Ocular trauma is weird, just minor damage to the eye is enough to actually kill people It's because of how much innervation there is to the eye and how the signals can overwhelm the brain. It's a weird, rare complication of ocular surgery, you can just be operating on someone's eye and for absolutely no reason, they will flatline. What happened to his eyes could very well have killed him, having nothing to do with actual blood loss.
