Rockstar Releases Their Own PC Game Launcher - Because why not at this point?

Here's the thing about stores, and product producers; let's assume people want your product, you want to make that product as accessible to your customers as possible. Not doing so is just stupid.
I had this analogy. Imagine going to a convenience store and all your snacks were there in one place. Chips, cookies, juices, gum, what have you. Then one snack brands decides to segregate their products to their own store. You want mini powdered donuts now? Go to this special branded store, but they only sell THEIR few stuff.

Now imagine MS or Sony only selling their respective brands in their own stores, nowhere else. Want a PS4, go to a Sony store. Want an Xbox? Go to the Microsoft Store. On top of that, they could control their prices and stock as they see fit. Because they're the only ones that sell a want.

Are you really going to waste time going somewhere for something that was once sold wholesale, now sectioned off in its own place? That's anti-consumer.

I at least understand companies that release a lot of games each year having separate launchers (EA, Ubisoft, Microsoft especially because of Windows) but Rockstar has only released 2 this gen, 1.5 actually since GTA5 was late last gen. What's the point?

Will we get GTA London?
No. Rockstar removed the classic top-down GTAs ages ago because they didn't work on modern systems, and the modern Rockstar is a shit company of fuckwits.

Prediction for the future: Rockstar will become the next Bethesda. They took the player side during the mod-debacle with 2K, but they're going to turn in the coming years. They already turned a lot with GTAV's utterly shit online mode with single player taking slight hits here and there. It's going to become one of those padded social interaction companies like every other big name that started out as rebellious.

God damn, Rockstar is so insecure about PC releases. What the hell is their deal?
The pc master race reaction to gtaiv soured them on the player base a shitload. They were super proud of their work on the game's pc port, they thought they did a spectacular job optimising it for the low end while also giving the top end as much power as possible. Buuuut it also had gfwl and that weird social club launcher thing, and it didn't have death bus style 64 player mp, so they copped some shit. Bully came out on pc around then too, and it was an atrocious port so they copped a ton of shit for that. Anyway several years passed and they released la noire and Max Payne 3 - once again going all out (in their opinion) and yet they copped a ton of shit again. Meanwhile console users expect nothing and are happy to get it

I know steam is shit and all, but fucking hell, ANOTHER launcher? And a free copy of GTA san andreas to sweeten the deal... Yeah, its not like everyone and their grandmother already have a copy of it on their steam library.

It was capped at 30 FPS too.

Fuck you. I have motherfucking four launchers for PC games now. EA Origin sucks, Ubisoft's UPlay sucks and Epic sucks, and Steam sucks but has a billion games. I will burn in hell before I get another fucking launcher.

I was going to say "Then I can pirate RDR." but then I realized that the launcher will probably have always online DRM. Not that it helped Epic much.
There would be a MASSIVE backlash to always online RDR since the console game wasn't. And it would cause a massive push to remove it by any costs.

To put it into perspective people have tried to remake RDR in GTA5 in the past which resulted in Rockstar C&Ding it. When you get to that extent they'll do anything for it.
what games do they have to offer? Red dead revolver? Bully? lol.
Red Dead Revolver was never ported to PC

didn't they always have their social club crap? and considering the stupid amounts of money they make with their online mode ofc they're not gonna share with anyone.
only somewhat positive thing is it shits all over epic shills claiming rdr2 would be coming to epic laucher when that pos "store" doesn't even support DLCs.

They were super proud of their work on the game's pc port, they thought they did a spectacular job optimising it for the low end
it ran like fucking ass while looking like shit, that's why everybody shat on it. TWO of the worst fucking launchers didn't help either. I think they didn't even patch out gfwl yet, considering even capcom spend money on it for lost planet 3 ofc most masterrace people tell them to fuck off.

Sooo...Wait, technically they already had a launcher which was that Social Club thingy. Which, they just turned into a full fledged launcher/store, which technically some people already probably have mostly because games like GTA4-5 and Max Payne 3 require to have a Social Club account ontop of a steam account (unless someone got 'em via the social club, thus cutting out the need for steam). So, am I like missing something here?

Will we get GTA London?
It sure as shit should still be free. I remember Rockstar making 1969 free to download like 15 years ago. At this point you could probably run it at full frame rate with Wine on top of Windows Subsystem for Linux even if it won't run in Windows 10.
  1. GTA 2
  2. Vice City (on the strength of the soundtrack)
  3. San Andreas
  4. GTA
  5. London '69
  6. GTA 3
  7. whatever the new shit is
Is Steam and GOG not enough for PC already!?
They were until Epic ruined everything. Still their fault!

Good job, Rockstar.

Gamers are angry about not being able to follow how to mod Grand Theft Auto San Andreas guides on PC through the Rockstar Games Launcher.

The Rockstar Games Launcher was released yesterday and Grand Theft Auto San Andreas is a freebie for those devoted enough to download the platform. Unfortunately, the biggest issue with the launcher is that it doesn't support mods; a defect which has infuriated the publisher/developer's fanbase.

Rockstar's Game Launcher is a neat package which keeps all of your Grand Theft Autos and other Rockstar titles together in one place. While that sounds useful as hell, the bad news is that it was plagued by an ungodly amount of errors yesterday that prevented people from being able to connect.

A more fundamental issue, however, is that the service doesn't provide mod support. This has resulted in an angry onslaught of tweets from a community who are justly disappointed in not being able to tweak the game however they want.

How to mod Grand Theft Auto San Andreas on PC
You cannot mod Grand Theft Auto San Andreas on PC through the Rockstar Games Launcher.

Venture Beat is one of many outlets to report that the "barren" launcher doesn't feature mod support, and this massive defect has been reported on Twitter also by a colossal amount of upset gamers.

As mentioned by Twitter user @TendoRad, you cannot mod the game via the same process on Steam by downgrading it and attempting to launch through SAMP.

Okay, so through this I've determined:

This doesn't allow mods. At all. None whatsoever. If you downgrade the game and attempt to launch something like say, SAMP, for example; the downgraded exe will just have you go to the launcher instead. So don't do this hoping for mods.

This has hugely disappointed the PC gaming army as one of the best aspects of playing on computers is being able to customise games through a wide variety of mods that range from serious to sheer buffoonery.

No Steam, no buy.
Rockstar’s launcher checks for modified game files, therefore rendering mods useless. This goes for any GTA game as well.

Fans react to Rockstar Games Launcher no mod support
The PC community is understandably disappointed that the Rockstar Games Launcher doesn't feature mod support.

Granted, the inability to do so isn't all that surprising, but players are still furious nonetheless.

Over on Reddit, there have been discussions about the lack of mod support. One post says it's impossible to play with mods at the moment as the launcher verifies the integrity of files, and then redownloads the missing files that the mods have removed or altered.

Another comment on one of the many posts about the Rockstar Games Launcher notes that the free GTA San Andreas is the worst version thanks to its inability to mod, along with its inferior textures and missing songs.
Over on Twitter the dismay has been echoed with people furious that they cannot play any of the GTA titles with mods.

you can no longer play with people who have the steam version of the game if you're on the rockstar launcher and the game outright refuses to launch with no connection

this update also kills mods in the game INCLUDING singleplayer

The good thing about the Rockstar Games Launcher is that it means Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC appears inevitable, but the horrible news is the uproar surroundings its lack of mod support.

If you haven't already bought GTA San Andreas on PC, I'd highly recommend purchasing it on Steam rather than the Rockstar Games Launcher.
