Oh my god. This is the most delusional thing I have ever read. The whole POINT of art school is criticism, because that's how you learn. He may have been a better artist than the average high school student, but once he got to art school, so was everyone else.

It's like he was incapable of handling the idea of not being a prodigy any more. What he doesn't realize is that you can't just skate by on natural talent; you actually have to work and practice and improve. Natural talent's fine if you're just messing around, but if you want to make it in the real world, you need to actually get some skills.

So in spite of my opinions on Dobson, I'm going to point out... This doesn't change them that much. Like... Yes... It's dellusional but it's not an "Oh Dobson..." *Ba dum tssh* thing.

There are literally people like this in every field of education, I think. I still remember one of my first Philosophy classes when I went to University. I am just super excited to be encountering these new ideas and having things I suggest challenged then debated.

Then there's this one guy way up at the back of the class (Classes of 300ish and shit. First year and what not) makes a point. I can't even remember what it was we were discussing, but he made a point. The professor challenged it and proved why it was wrong.

He got super pissy. Started going on about how the professor was attacking him and shit. The professors face was the closest thing I have ever seen in the real world to -.- .

I don't think he came back to class. Least if he did, I never heard from him again. (Big class and all.)

Oh, I'm sure in High School he was the real witty guy and everyone told him he was so deep.

I know the same thing happens in sports all the fucking time. Big guy in high school finds himself surrounded by big guys.

Not necessarily with schools, but it's where the damned premise of a big fish in a small pond comes from. And it doesn't at all surprise me to learn that's what Dobson was.

He peaked in high school. This really isn't a surprise.

Honestly. I was wondering recently why I even follow him at this point. This journal reminded me. I'm not waiting for an improvement, I'm just watching as he gets more and more bitter and blames everything other than his own (Honestly. Just fill in the blank at this point. Inability to take criticism. Arrogance. Etc.) for his own failings.

I think I'll just start a bet with myself as to what age he'll be at when he starts openly lashing out at famous artists/cartoonists and trying to sue them for one asinine reason or another.

Yeah, I won't go into too much until it's proven to be a real journal.

However nearly every good artist out there will say 'till their face is as blue as Dobbear that "Natural talent" will only get you so far. Pros aren't born, they're made.

Agreed, and in my experience, Blockor's journals on DA are usually the real deal...

It's more that I didn't expect him to state it so clearly. Most people at least have the class to pretend that the issue is something else. Like they'll claim that it's "their opinion" or "their style," so it shouldn't be criticized. Or that the other people aren't qualified to criticize them because they haven't proved themselves. Or that the person criticizing them is being cruel about it. Or that they enjoy it, and what right do others have to dictate what makes them happy? This is just naked "I'm above criticism." And while I'm not surprised to learn that he thinks this way, I am surprised that he's willing to actually say it.

Which, to be fair, points to it possibly being a parody.

I guess part of the reason I reacted so strongly is because something something powerlevel, so I took it a little too personally.

Yup - You are correct.
His current DA journal is still his whacky rant about Age of Ultron.

Yep. Seems it's fake.

I think somebody should send it to Dobson so he can confirm its authenticity.

lol okay I'll admit it, it's a ruse. I was going to write a long winded post about why I suspected Dobson acts the way he does but I thought it'd be funnier to present it as one of his journal writings instead.

This is all your fault DeagleDad420. We can't believe in anything anymore (:_(

I hate it when it becomes legitimately hard to tell an assclown from a parody.:( Well played.

Seriously, I can't bring myself to be annoyed. Well done. You really nailed Dobson's "voice" there. It absolutely seemed like something he would write, the only suspicious part is that it was all so neatly collated.

The patreon shilling was a cute touch, too.

Just came across this screenshot of what appears to be a new Dobson journal. but for some reason doesn't appear anywhere on his DA page:

Oh poor Dobson, if you can only understand...

Seriously, this guy is having an ego-trip, and he's like around 30 years old something? If I was in his position, I would listen to the guy's advice and keep on drawing and learning new things on how to draw, but Tom? He has to point at something and blame it whenever something bad happens to him or pulling stupid stunts.

And saying students being paid by parents to go to school are the problems? Seriously, there are plenty of students who are still studying and have a decent job perhaps, and they still at home with their parents because they don't have enough money to own a house yet. Some had to take care of their parents. The reason these students are getting paid very much because they not only have talent, but they have the passion to learn new things. They didn't get a job for being "immature frat boys" Dobsy.

Assholes in the industries? Sure they exist, but this is what life have expected for you. It's a challenge. Talented artists with a passion to learn new things are respected more by the industry and they're more likely to be hired. They have the means to adapt new things in order to survive, even for me as an student in college, I have to study in the 3-D Program because I want to try 3-D Modeling, not only for the sake of getting a job. Mainly, I want to become a better artist by learning new things and from my mistakes. I want to know what I need to do to make better characters and story for my own series. I want to hear from my teachers what I did wrong and how to get better.

Dobson, you can't be an artist at birth and expect people to lick your boots, you have to learn new things to improve yourself and become a better and humble person. For a Skyrim fan yourself, have you not learn from what Paarthurnax said?

"What is better: to be born good, or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?"

(Sorry for the long text :P)

Nothing changed after art school because in the grown up world people actually expect you to be able to handle criticism like an actual fucking adult and not just notice you for being the cartoon kid. Its so pathetic that even though he was actually able to afford to go to art school, he ended up hating it because all the other artists there didn't realize that they were obviously talking to the greatest creative mind of this generation and actually had the nerve to give him helpful advice. I also love how he let out part of his inner nice guy by mentioning how much he hated all those spoiled rich guys in his class that were drinking and "disrespecting" girls by having (assumed) consentual sex with them, while he himself was a sheltered kid from a fairly wealthy family and also makes a point earlier in the same journal that he was dissapointed girls didnt swarm around him for his amazing cartoon skills.

Currently expecting some smug Dobbear art cosplaying a squid girl to go with the launch of Splatoon tomorrow.

Just a few remarks from me about this (seeing how I'm 10 pages late :heart-empty: ... sorry, was rather busy this week and couldn't catch up sooner):

The internet's most inane rambler dijo:
Soon I began repeating myself. I was having a harder time finding new shows that were decent. Our club turned into a MST3K rip-off. We began makin' fun of shows. It became so harsh that even when I tried to have a serious night they would find SOMETHING to mock. Soon after this I began to notice Anime-Fan stereotypes. All my friends were just geeks who loved a show for no good reason except for the fact that it was Anime.
Andrew Dobson, Anime connaisseur and manga-club-president extraordinaire.
Seriously, looking down on the tastes of others and pretending to be some sort of Anime guru when you're just into mainstream yourself, you should certainly consider shutting your piehole.
Mediocre plot? Some mild fanservice? A female protagonist you can fap to draw inflation porn of rally behind as a progressive male feminist? Sounds like something Dobberino'd eat right up!
Actually, it's one of my favorite anime from that time-period... It is very nicely done Sci-Fi show with a few twists (that don't feel awkward), so I'd be surprised if people actually made fun of it. Wouldn't be surprised if Dobson showed some shitty rom-com or something and now claims it was Iria cause that's actually decent and he can garner more sympathy for it.

Dob the slob dijo:
I started sitting outside while the shows ran. I watched less and less anime. Every new show looked the same to me. The increasing number of panty shots on 12 year olds and younger started to piss me off. I hired an assistant and taught him the ropes. Sadly I chose wrong, for he soon swept through and stole the anime club from right out beneath me, and did a poor job running it.
I'd rather suggest the guy couldn't stomach Dobson's "WOE IS ME! I HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING!"-bullshit that doesn't get shit done so he took over the club.

I stopped coming altogether. I just loathed Anime. My once favorite shows were now popular and horribly dubbed and aired out of order on various TV stations. The final blow came when Detective Boy Conan was introduced and remade into "Case Closed" which was an extremely half-assed version of what was a great detective series. I gave up on Anime.
What a fucking Hipster-clown.

Now I hate most anime. I can't stand to watch it anymore. However, there are a few shows which I still find entertainment from...

Anything by Rumiko Takahashi (save Inu Yasha), Anything by Hayao Miyazaki, Lupin III, Detective Boy Conan, The Slayers, Maho Tuski Tai (Magic Users Club), Mysterious Cities of Gold, and GallForce.
A) As already pointed out: It's Detective Conan.
B) It's "Slayers".
C) It's "Mahou Tsukai Tai" (I don't even know this show, but I read the title 12+ years ago in a magazine... and STILL I got it right. Quite some "favorite anime" material right there, huh)
D) "Gall Force" is an anime about a humanoid space-faring race that only consists of females. On of the big plot points of the show is one of the characters becoming pregnant and the crew not knowing what that is. So yeah, a convenient canvas for Dobslobs fetishised lipstick-lesbian-projections.

Those are the shows which I can stomach and watch without freaking out and complaining. I love these shows dearly. They are the only connection to me and my lost love of Anime. For this reason, I refuse to use them as a source of inflation-related ideas, save for Slayers, GallForce and Magic Users... (for they are just too PERFECT for inflation).
Yeah, Dobson got standards and morals, that's why he doesn't use these dear shows to make his silly fetish-art. Save for 50% of the shows he mentioned, of course. Cause, c'mon... lesbians in a spaceship that get inflated during hull breaches! Who could resist (aside from any human being that's not a fucking creep, that is

It was still better than Alex ze Pirate, SYAC, and that fucking bear.
I have a very strong feeling losing a finger is less of a pain than reading through SYAC, Alex ze Pirate and those bear-comics.

Boo hoo, Dobby hates social interaction. Give me some feels, bitches.

Whining about not being able to install stuff automatically.

God, fucking, DAMN it. He's really channeling the ghost of Chris-Chan past.
"I'm not the sad, pathetic mid-30s loser who's never amounted to anything! It's the people that point at me and laugh who are losers!"
Very mature way to deal with it. Really.

No one accused him of tracing Big Ben, they accused him of taking a photo and pasting it into the background. Which he admitted to doing because it's what he did.

But no, it's clearly people accusing him with no grounds.
His quarter-assed "I'm sorry people are upset about me" apology to Zelda and now this Chris-Chan style attempt to rewrite history...

He's gonna become a lesbian tomgirl tranny male soul thingamagic any time now, right?

I kinda miss the Dobson who posted SYAC comics on a regular basis instead of the Dobson bitching all day on Twitter, only occassionally drawing to shill his Patreon funding. It was still shit, but it was entertaining shit.
You got your wish in the latest drop.
