Steven Universe Fandom

There are degrees. Most casual fans don't participate in the side of fandoms that include fanfiction, art, shipping, posting fan theories, buying tons of merch, etc. They're a part of the fandom, true, but they're not in the core of the fandom, which is where the people we talk about in this thread are.

Animaniacs online fandom in the 90's was pretty shit.
And there's even people in the core fandom that aren't complete and total asshats about it. It just so happens that the asshats are the loudest.

I don't understand fandoms. Why is it always the immature, childish crap that attracts fanbrats on Tumblr to analyze every bit of it than actual good, solid entertainment?

Case in point, Teen Books, mediocre Disney films, and Anime (Pokemon, Naruto).

Not SU, right? I think it's pretty awesome.

People acting like the Steven Universe fandom is so toxic when most of the major drama has been backlash against whitewashing, transphobia and erasing fat characters. Children, please. I’ve been in seriously toxic fandoms. This is not one of them.

Riiight...and that Uncle Granpa drama neeeeever happened and the gross entitlement and the constant gender drama doesn't exist.
Never trust someone who downplays the negative things in a fandom. Either this person is incredible dense or a fucking liar.

I swear, every time I go into the Steven Universe tag I see people complaining about how people are drawing characters. There's one girl in particular who goes on a crusade because she is personally offended by fanart of Opal and Pearl with small noses.

For all these complaints I see in the tag, I've only ever seen fat characters drawn thin about twice, and really nothing else.

Because they're immature and childish?

I'm sure somewhere there is some whacko with a dakimakura of Gus Fring, but you generally don't see this idiocy with stuff like, say, Breaking Bad. As weird as they get is some cosplay.

However, there is spergish hyper-analysis of even stuff like this. I know, I've done it, and you'd find a lot of that kind of thing on TWoP back when it existed.

@AnOminous Shows/movies that don't have "nerdy" concepts (magic, aliens, Japan-itis) and are critically acclaimed generally don't have overly stupid fandoms. I don't see BB fans whining on Tumblr or analyzing trivial things at the rate that Bronies, Disney fanatics, and other cartoon fandoms do.

Perhaps there is similar shit like that goes on in those fandoms but the amount of shit that you hear from all these cartoon fandoms is just much more prevalent and weird enough to get noticed.

I can honestly say that I've never seen Amethyst being drawn as thin. I've seen a lot of people complaining about artists drawing her thin, though. I just haven't seen any of it personally. Then again, these people will nitpick about the smallest things... I didn't know people complained about nose sizes, of all things...

TES fans aren't that overly stupid last time I checked. sure we have lore snobs or people who are REALLY dedicated to lore but that's better than having sperging tumblrites.

On tumblr, one instance = all the time.

You'd be surprised. I recently found Bones drama. Yes, fucking Bones the show on Fox. There are entire sites and comment sections with trolls and people arguing in autistic fashion over characters and how an actor is totally trivializing another character's action and my brain started leaking out of my ears a little bit.

They just don't get on tumblr, but I'm now convinced every show as a spergy online fan base, it's just a matter of finding them.
