Regarding Fem!Thor... well, long rambling potentially autistic rant below.
The thing is that for me, Thor movies jumped the shark the minute Joss Whedon got his paws on Thor and Loki and that Avengers came out. Kenneth Brannagh was a perfect pick because he knew how to bring a certain larger-than-life feel that was perfect for Asgard (thank his Shakespearian background for that, not to mention that he directed the only decent live-action Disney remake). The characters were three-dimensional and likeable - yeah, even Jane Foster. But of course, Whedon had to go ahead and turn Thor and Loki into caricatures of what they were, so we ended up with the mess that was Thor 2 - not to mention they had Patty Jenkins initially but she got unceremoniously fired.
I mentioned Patty Jenkins above because her firing is the "official" reason why Natalie Portman quit. And not to whiteknight, but I do feel a bit bad talking shit about Portman because she is a good actress and she seems like a shy person. But I guess that after Black Swan, she probably only wanted to go for producing/directing gigs and Oscar-bait films - she can give an entire speech about how there aren't enough female directors working but the truth is that in the 2010s, she only worked with ONE female director. LEL.
Also, Portman has TERRIBLE taste in picking projects. Last 8 years, only two projects of note she had were Jackie (pure Oscar bait, got a nom but the film didn't do that well) and Annihilation (not a bad film, but she was kind of miscast and the film itself is a bit too ahead of its time imo). Oh yeah, there's that Xavier Dolan film that everyone made fun of, but I don't know who in their right mind would pair up with that pretentious fuck. (I come from Quebec and I hear about him all the fucking time. Fuck Xavier Dolan.)
Ragnarrok was fun and definitely not a bad movie, but it was more of a parody of the Thor films than a continuation. I will say that Valkyrie is an actually well-done female version of a Han Solo type of character - something they probably tried doing with Carol Danvers but failed miserably.
Anyway, the modus operandi with the MCU is that they're masters at marketing. The "Captain Marvel controversy" is probably exactly what they wanted - they wanted people to talk, negatively or positively, just so people would go and see it at the very least out of morbid curiosity. That's the reason why Wonder Woman, despite being a superior movie, didn't do as well - WB wasn't bothered to market it. But when the movie comes out, all the "woke" marketing surrounding it goes to dust, because the film itself fails to deliver in the sense that it stays pretty lukewarm on said woke issues. Black Panther was fine - I'd even say it's the best Marvel film since the first Thor. Captain Marvel was honestly overall pretty dull and uninteresting, and played it safe. So for people who are worried Portman's Thor will be as bad as the Lady Thor comics - I seriously doubt it. Kevin Feige's a hack, but he's a smart hack who'll please everyone while providing half-assed films.
I'll take Portman over Larson any day, any time, but they both have the charisma of a black hole. Chris Hemsworth is a mediocre actor but he has charisma, which makes up for it. Tessa Thompson and Jamie Alexander both have the chops to lead a Thor film (good actresses AND very charismatic), but nope. It's not that I have a problem with Lady Thor - but heck, I'd even be fine with Darcy becoming Lady Thor because that would be fucking hilarious. But nope, let's give it to Portman who played a character who was a scientist and one of the smartest people on Earth , who all of a sudden becomes Muscle Lady because that makes perfect sense with the character. Sure. That's totally going to get Portman's career back on track.
