as what looks great for me on my monitor is not translating when i upload and share or send to my mobile devices.
Trying to find stuff that may inspire my kids to have a go at 3d art and saw a tutorial that i liked the idea of, so followed along. Simple stuff but the concept was nice and not something i would think of myself as i like creating more sci fi/zombie/cyberpunk/medieval style stuff.

Was the channel if anyone is interested in cutesy girly style designs.

Quite enjoying "things in liquid" , secret is that there is no liquid- it is just an object with the alpha turned near off and the coloured emission pushed up. work in progress- not following any tutorials or reference, just making it up as I go. (obviously riff on old world blues/futurama/ age old brain in jar idea) brainiac1.png

My friends, I've finally gotten enough free time that I can sit my ass down and play with my digital dough. Currently I'm doing some course on anatomy for the torso, but I want to focus on something specific while I do it. Has any of you seen those 3D sculpts extremely defined planes? I think that shit is sexy as all hell and would like to learn how to achieve it.

So far I'm just trying to make do with scrape/flatten/grab/pinch brushes but I think I'm missing some information/tools, and I would really appreciate it if someone could point me to the right direction.

maybe mask the area you want to flatten, invert the mask then you can flatten the area without effecting the edge angles?. split the model down the centre on z and use mirror mod for symmetry.
