👓 TGWTG "Nostalgia Critic" / Doug Walker, Rob Walker, Mike Michaud, Mike Ellis, Holly Christine Brown, et al - The Incompetent Predator-Protecting Upper Management of Channel Awesome, Doug Still Not That Funny

Lindsay always objectified herself, something that sex-negative SJW feminist wouldn't approve. Even as "Nostalgia Chick" she made sure her boobs were in frame, front and center. Just to show you how much of Machiavellist she is. But unlike Hope, she knew where and how to play card dealt her by fate (minus Chez Apocalypse). As I sad, Hope is my least favorite producer from TGWTG (as a content creator, but also as a person).

Other TGWTG producers whose work I never liked during the first 4 years of the site are:

Farfromsubtle: good: costumes, first time I saw people superimposed on screen and seen them and what they are playing in same frame and real time; bad: lack of charisma, chemistry between members, even Fraser and his girlfriend Rebeca, also main guy Fraser doesn't know when is his birthday, fact that community took as a joke.

Suade: good: none; bad: everything, lacks charisma and started making videos about the subject he has very limited knowledge, made on the site because he made a NC joke video

E-Rod: good: has a steady schedule; bad: everything else, edggy tryhard with bad concept for the show, lacks any personality has his own tread

Ellsa: good: none; bad: obvious cronyism, tacked on site because she is friend of Linsey and little knowledge about content she made

Luke (Kinley) Mochrie: good: nothing; bad: everything else, has a famous father, appear in two Channel Awesome anniversary movies, instead of more deserving ppl

SadPanda: good: he made some music for producers; bad: everything else, also music he made wasn't good, lacks charisma and his SadPanda emo persona sucks

Bennet the Sage (for Anime Abandon, I liked Sage reviews): good: he is good at research, analyze, observation and deduction bad: I could tell he made AA based on NC success, had limited knowledge about the subject he makes videos about (in the beginning) and humor is not his strong side, never made a single joke that made me chuckle (and I have seen most of the episodes during TGWTG years and some after).

Channel Awesome seems to still be doing ok so far with over 9 million views a month.
which means that even AssblastedJose had outperformed them with his 12.951 million views.

Just to put the 9million views into relation:
Gaming channels:
Markiplier had 172.556 million views the last 30 days.
TotalGaming had 256.757 million views the last 30 days.
Aphmau had 334.076 million views the last 30 days.

Entertainment channels(Channel Awesome operates as such):
Vlad and Niki had 3.092 billion views the last 30 days.
Vlad y Nikita (spanish version of the above channel) had 24.085 million views
Even the Indonesian channel of Jessica Jane (249th of the top 250th Entertainment channels) outperformed them with 63.39 million views the last 30 days.

9 million views a month in the Entertainment category of YouTube is making you barely relevant. Given the fact that at least two thirds of YouTube viewers use some sort of ad-blocker, 9 million views are making you decent money but if that is sustainable for a company in the long run remains to be seen.
Also noteworty is that Channel Awfuls 9.083 million views is 9.6% less views than last month.

Its sad to know that Mean Girlsy style behavior doesn't end with high school like it should and even extends to nerdy internet bullshit.
The funny thing I've experienced is that the type of work you're doing affects it, too. When I did more physical stuff, there was almost none of it, but once I moved on to more "respectable" office work, it was like middle school again. To be fair, most of those places were mostly women, so that might explain it.

Doug think that by combining Nostalgia Critic and Demo Reel into one format is the "evolution" that Nostalgia Critic needs. He also thinks that by doing something that is similar or sequel to a review that made lots of views two years ago would make same amount today.
After To Boldly Flee, Doug was resolved to never do the Critic again. The character was dead & buried, as far as he was concerned. He then hired Malcolm & Rachel & tried to do Demo Reel. And it was a spectacular failure. My understanding for former producers is that Michaud came to him & basically said "You have to bring the Critic back." Doug initially refused, but eventually relented on certain conditions, such as Malcolm & Rachel be kept on & that he could write skits.

I was once told the review of "The Odd Life Of Timothy Green" contains a scene that was basically what happened between Michaud & Doug.

It wasn't necessarily that Doug wanted to combine Demo Reel & the Critic....he was basically given no choice. Site traffic was down after TBF & the death of the Critic & it was affecting the other producers site traffic as well. It was basically a reluctant compromise.

Someone on Lupa's thread talked about the stakes.

I know most of you know, but here's a thing. Mike is sitting on his ass playing XBox and using bullying tactics when someone does something that he doesn't approve. Its his way or the highway. Also he has probably took and spend most of money that TGWTG made, doesn't know how to run his own company, and encouraged producers to hate the competition, instead of making alliances and good terms with other companies that Channel Awesome was against, only Cinemasacre and some smaller vassal type sites. They were more opened for alliance after Critic returned, but it was too little, to late.

Doug is the face/main content creator for the company and a punching bag for every fuckup Mike does. Rob is also there, doing some on/off camera work, also taking the blames along with Doug, but frankly he deserves most of it. As someone who is running the company, Michaud should take more responsibility for his actions, not put Doug & Rob as a human shield, wile he is in the back, playing his XBox and only answering to Skype calls.

You destroy Doug and Rob, Michaud still owns Chanel Awesome and Nostalgia Critic. He can find easy replacement for them two and keep his reputation unharmed. You cut one or two heads of Hydra, more will grow, because Mike is the body who can regenerate missing heads, with little to no harm. He just needs to make public statement in case of Doug & Robs end in flames, where he distances himself from them, and he is good to go.

If CA fails as a company, sure Doug, Rob and Mike will be without a job, but Mike has Nostalgia Critic rights and possible swiss bank account for dark times ahead. Then again, he is bad with money, so it is possible that he will go down, but with CA brand and NC rights, and (possible) ownership of the studio where NC episodes are made, he can still sell those for some profit.

So in case of company failure Doug and Rob will get the shorter end of the sick, but the main bad guy Mike will get away, scot free. Brad would go on to make more Snob videos and movies (because he wasn't a moron to sell rights to his character to a moron who would also run his production company). Lupa would have some of her vengeance urges fulfilled along failed career as a e-entertainer, like Spoony if Trump isn't elected again. Guru Larry would have the last laugh and become ultimate victor.

I was once told the review of "The Odd Life Of Timothy Green" contains a scene that was basically what happened between Michaud & Doug.
It was actually in the finale of Demo Reel, where Doug talked with the Critic after contemplating bringing the character back. Towards the end, they go over ground rules of how the show's format would change. The whole point of it was a meta-narrative on Doug reviving the Nostalgia Critic.

Someone on Lupa's thread talked about the stakes.
Yeah, just to expand on some things. Mike (Michaud) is the CEO of the site. Its the fact that none is hiding, but at the same time he doesn't expose himself too much. He was in few of Doug's videos and even in the first TGWTG anniversary video. Outside of that, he doesn't show himself too much, doesn't go to Cons like MaGfest, missuses his power to get chiks, or be in some sexual or physical assault drama, at least he was never accused of such.

Even at the Mashable Awards 2010, Doug was the winery of Entrepreneur of the Year award, not Mike. Mikes face is on the cover of Entrepreneur. but so subtle, because Doug's is in the center making him again the face of the site, and most people assume he owns and runs the TGWTG/Channel Awesome.

Also its obvious he is and always was in it way over his head, but he masks it well by blaming everyone around him that its their fault not his, because he cant do everything by himself. So he needs his private time to play some Xbox and Call of Duty, because stress and hard work has left him seriously scared for life. Also, everyone should call him on the Skype, because he is too lazy needs his downtime to rest and reconsolidate from his running Chanel Awesome as a mature and responsible person. So the best thing for all employees, both new and old, is to understand sacrifice Mike makes on everyday basis and putting on the everyday line his blood, sweat and tears.

how much of that is Doug and how much of it is him playing to the audience?
It's a tradition at this point to review a Stephen King adaptation every Halloween. His review of The Langoliers really set the bar for what to expect from them; campy horror that feels more at home with the likes of Goosebumps or Tales From The Crypt. Since there were a lot of King adaptations, Doug had a whole buffet of content to pick from, and he knew his audience would eat it up.

A bit late, but I also still enjoy Nostalgia Critic. It’s good for what it is, Youtube comedy reviews of movies. Though I’m also not gonna try and convince anyone to like them either. I’ve learned it’s easier to just enjoy what you like rather than try to talk to other people about it.
Not that I fault anyone who dislikes the videos either, of course.

Here we go with the annual, "I'm better than (enter name of horror icon here)".

And I get it, he's playing a part, but how much of that is Doug and how much of it is him playing to the audience?
The best part is him constantly dogging on 'The Stand' for winning an Emmy or two. If you really pay attention, you can see him seethe quite frequently at the concept of it winning an Emmy as he knows he never will, even though an Emmy is fucking trash.
