For fucks sake Dobson.

When Dobson or anyone else says shit like this I always want to ask if they include me in that statement, as I am that elusive breed known as the female gamer. However, I only think of myself as a "gamer." My gender is unimportant.

So Dobson, am I a pervert too?

The answer is yes, but shame on you for assuming!

Dobson now has his sights on Squirrel Girl.

Holy shit, have comics really gotten this bad? The art. The writing. Everything about these two panels is terrible, and people expect to be paid for it.
The Big Two have gotten this bad, but really they've been falling down for a while.
Like pretty much everything else, now its an exercise in picking through the floods of shit to find the stuff worth paying for.
Which, on topic, Dobson never will be. Even his Pityeon hasn't managed to climb out of the pit of misery and self loathing he's carved over the years

I'm not sure any webcomic lolcow makes me cringe harder than Dobson. It's nauseating to watch him rattle his saber at any passing trendy cause, no matter how moldering or overstated. Worst of his crimes has to be this bullshit podcast deal. If you receive money for spec work from an inexplicably loyal fanbase and still have cause to whine over your obligation to some little podcast, you should be in therapy.

Or, if hard work builds character, Dobson has somehow fumbled through its exact opposite. Whatever it is Dobson does seems to degrade character. It can't just be pure lethargy, but it's something. He has no character about him.

It's not a mere fetish. It's more than that to him now. That, and he absolutely has to view his fap material as progressive in order to fit in. I'll never understand it.
I won't be surprised if he's bought into the "political lesbian" spiel: if feminism prevails, all women will become lesbians, and I can fap until the end of days.

You can have a successful comic one of two ways: you can be a good writer, or you can pander to Tumblr. Funny that this came out the same week as New Avengers #33, the climax of a story Jonathan Hickman started telling seven years ago.

I, uh, I actually like the Squirrel Girl comic. The art took me a while to warm up to, but Ryan North does a pretty good job writing. That entire argument Squirrel Girl is having with Galactus, though? That's being played for laughs. It's absurd for her to argue with an ancient entity that eats entire fucking planets over correct pronoun usage. She is trying to stop him from eating earth but she still debates this. That is, as they say, the joke.

It kind of reminds me of when Portal had a joke concerning overly politically correct corporate language in some supplemental material and idiots on Tumblr took it at face value and praised Valve for being so progressive as to include this gender-neutral language, without realizing it was done with tongue firmly in cheek.

Dobson, of course, doesn't get it because he doesn't fucking read comics and only looks at isolated panels to judge the entire medium like the fake geek boy that he is.

I don't think pandering to Tumblr is much of a recipe for success. Tumblrinas just aren't that big a slice of the comic buying public.

It's true that some writers are clearly on board with the whole SJW agenda, but I think it's genuine belief, not pandering. Not sure if that's worse or better.

I don't think this is a Tumblr thing. It's a webcomic thing and this would be great art in a webcomic. If it's popular online, they want artists who can grab a webcomic base.

Pandering to tumblr might get you momentary interest, but it will get you a vile and toxic fandom that will drive away people who aren't disgusting and repulsive, and then will viciously turn on you for no reason at all.

The big two will generally be willing to eat losses on a book for a while if it's attracting a demographic outside of normal comics readers. It usually doesn't last forever because they expect that to gradually translate into sales, but most runs are less than two dozen issues these days anyway and it can give the most tepid of runs (like Kieron Gillen's Young Avengers) more time than the numbers warrant.
