I think it being released early in the raid cycle is best if this is an actual gear method and not cosmetic/flex rewards. Maybe during X.05 patch a month into the X.0 as an example it'd work. So it won't interfere with people trying to do Savage early, but exists in case people get stuck and helps extends play time for people that want to find new things to do.Not so much catch-up gear but an alternative option for people who really want to sperg on that maximum efficiency gearing for raid prep. Say, the Savage content is still plenty doable with fully decked out weekly tomestone gear, but the Mythic+ gear could exist for the tryhards who really want to be all set for raiding, similar in intention to the people who opt for the slightly lower leveled pentameld gear – because the pentameld slots gives people a degree of stat optimization – thus, it can be just difficult enough to filter the braindead, no effort players but easily doable for people intending to raid. I hear that Floors 100-200 of the Deep Dungeons are basically like this by design as well, so maybe those can serve as an initial reference point for tuning.
Having it come out alongside the raids is definitely the intent, although I think that maybe the releases should be staggered such that you either have the new Mythic+ dungeon released a month or two before the big Savage tier release (to give the hardcore players time to get themselves totally ready), or maybe a month/2 weeks after the raid drops so people who are struggling have options that could help their progression.
Floors 101-200 PotD is just hard enough that it isn't braindead, though it can get really crazy with certain mob combinations (like the roaming chimeras or if you get a room with like 10 mobs all bunched up). PotD's last 100 floor's biggest challenge is you get 0 check points and the timer is not on your side as time out is a legitimate threat due to how long and slow you have to go through it if you want to be safe.
If it were effectively just an additional weekly lockout that you can safely ignore if you just want to do Savage or can just clear all of Savage anyway I don't think it matters. What makes Mythic+ a chore from what I've asked and parsed through is how rush heavy it is (which enables arguments if you go slow) to get anything worthwhile and you do it all the damn time.I would dislike it if the equivalent to mythic+ becomes part of gear progression.
Dungeon grind has only ever been popular with the people that love grinding. And I've never seen anyone doing mythic+ grind that actually looks happy
More or less a hypothetical hard FFXIV dungeon would be like any other weekly fight, as I envision it working within 14's design space, you prog it, do it once a week, then go back later if you want more gear or ignore it if you don't care. It is effectively a supplemental tuned to players that are not chimps that want to gear things faster for their main early on or their alts later on, but aren't hardcore grinders who just want some prog help and bits of cosmetics/glamour thrown in the mix if you want to spice it up.
