39 people found dead in lorry container - Essex, UK

The bodies of 39 people have been found in a lorry container in Essex.

Police were called by the ambulance service shortly before 01:40 BST after the discovery at Waterglade Industrial Park in Eastern Avenue, Grays.

The lorry driver, a 25-year-old man from Northern Ireland, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Essex Police said the vehicle travelled from Bulgaria and entered the UK via Holyhead, Anglesey, on Saturday.

Early indications are that 38 adults and one teenager have died, the force said. There were no survivors.

Deputy Chief Constable Pippa Mills said identifying the victims "remains our number one priority".

She appealed for anyone with information about the route the lorry may have taken, or anyone who had seen the vehicle or knew about its journey, to get in touch.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson told Prime Minister's Questions it was an "unimaginable tragedy and truly heartbreaking".

He said: "I know that the thoughts and prayers of all members will be with those who lost their lives and their loved ones. I'm receiving regular updates. The Home Office will work closely with Essex Police as we establish exactly what has happened."

Irish Premier Leo Varadkar told the Dail that the deaths were a "human tragedy", adding that investigations would be undertaken to establish if the lorry had passed through Ireland.

Home Secretary Priti Patel said she was "shocked and saddened by this utterly tragic incident", while Thurrock MP Jackie Doyle-Price said it was "sickening news".

"People trafficking is a vile and dangerous business," Ms Doyle-Price tweeted, adding that she hoped Essex Police could "bring these murderers to justice".

Seamus Leheny, Northern Ireland policy manager for the Freight Transport Association, said if the lorry had come from Bulgaria, getting into Britain via Holyhead was an "unorthodox route".

He said: "People have been saying that security and checks have been increased at places like Dover and Calais, so it might be seen as an easier way to get in by going from Cherbourg or Roscoff, over to Rosslare, then up the road to Dublin.

"It's a long way around and it'll add an extra day to the journey."

The National Crime Agency said it had sent officers to assist the investigation and identify any "organised crime groups who may have played a part". Ch Supt Andrew Mariner, from Essex Police, said he expected identifying the victims would be a "lengthy process".

It's quite chaotic here and the number of bystanders and reporters is continuing to grow.

The industrial estate is huge and has lots of multi-national companies. The nearest residential property must be about half a mile away.

Glen Freeland, from GSF Car Parts, which is close to where the bodies were found, said staff could not access their premises on Eastern Avenue.

"The manager went to get into work this morning and it was cordoned off and we've been moved to a different area," Mr Freeland said.

The 2000 Dover incident involved Chinese nationals too
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000_Dover_incident
I originally confused that incident with the Morecambe Bay event. In which 21 Chinese illegal immigrants died while harvesting British cockles because apparently British people can't cackle their own cockles.

Is there an over-representation in citizens of the Han Empire in deaths in such cases? If so, it is probably due to their innate character traits of being submissive when told to do so, and shrill disgusting harridans when told to do so (as is the case in the West- see Sarah Liu).

If Wikipedia is to be trusted they payed their illegal chinese workers 5 quid for 25kg (or 9p per lb) of cockles. That's the reasons why nobody hires british/legal citizens anymore, because the illegals work for cheap. That's also the reason why there is that ridiculous amount of mass immigration, because the companies want to hire cheap labor and use their mouthpieces in the parliaments to exactly reach that goal.

I think the real area that goes ignore or conveniently ignored, especially in the case of Chinese FOB's is the fact that the single biggest predatory exploiters are other Chinese nationals. It's rare in the UK to have a FOB sob story though. That's more Vancouver's sort of jam.

Essex lorry deaths: Vietnamese families fear relatives among dead

At least three of the 39 people found dead in a lorry trailer in Essex may have been from Vietnam.

The BBC knows of three Vietnamese people whose relatives are worried they may have been in the trailer.

Pham Thi Tra My, 26, has not been heard from since she sent urgent messages on Tuesday saying she could not breathe.

Her brother says she had paid £30,000 to people smugglers and her last-known location had been Belgium.

The last message they received from her was at 22:30 BST on Tuesday - two hours before the trailer arrived at the Purfleet terminal from a ferry that had left Zeebrugge in Belgium.

The BBC also knows of two other Vietnamese nationals who are missing - a 26-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman. People smugglers are understood to have returned money to families of suspected victims.

The brother of the 19-year-old said his sister called him at 07:20 Belgian local time (06:20 BST) on Tuesday, saying she was getting into a container and was turning off her phone to avoid detection.

He has not heard from her since.

He said a people smuggler returned money to the family overnight, and the family of the 26-year-old who she was travelling with also received money back.

The victims of the trailer were 31 men and eight women and Essex Police initially said they were all believed to be Chinese.

"I can't breathe"
"Oh I'm being smuggled into another country illegally in the back of a semi, lol"
Do they not have suffocation deaths in Vietnam, or what?
A couple days ago I mathsperged despite being rarted and the numbers I came up with estimated inside an average semi trailer (something like 45 ft long) had only enough air for 39 people for less than 12 hours, not accounting for panic. Even if it wasn't airtight, the air that would have come in would have been negligible. Those people were fucked.

Not trying to sympathize with the victims, but the slant I’ve been hearing from the local Vietnamese circles is that among these were prospective students trying to get an education to try to pay off their parents’ debts. I quite frankly don’t know how extreme the situation is in those rural areas to warrant such extreme measures, but what I can say is watching this thread and the dumb Brits scramble around the ethnicity question is entertainingly exceptional.

Chinese are still mass immigrating to the US and, in fact, beat out latinos. Do you have to do this shit every thread, shill?

Jeez I wonder why; 1,433,783,686 as of Oct 27 2019. Generating 34% of global economic expansion from Jun 2018-Jun 2019. i.e 2 trillion USD.

Everything in US is up for sale. US is free real estate. Chinese are buying up your country because they can.

If China has eliminated extreme poverty, why is there still such a large amount of immigrants moving to the US instead of staying in China? This is prime cope, my friend.

Literally the fucking opposite. Because they're Chinese millionaires looking to invest abroad. They also' buy citizenship' in Europe and Australia then buy up private utilities. Little for private investors to invest into in China outside of their own businesses, since the government is building all infrastructure and expanding all services to the tune of $350 billion every year. Can't compete with that.

And no, large is relative for obvious fucking reasons noob. Once again: 1,433,783,686. 80% of these millionaires stay in China.

What the actual fuck are you talking about? Most Chinese immigrants nowadays are on HB-1 visas. Tons of Chinese immigrants are manual laborers, too. They're actually immigrating and staying in the US, they're not going back to China. It's students that come here from China that are the concern, but none of them have any intention of actually immigrating so it's another beast altogether.

Meanwhile, you do this shit every thread. Most people that see that they were actually Vietnamese just move on, especially considering that this incident has happened before with people that are actually from China. You have to shill.

Well by definition of China running a surplus with America they have to buy assets. It is not because they can, it's because the ccp refuses to adjust the Chinese economy to be geared more towards consumers (I.e. restrictions on imports - or why you see such large daigou markets from Chinese based overseas). Same thing happened in the 80s with japan and america. Didn't end up so well for japanese in the end, although they weren't trying as hard to launder their money
