Reasons why atheists become atheists

If god exists then how do you explain the people who have threads on Kiwi Farms?
...
Yeah, that's what I thought.
Checkmate, theists.

Because no real god would choose the Jews out of all the available groups as their "chosen people".
I always thought he chose the Jews as the chosen ones as a way to flex his power.

"I'm so powerful, that I'm going to take this bunch of whining backstabbing parasites and make them one of the most significant peoples on earth, because I'm God. Can Baal or Zeus do that. No they can't. Peace.". And then God dropped the mike and left the room.

I was gonna counter with the Greeks and Romans but lol

I'm not an atheist and I think atheism is nothing more than arrogant hubris and pseudo-intellectualism and I consider it a very indirect Abrahamic religion since it would not exist if Yahwehism didn't become the dominant religious tradition in the West.
And what of atheism in East Asian countries such as China and Japan?

I'm an egoist. I'm my own god.

Atheism is a lack of belief in deities, it's not really hard to understand why people like me don't take the religious mythology of various faiths seriously and thus do not believe in the deities in question. The bible(to use the most obvious example)has all sorts of absurd and ridiculous bullshit in it. The quran and the torah are also similarly absurd. Classical European polytheism is also absurd, and I say that as someone who genuinely likes that whole family of myths. Bhuddism, Shinto, Hinduism, various native religions? All are supported by absurd nonsense.

GOD IS AN ATHEIST

CHECKMATE, THEISTS

The reactionary fedora tipping type of atheist is a phenomenon limited mostly to the United States in my experience, and it seems to be in reaction to the particularly odious form of evangelical Christianity which exists in much of the States (particularly the Bible Belt). In Europe, Christianity is much more civil, and (probably as a consequence) so too are most atheists. Religion is very rarely brought up in conversation here, and it's generally considered rude to proselytize.

I don't think most people here really "become" atheists. I think it's more born of an indifference to religion as a concept, and an incredulity towards the objectivity of religious claims. Speaking for myself, there was never a point where I "became" an atheist; I've pretty much always been one, and there was never any social pressure for me to believe one way or another because like most people where I grew up, my parents are really just nominal Christians.

I'm inclined to think the strident nature of the "new breed" of American atheist comes directly from that of the evangelicals because a lot of those strident, annoying atheists either grew up in evangelical circles or themselves "de-converted" or however you'd word that from particularly noisy strains of American Christianity or what-have-you
