I'm happy to say that Halo 3's graphics get way better after a point, that early barracks level looks pretty lame, but as it opens up more it looks way better, it honestly looks pretty impressive for a game from 2007.

And I've forgotten so much about the game that it's almost like playing it for the first time, which is good, because when I played it in 2007 I actually played it on a CRT, which it's really meant to be played in HD.

Halo 3's campaign is easily the weakest of the original trilogy for me. Short, Brutes aren't as fun as Elites, Ark isn't really used to its full potential, Truth's whole personality was changed, and the cutscenes are far shorter and less impactful compared to Halo 2.

It's true, the Brutes are not as fun to fight as the Elites, it's probably my main issue with the game, otherwise it's pretty awesome though.

Halo 3's 'Cortana' is annoying on Legendary but not *that* hard if you take advantage of the cover that is there. For me the worst parts are tanker forms bum rushing.

Tankers are pussies, just use the energy sword or the brute shot's blade and they'll fold in a single hit.

No, it's the sniper forms that can go die in a fire. They're always in awkward positions pelting you to death with needles while you're dealing with a swarm of other Flood. Doesn't help that they can tank a full clip of carbine and battle rifle ammo before going down, how's that even fair?

Fire will instantly kill any Pure Flood, and there happen to be a good amount of Firebombs and Flamethrowers in Cortana (the first is near the Pelican you end the level at, and the second is tucked in a back hallway not too long before the engine room IIRC). You can just tap the trigger and delete any Pure Flood in front of you in an instant, and chuck Firebombs at any ranged forms that are too far away. Fire doesn't instantly kill normal Flood, but the plethora of swords through the level will keep you covered.

The real worst part of Cortana is all the fucking Gravemind/Cortana moments. You walk two feet and bam, time to walk slower than a glacier while you listen to Gravemind getting pissed and Cortana crying a lot. On the bright side, the Acrophobia skull is unaffected by the slowdown, so you can just zip right along and get through the level in minutes, useful if you're going after the Cortana terminal or the skull.

ranged forms are the biggest bastards in the entire series

use plasma rifles

The ranged Flood are one of the aspects of the game I've completely forgotten about.

It's actually bothers me a bit because usually I remember a game a little better even if it's been a while since I've last played it.

I don't know why people hated the halo 3 flood back then. I personally thought halo 3 did them the best and having them break apart when you meleed was genuinely fair. Everyone praises the hell out of Combat Evolved for being challenging but fair, but having flood carrying power weapons and shotguns that you can't see and multiplying them by a base of 2 to the third power is not just irritating, but sometimes impossible to take down unless you get lucky with grenades.

The fact the flood didn't make it into ODST or Reach firefight is a travesty

That's probably because at the time World At War had a really popular Nazi Zombies mode and there might've been some worry or issue Activision (being the cunts that they are) would have patented it and sued them for ripping off their mode. Also both games were kind of rushed so they probably had to reuse assets and they didn't add flood in.

With all the additions 343 has made I really think they should put in an option to just disable them after finishing the campaign.

Some people seem to think that 343 might add the flood to ODST firefight. It's apparently possible to mod the flood into firefight.

We might see 'em at some point, hard to say. The latest MCC dev blog went over some of the new stuff coming down the pipe soon:
  • ODST flight is going well, though apparently less people have been participating in this flight after being invited. Reminder to update your Insider profile if you want to be picked.
  • Season 3 (Recon) will have only 50 tiers as opposed to the 100 from seasons 1 and 2. Unlocks include the ODST characters for Firefight (with helmets on and off, and apparently including new variants too), weapon skins and visor colors for Halo 3, and nameplates. Like Halo 1, you can turn off the new skins/visors in your settings if you don't want to see them. Halo 2 Anniversary multiplayer armor will be more customizable, letting you swap between helmets, shoulders, and chest pieces freely.
  • Season 4 will add more customization options to Halo 3 and Reach, including more Elite customization in Reach, along with some more surprises they'll reveal later.
  • Custom game browser and PC file share development is coming along nicely, they hope to have them flighted soon. You'll also soon be able to choose which servers you wish to connect to.
  • Longer discussion of how they intend on handling KB+M/controller players when crossplay goes live. Short version: most playlists won't restrict matchmaking based on input, but competitive playlists will. You'll be able to see what inputs other players are using, and you can't change mid-match.
  • ODST Firefight will have considerably more customization options, taking inspiration from Reach's Firefight. ODST Firefight matchmaking will be limited to a single set so that you don't end up sucked into a two hour game that you weren't expecting. Custom games can last as long as you want still. They tried to get the Elephant to work in ODST Firefight, but alas, technical limitations.
  • ODST weapons are also going to be ported into Halo 3. The Brute Plasma Rifle will be similar to the Halo 2 version, as opposed to the ODST version which is identical to the regular Plasma Rifle. The Silenced SMG has similar damage output to the regular SMG, but recoils a little faster to offset the ability to aim down sights. The Automag has had its recoil from ODST removed, making it more of a precision killing weapon.
  • There will be more challenge variety in season 3, and quality-of-life improvements to the challenge system. You'll be able to view challenges from any game's pause menu, and challenge notifications will be color-coded blue or gold in-game. You can also disable notifications if you want.
  • Some talk about competitive Halo, as well as the status of bug fixes and development items.

View Model Adjustment for all games
  • Good progress, hope to have this in a flight soon
  • UI/UX Improvements around navigation, roster, customization, and many more areas of the game.
I hope that means we can fix the big ass weapon placement on Halo Reach. And also scale down the large hud too.

I hope they add a double or triple EXP day every week like EAfront 2 does, because the grind is really awful. I still haven't unlocked the armor parts that I wanted in the Halo Reach season.

Having a gungoose or variants of the warthog in Firefight would be nice but the Elephant? That thing is way too big.

  1. 343i staff were a bit disappointed in the lackluster involved population for the flight, hopefully they will more aggressively pursue fixes if anything is broken
  2. I really want more three-point challenges to crop up, come on 343i, let me get the last two waves of season two over and done with already
  3. Halo 3 may have additional accent customization, a screen shot shown different colored hardware status lights. I know two variants of armor may be making an appearance in Reach, I am certainly glad elites are getting customization options as I felt they were given the third wheel in the original release, and I hope that we get expanded slots in the Spartan customization so I can more perfectly recreate equipment configurations that were not possible in the original release.
  4. That's good. I hope this reinvigorates a sense of community that still is lacking in Halo these days. I will take advantage of customs browsers just to have a more laid back experience that the standard matchmaking can lack.
  5. Good to know there is proper governance of Controller and Keyboard-Mouse input, so I have less of an excuse to bitch about why I suck against cherry switch users.
  6. Halo Reach mechanics in ODST Firefight is for the best, in my opinion, is the most adherent to optimizing the experience through matchmaking since Reach's Firefight was tailor made for matchmaking.
  7. ODST weapons in Halo 3 will certainly improve the SWAT game type, stealth slayer would be fun as hell, if not borderline OP action sack tier nonsense
  8. Thank fuck this got annoying not being able to track my challenge progress through the pause menu, one of the biggest complaints about the MCC from me is the lack of features and integration in the pause menu
  9. Yes, fix Halo 3's stupidly random Battle Rifle, I want to enjoy the aforementioned game type a lot more without having some felonious ping discrepancy affect my shots

I don't know if it's a KB/M vs controller thing but I've noticed that in 4v4 or BTB I get descoped easily but my shots don't seem to hit the opponent. I really wanted to play the main H3 multiplayer modes but it's just not fun.
