Trump Derangement Syndrome - Orange man bad. Read the OP! (ᴛʜɪs ᴛʜʀᴇᴀᴅ ɪs ʟɪᴋᴇ ᴋɪᴡɪ ғᴀʀᴍs ʀᴇᴠɪᴇᴡs ɴᴏᴡ) 🗿🗿🗿🗿

Edit: Fucking look at this map. If I were a coastal-city liberal, I would think long and hard about why the entire country is red except for the urban areas and maybe think that my financial privilege has prevented me from seeing eye to eye with my a person from a place that is under duress from the bullshit that I don't have to suffer with due to the Democratic Party's ignorance of the American heartland. It would really make me think that maybe I'm wrong when it comes to a lot of issues that don't necessarily affect me, but affect people in other regions of the country not like mine and make me more prone to think about what's good for the productive part of the US more.
Or they just blame it all on gerrymandering (easier in rural areas because people actually own their homes and don't move as often) and think it's because 51% of them are dumb rubes who get their entire worldview engineered for them by the Koch's and Murdoch.

So much flat out wrong here.
The sad thing is that many Red states are becoming blue because of the mass exodus of Dems leaving high tax blue states (California, New York, New Jersey) and moving to low tax Red states.
The ones leaving those high tax states are mostly Republicans. The Democrats still haven't made the connection between Dem rule and high taxes. Also, they are too hoity toity to move to those 'backwards' red states full of deplorables. They'd rather live in places with 'culture' like New York, even if that means they're living in a tiny room paying $2000/month.

As I mentioned before in a post somewhere upthread, non native Texans broke for Cruz. Native Texans went for Beto. So ironically it was ex-Californians helping keep Texas red. Orange County used to be one of the reddest parts of California. Not anymore. Why? Because they all left. 74% of Californians on the right want to leave that shit hole. Probably 0% of Californians on the left do.

Once the blue flow starts, it floods Red states and they turn blue. New Hampshire is a perfect example of the one Red New England state going blue around the time Obama took office.
You're just making shit up. Did you actually verify what you wrote before saying it? New Hampshire is not a red state. Period. It's just not. More moderate and libertarian than the rest of New England, yes. But it's not red. New Hampshire has only gone red once since 1988 and that was in 2000. So that's completely wrong. And Trump will probably win it in 2020 after coming close in 2016.

I could seriously keep posting examples like these dating all the way back to the 1900s for hours. People really don't understand just how long this Climate Panic thing has been going on. There's a reason that I pay absolutely no attention to it anymore.

Heck, try it out for yourself: Go to Newspapers.com and search for things like "Global Cooling" and "Climate Change" and see just how far back this goes into the archives. It's actually a little frightening to watch these headlines dial back for way, way longer than you'd expect them to.
I've seen more sane defenders of this stuff (like Potholer54) blaming the media for hyping up outlier studies to sell newspapers & people like Al Gore going along with it.

Curious question for you all, what do you make of California's new governor?

Like all the other ones before, intent on pushing his agenda regardless of what the people say. California voters rejected rent control by a huge margin: 70 to 30, but much like California politicians before, promptly said "Fuck that, people don't know what's good them, we do." and worked to implement via legislation what the people said they don't want.

The problem is Commiefornia state senate is based on population, one per million or something like that, so its essentially rule by LA & SF. If you ever wonder why Commiefornia is so gun-ho about trying to shut down the electoral college, that's why. If any sort of 'Republic' model was ever implemented in state politics, the liberal faggots in SF & LA wouldn't be able to dictate policy to the hayseeds, at least as easily.

Why the distain for Romney? He seems like your typical GOP man. A man that's half black is despised more than a full pledged white man.
To be fair a President is always going to be a more-divisive figure than a Congressman. I'm sure that if Romney had actually won the election the situation would be completely inverted and nobody would be crabbing about Obama because nobody would really have any idea who he even is.

What are you talking about? Virginia flipped permantly blue in the last two decades and is being called the California of the east now.

Once the blue flow starts, it floods Red states and they turn blue. New Hampshire is a perfect example of the one Red New England state going blue around the time Obama took office. Dems from MA, NY and other high tax states moved to "No Income & No Sales Tax" NH and brought their political beliefs with them. The next thing you know, the state legislature turned blue and guess what they wanted to do? Create a sales tax.

The moral of the story is, if dems leave high tax blue states and move to low tax Red states, they will want to increase or create new taxes in formerly low or no tax states.
Evergreen news story.

You're attributing two decades of political change in Virginia to people moving from out of state? Not an increase of the number of people going to college and being indoctrinated into liberalism? Or the bloated federal government creating thousands of unnecessary positions, the people in which are not going to vote themselves out of? Or the mainstream media successfully convincing large numbers of people Republicans are evil?

You're going to attribute it mostly to former residents of California, New York and New Jersey? Yeah, that seems a little simplistic (and unconvincing).

Mormons are by and large good people and the only whites who breed like rabbits.... but they vote how their church leaders tell them to vote. If this escalated and Romney ran a 3rd party it would likely deny Trump the state

The Church hasn't advocated for candidates since I think Wilford Woodruff because it has never been the Church's business to tell its members who to vote for (even though the Mormons and Utah had been under scrutiny for years, so they were feeling threatened at the time). Leaders encourage voting, but word it along the lines of "it's a God-given right, vote your conscious" and it gets messy since there are Mormons in any given party, but a good portion of them are generally conservative and will stick by the "R". Mitt has only stuck around simply because of the Mormon population still giving him a chance, but it's funny because he's not even a Utah native.

If it helps, members who live outside of Utah don't like Utah Mormons who aren't the prophet and apostles, and the LDS population doesn't really have the majority in Salt Lake City anymore, which has been blue for at least a decade now (that I can see, possibly longer). Honestly, if Trump keeps all of the state electorates from 2016 except for Utah's measly 6, he'd still have 300. Let Utah be Utah, it's basically Arizona's top hat and might end up just as purple.

Well, let's see. My sensibilities are far more liberal than conservative, but pretend you're a Republican politician of means and influence for a minute:

Donald Trump got elected despite statements like "they're not sending their best", calling Megyn Kelly a "bimbo" and hitting her with a pretty obvious PMS jab, knocking Ted Cruz's wife's looks compared to Melania's, and of course, "GRAB 'EM BY THE PUSSY."

Mitt Romney?

Mitt Romney couldn't get past this.

Also, we don't say it often, but Americans think Mormons are fucking weird. We purse our lips and nod politely at them but by God we don't want them sitting in the White House. They're somewhere on the spectrum between creepy and culty, and ironically, both extremes have the same chance of being elected.

Also also ALSO -- I've had a few drinks BTW -- Romney fails the Daddy Kink test. Hard. Like, Cruz (with and only with the beard) could definitely get it, but Romney would be like "oh, um, it's really cold in here, give me a second baby..." and you're just like, ugh, where's a cheap chard when I need it.

Mitt Romney couldn't get past this.

And now he'll never get past this.

Trump will never let Romney forget that he came crawling to Trump begging and pleading for a place in his admin and got laughed at and sent on his way. Which is probably the reason Romney's doing this, really, it's about his stung pride for being told he was neither needed or wanted and refused a place at the big boys' table.

In hindsight he should of made him ambassador to iceland or something to keep him busy. But whatever

Part of Virginia going blue is due to people from Washington DC (and to a lesser extent, Baltimore and Philly) moving into Virginia, but also keep in mind that while the state has been voting blue in presidential elections, Virginia is more of a reddish purple state overall.

You know how Upstate New York is purple, but is hard blue solely because of NYC? Or how Portland holds the rest of the state of Oregon hostage? Virginia sort of has a similar "Manhattan Effect" with Washington DC's suburbs and the capital in Richmond, which has always heavily trended Democrat and is also a very black city. It doesn't help that the only "deep red" part of Virginia with any substantial voter population is the Lynchburg area.

The western half of the state is also fairly conservative but is also very thinly populated. The two main populated areas in the western parts of Virginia are Blacksburg (which is a lefty college town) and the moderate purple area in and around the Roanoke Valley. It's a swing area that can make or break a state-level election and the moderate wings of both major parties tend to be the ones who do best in that area. The city proper is more Democrat while the county is more Republican, but they both are represented by more moderate wings of the party such as vaguely "Blue Dog" black Democrats and corporate Romney-tier Republicans.

Oddly enough, the region of Virginia that is the most socially conservative are the coal counties in the southwestern part of the state, right in the heart of Appalachia. Those counties used to be purple areas that would go for "Blue Dog" Dems like Jim Webb or current West Virginia senator Joe Manchin, but Obama's statements against the coal industry (during a massive downturn in the coal industry no less) and the declining influence of the UMWA basically handed those areas to the GOP.

See, I think Virginia is still purple for now. It's heading blue, but the outcome of national elections in Virginia tend to be narrow on either end. It wasn't that long ago that the state had a Republican governor (a very corrupt one, but still) and state-level politics are further compounded by a state law that says that governors can only serve a single term, so the party politics are intensified as a result.

Virginia has a strange history of voting blue in a presidential election but sending the saddest republicans that they can find to Congress.

Its really a toss up. I feel like if Trump barnstormed and put money in it the state it could flip. But its never rally a GOP priority and not part of the southern strategy

There's nothing strange about Virgina being the suburbs of the DC swamp. You may as well ask why New Jersey is a mafia run shithole.

As a central VA native and former long-term northern VA resident, it's definitely a mix of what you said along with people moving from other places. Not sure what's so silly or unbelievable about that. I've read that "most Northern Virginians were born elsewhere, with nearly half of them either from a different country or born to immigrant parents."

Lots of govvies vote Republican as well. This is particularly common within the DoD.
