last of the Geo Node tuts completed. it is a bit like plugging guitar fx pedals together and seeing what comes out then twiddling the dials. Guys lessons were worth the time
and i learned some stuff, but he did them all in orange and white so I spent a bit more time at the end to give the renders a bit of personalisation with different colours and shapes. Tut package was created by https://www.youtube.com/@TheDucky3D and his channel is full of decent tips and step by step stuff and worth a look.

Última edición:
The natural next step to this render is to go from a neutral lighting setup to one which emulates an orange/purple sunset (that would be stunning and very "aesthetic")
A lot harder than you would expect. I reckon lighting low light/dark areas well is something that would take time to master.

So does anybody else here actually create stuff in 3d? And do these threads get deleted after X time without a post?

It's really nothing compared to what's been posted in this thread, I just make dumb Japanese style robots.
Post your stuff as others might be inspired and want to know how you did certain things. I only asked if anybody else actually creates stuff because i was/am starting to feel like this thread was becoming like my blog, and nothing else gets posted here.
I have took a break for a bit as i usually do after i have been grasped by the eye of the sperg. Thinking i might try and make and animate an alien monster of some kind after watching a few tuts but enjoying project zomboid a bit too much atm.

Alright. So for context when I first got into 3D I used a very rudimentary (shitty) 3D application called Sketchup. I fought with it for years just trying to make something I didn't immediately hate with fresh eyes the next day. This was back when Blender was still a mess of an excuse for 3d software so I grew comfortable in Sketchup (a big mistake). Since then I've moved onto Blender but because of my laziness and other shit I don't really have a full piece to show. My knowledge and skill is mostly with simple box modeling and a very simplistic understanding of UVs and rigging. Oh, and yes I'm too lazy to render this stuff myself.

This was the first thing I completely modeled in Sketchup. I never textured it and had a buddy render it in v-ray.

This was my attempt at making a Gundam but I think I tried too hard to make it look "original". Again it was rendered by my buddy.

After those two I was trying to help on a Gundam mmorpg private server project that ultimately fizzled out. During that time I transitioned from Sketchup to Blender; while getting used to it I made these:

This is suppose to be the EMS-10 Zudah from Mobile Suit Gundam (MS Igloo). The game was made in 2003 so I tried to replicate the level of detail and polygonal density of the game's original models; I like to think I succeeded. I learned a lot when making this guy.

-Also a couple of random things I made for the game:

This is a spiked knuckle shield. I was using this to test out baked ambient occlusion maps and simple drawn on detail as to replicate the look of the original game (it was ancient).

This is a kind of repair gun the robots would use to heal other players, never got around to texturing it but I was at some point working on the UV map for it. (completely forgot)

Lastly, a simple landmine. This was the first thing I textured. Amazing, I know.

There you have it. My entirety of work I didn't just delete or shove into a folder in some unfinished state that I felt was unsalvageable. I still model everything through ye olde box modeling and maybe now that I've dumped everything here I might just make some new stuff? Like I said I'm only really interested in making these dumb robots. At the very least I should texture and rig the Zudah.

That is some good stuff. The red robot especially is fantastic imop. You should try throwing a skeleton in it, https://www.mixamo.com/#/
and learning how to do lazer blasts from emptys. I am not even a weeb and i am thinking about trying to make one now.
I think the joints would be too loose in mixamo for a robot. You'd want to separate each limb/joint and tie them to a bone otherwise you'll get like weird deformation in your hard surface modeling

Yeah I think Mixamo is designed for organic models as JCT says. Not that I would use it anyway since it's from (((Adobe))). So nah, I think I'll watch some quick videos on basic rigging and do that stuff on my own.

If i try an picture the deform then yes you are probably right. I had not thought about the limbs being solid blocks with no real give exept at the joints. I would still throw it in just to see what happens though.
Would probably need some manualy applied weight painting to cull the stretching of areas no matter how you rig it.
