Okay now that they own Fox and Marvel and everything they're no longer required to make Fantastic Four movies, right? So why in the actual fuck are they trying to make a Fantastic Four movie?

Because the MCU thinks they can be the ones that finally "get it right."

Honestly, if Marvel Studios had acquired the Fantastic Four in, let's say, 2012, I would have been really excited. After Endgame and after seeing the dumb shit that Marvel has planned in Phase 4, though? Not nearly as excited, and I'm expecting some announcement regarding the movie that will make me cringe.

I swear, if the MCU fucks up The Fantastic Four even just a little bit, there is no excuse. If there's going to be yet another attempt, it had better be perfect at this point. My heart can't take another massacred version of Doctor Doom (one of the best comic book villains ever).

Because if they do it, they'll get access to Doctor Doom, Galactus, Annihilus..etc, hell, they can even properly re-do the Inhumans if they really want to (I'd actually prefer this to the Eternals, which honestly sounds boring as fuck).

The Fantastic Four franchise has a ton of untapped potential for characters that can potentially fuel 2 phases on their own. This is major upside for what is a very low-risk movie imo.

To be honest, they probably will, and without much effort either, all the Fantastic Four movies have been utter trash.

A lot of the pre-MCU Marvel movies were honestly terrible, like even when Sony/Fox somehow managed to make good movies with what were THE biggest Marvel properties, they immediately proceeded to fuck shit up by being the retarded companies they are (Sony by messing with Raimi in favor of more toy sales, Fox by doing whatever the fuck they thought they were doing in the X-verse).

Is there a specific legal reason they need to add the Fantastic Four to get their villains? Because the Fantastic Four themselves kinda fucking suck.

Not really legal, more on the creative side imo.

A lot of ppl talked up the X-Men and how they will change the MCU, but Fantastic Four is a far more fertile franchise to play with imo. It's an easily recognizable property that opens up a lot of weirdness that wasn't really the Avengers' thing.

Also, you lose the F4 themselves, you really lose out on a lot of what makes Doctor Doom unique without mentioning his relationship to Reed, you also lose out on the Thing/Hulk rivalry etc. All this is all good content to spoon-feed ppl while they stuff themselves full of expensive concessions.

I think the Fantastic Four have a place in the Marvel Universe, but they seem to have mixed success carrying a work on their own.

I think somebody said it a while back and I agree that the best way to do the fantastic four would be make them a period piece, to introduce the other side characters. I can't really see them being the centerpiece of an entire phase of MCU movies like iron Man and Captain America were.

What they could be though are the new elder statesman of the superhero world, passing the torch off to the new kids in the battle against insert cosmic threat here.

I really hope they don't fuck up silver surfer. But they will.

I think they can carry their own movies, but they need to be handled correctly, because there's a lot of Kirby weirdness there, which has always proven tricky to handle.

For me it feels like everything ended after the original X-Men and Spider-Man movies were over. I don't know, everything that comes after the Wolverine Origins movie (with maybe the exception of Logan) just feels like one and the same. They're not really that bad, they're just... the same.
When someone at work asks if I've seen Marvel Movie X I honestly can't tell if I have, because I either confuse them with each other or feel like I've watched it already when someone takes me to the cinema.

The old movies had that special something where they couldn't take themselves too serious, and I think that's missing. Now it just feels like you're consuming something that you've been pushed into watching.

Seems I'm still living rent free in a bunch of whiny SJW fanboys head's when I insult these movies. Tbh I think SJWs and MCU fanboys are synonymous at this point. They always seem to have a massive overlap.
Anyway, the Disney+ stuff sounds like poop, and it's all helmed by feminist nutjobs, oh boy these are gonna suck. Yet someone will still insist we are being overly negative or stupid for even doubting these bland corporate mandated pieces of trash.

I don't really care about what was being discussed just wanted to live in your head rent free for a little while longer, considering the MCU is apparently living inside my head rent free because I actually want legitimately good movies not helmed by people who seek to brainwash men and women.

The key is setting up Reed Richards himself and that's going to be brutal. You'll need another actor who can play "rich, smart asshole" and can distinguish himself as a good foil to Tony stark with at least a screen presence on par with him. Best I can think is them snatching Affleck but even then hes a bit old for starting this shit.

How many pieces of Vivian James merchandise have you owned?

"Rich, smart asshole" isn't Reed's character, though. The asshole characterization is mostly a product of the late 90s/early 2000s when everything had to be edgy and dark. Despite their flaws, Fox's two Fantastic Four films actually nailed Reed's characterization. Reed is smart, but he's also sincere and kind. He doesn't have those walls of snarkiness or assholery because he's not a broken person like Tony or Strange.

Reed proposes to Sue. Notice the distinct lack of quips of this scene.

Also, an early example of redhead erasure (rip Alicia Masters).

Almost everyone I've seen has said the exact opposite, in that MCU movies seem to refuse to take themselves seriously and suffer terribly because of it.
There’s a subtle difference.

As far as story goes, the MCU takes its lore pretty seriously. It doesn’t have a lot of self-aware camp that older superhero movies might have, instead replacing it with poorly-fitting jokes.

I am convinced you haven't even read through this thread. There's hardly anyone walking through hot coals to defend the MCU in this thread. Plenty of people are voicing their grievances, if anything.

Keep fighting whatever "good fight" you think you're fighting though. It obviously makes you feel important.

I actually said Captain Marvel sucked and said it was inferior to Aquaman, and he's still been sperging about me white knighting Larson just because I said she won't singlehandedly kill the entire franchise. He's seeing what he wants to see.
