Rockstar Releases Their Own PC Game Launcher - Because why not at this point?

Flooding the market is always a good thing, just look at internet movie streaming services.

I wonder if Steam will eventually become the Netflix of digital platforms. All the publishers jump ship to release their own launchers, leaving Steam with nothing but indie titles and hentai games. And then what? Valve makes games again?

then I'll do the same thing I do with netflix shit, Pirate it.

i've been playing a lot of free san andreas

i had to install an addon which fixes the mouse controls not working problem

whenever i use the pause button the screen goes black and there's no way exiting out so i had to shut down my pc a couple of times

still a fun game tho

R* trojan'd the requirement for this fucking launcher into a modified executable for gtav which denies you the ability to play singleplayer offline.

The version of gtasa provided is easily identifiable as the shit mobile port reported to pc, not 2.0 as someone else mentioned. 1.01 was the only patch R* released that didnt cut content or downgrade the graphics. 1.2-2.0 were graphically inferior but servicable pc patches that everyone hated, minus hot coffee of course. (this "free" version is accccccctually the infamous 2.bleh with further dumbed down graphics, half of the soundtrack removed, while having a slew of other issues) so while you can downgrade their offering to 1.0, its a shit tradeoff for a gb of your hd space when you can just dl the abandoned 1.01 modable version bundled with SAMP pretty much anywhere.

In retrospect, ig it was kinda fishy that they had patched gtav recently to run scripts without a modlauncher such as openiv. we should have been expecting the other shoe to drop. The shiniest spot on this glazed turd is that we *may* get a rdr2 pc port, which to many of us is just a means to force us to buy the same game twice.
I wouldnt be surprised in the least if they bundled SA with the launcher just to bolster their "products downloaded/sold" in the last 1/4 of the year

They are giving away the worst version of one of the most pirated games ever after throwing a trojan on your pc that prevents you from playing GTAV in offline/singleplayer mode.

Última edición:
Have you ever been able to play GTA V offline though? I lost internet access for 3 weeks 2 years ago and when I tried to launch the game, which I had played only the night before, in offline mode it refused because...it couldn't phone home.

I uninstalled it pretty soon after and I've been pissed that I was over the limit for a refund ever since.

God damn, Rockstar is so insecure about PC releases. What the hell is their deal?

It irritates the shit out of me that they play games with PC releases instead of just doing what every other third party publisher does and release their shit on PC at the same time or around the same time as consoles, no muss, no fuss.

There's zero excuse for what Rockstar does when it comes to PC.

At the very least I hope we finally get RDR2 on PC soon, it's been almost a year.

They have totally no excuses at this point, when even Japanese devs like SEGA, who traditionally shun the PC, are regularly releasing PC ports on release date or shortly after. Varying levels of competency, but I haven't seen any as intentionally spiteful as Rockstar's ports.

prior to this bullshit you had to disable your network adapter via device manager in order to play offline for more than a week without the gay social club requiring you to logon JUST TO PLAY OFFLINE.

In regards to gtav singleplayer rockstar has gone out of their way to be EA levels of hostile towards the consumer. the only way to make this shit hurt for them is to refuse to buy any of their products new. (not that that would matter as they obviously see their pc platform consumers to be irrelevant).

tl;dr we can go fuck ourselves

Earlier in the thread I mentioned hoping this launcher would let me play TTDISA, which I had never managed to get working with the steam version - a hope that has been thoroughly dashed now because this launcher is a fucking worthless bag of dicks. It really got me jonesing for that sweet thug life though, so I put some actual effort into trying TTDISA again, and I got it up and running, hooray!

Anyway I thought I would lay out the steps to get it going in case anyone else was interested, and in case I ever want to do it again after having a stroke or getting amnesia. So here's what you do.

First grab the SA Downgrader. The SA Downgrader is an outstanding tool which not only downgrades your exe, restoring hot coffee and all the songs with expired licenses, but also includes the ability to download and install a shitload of other mods and tools that are basically necessary if you don't want to play a butchered piece of shit, like mod loader, asi loader, silent patch, widescreen fix, ginput 2dfx and the mp mods. Just download it, update it (I can't find a direct link to 1.4 but I didn't really look since it updates itself without drama) and run it, then point it to your SA directory, select the mods you want (absolutely get asi, silent and mod loader, and ginput if you want to play with a controller - the rest is up to you) and then hit downgrade. It will give you the option to back up your game files, I would suggest doing so unless you want to do it manually.

Once you have downgraded you will already have an infinitely better version of the game than the vanilla steam version, I would suggest doing this even if you don't want TTDISA. But we are going to continue by next downloading TTDISA. You only need to grab the 1.5.7 file and the hot fix from that post, as everything else essential was grabbed with the Downgrader. I couldn't be assed with the icons, but grab them too if you want.

You will then also need to grab img factory to get it working. Now img factory has been updated quite a bit, as it's used to mod a whole bunch of r* games, but (entirely because I am retarded I'm sure) the reason I have never gotten TTDISA to work in the past is because I have been trying to do it with the latest version of img factory, so for this I am going to suggest you just grab the 1.2 version and ignore it when it tries to update.

Now all you have to do is follow the TTDISA readme, but I said I would walk through the process so that's what I'm doing. Extract the files somewhere, move the files from the TTDISA 1. Mod folder to your SA mod loader folder (created by the Downgrader), open up cuts.img from your SA anim folder in img factory, press the blue import button, select everything in the TTDISA 2. Cutscene files folder and when it asks, choose replace. Then make sure you hit rebuild, ignore the pop up about versions and boom! You now have things to do in san andreas! Lots of things! You'll have to start a new game, and you should notice the changes immediately. Play through to the tagging up turf mission, and if it runs and doesn't crash on you, you definitely have TTDISA working.
