Nah, you guys just don't get it.
Lapis is supposed to represent Dobson's current emotional state: lost in an endless sea of negativity with small glimpses of light, of happiness, only filtering downwards in diluted amounts.
There is so much blank space because Dobson himself is overwhelmed by the amount of negativity and emptiness he drowns in daily. And like Lapis, he is bound to the darkest depths of the sea, tightly shacked in (more often than not) chains of his own creation that prevent him from going towards the light.
The absence of Lapis' hands is his frustration with own hands, tools that are supposed to create beautiful works of art instead produce slipshod efforts shunned by most of the public.
This isn't just a wallpaper. This is Dobson's cry for help. He needs somebody (Wu-senpai) to free him of his chains and show him the happiness that lies beyond the waters.
No but seriously, if I was a Patron I'd be pissed right now.
