Oh boy, are you guys ready for a Mask reboot!

I think it's pretty much guaranteed this is going to be a train wreck, but hopefully it's at least a meme worthy train wreck.

I’m not all that mad about this. Like the original creator was the one to bring it up.

Also I think that Kate McKinnon could pull it off because I find her pretty goddamn creepy.

It's hard for me to get upset at these "reboots", anymore - to do so just feeds into the online culture war cycle where dupes and suckers on one side will stand up to defend the "purity" of some piece of corporate product primarily meant to move merch and sell overseas, demanding it not be "ruined" or they'll stand up as mobs of cordycepted nerds angrily pretending to enjoy the latest bland remake, reboot, capeshit flick or Disney movie meant for babies primarily through lying about how BIGOTS hated it unfairly.

"The Ghostbusters reboot was FUNNY and you GAMERGATE SHITLORD PISS BABIES are the ONLY REASON it didn't SMASH AT THE BOX OFFICE YOU BIGOTED SCUM!" (said through gritted teeth)

I'm already over it. Nope. No need to get mad over something that will inevitably suck and be forgotten within 5 years.

Movies this shitty is normally forgotten about in 5 months, when the million dollar marketing budgets run out. In typical Hollywood fashion it'll be all over social media (money talks), and you bet they'll make a shitty app where you can "mask" and "unmask" your selfies.

So aside from having the usual level of disgust for Hollywood's high school levels of creativity when it comes to making new films. I have a particular feeling of foreboding for this, but I am happy to support it's creation even though I will never see it.

The reason is this. This is likely going to be a terrible derivative film that seems to be the bread and butter of the WOKE comedy film genre at the moment. Now that said there are a myriad of reasons why this film will likely be terrible.

a) No one asked for a Mask remake, and I'm not even sure there is a market for it. The original mask was an obscure graphic novel, before the film options was made on it, and even then it deviated so far from the original story in a bid to make it more saleable to a family audience.

The film was a median success because it was made at the height of Carey's comedic film career, and even then it's a fairly forgettable experience. The sequel even more so. It was so underwhelming that the common consensus of it being a complete turkey is hardly argued.

b) Melissa McCarthy isn't a terrible supporting comedic actress, she has had some good roles in the past, but she cannot carry a film on her own. She doesn't have the comedic chops, or the charisma to actually pull it off, and so far the majority of films that she has been in that haven't been ensemble comedies have been middling to mediocre at best.

c) One must ask why the author is motivated to get this remake made. Again he would have had some form of residuals and rights from the sales of the film rights to the first two iterations of the Mask films, and would have been paid upfront for the options. Options in films are really lucrative, because regardless if the film gets made once an option is purchased, that is money in the bank for the original author.

Without wanting to sound too cynical, because I can only speak from my perception and not with knowledge of the authors character in mind, I find it a bit suspicious that he's eager to get the film made. Maybe he want's to actually get a more closer to the source material interpretation made, but with everything I've seen about the potential production so far, I'm more inclined to think that he just wants a fat cheque.

So why support this film being made, even though I will never see it? In the hopes that it loses the studios money and audience support over a longer period of time. The worse and weaker they get, the better the potential chances that some new studio might come along and wipe the floor with them by actually making some original content.

At the very least if a giant studio gets woke and goes broke then that will also be vindication for fans, that trademark holders shouldn't fuck around too much with the original properties.

>The mask removes inhibition and is used for revenge
>Women Starring
>Major HollyWoke studio production
>Era of Microaggresions and Men are terrible monsters

You already know where this is headed. Prepare for scene after scene of Barnyard Pussy "saving" women from EBIL men followed by everyone stood up and clapped.

Oh wait, it's the author who wants to do a reboot. But why with Melissa McCarthy of all people? She's not funny. She's not attractive and she's not charismatic. She's the diet-Rosie O'Donnell. Get literally anyone else.
[/QUOTE]

Even Rosie was funnier than McCarthy, which is what would you would get if Chris Farley had lived, got a sex change, and had his funniness removed along with his dick.

that's why the mask was freaking crazy as shit ! it's a freaking wonder it became a kids property
Yeah I remember being flabbergasted when I saw the ads for the movie. I hadn't read the comics but I had read enough other Dark Horse stuff at the time that I was at least vaguely familiar with the concept of it, so then Jim Carrey Does CG Jim Carrey Shit Only He's Dressed Like The Mask was like dude wtf.

Looking at early concept art from the movies is really creepy. It looks like they tried to get it closer to the comic but it didn't work.

I see. Someone should let Geeks + Gamers know about this right away before he makes 40 videos about it. Not that it'll stop him anyway.

IT BEGINS.

"What's up, Geeks n' Gamerrrs... It's Jeremy comingatyourightnowwithanudder videooooooo...."

I’d be down for a more faithful take on the source material. Unfortunately this ain’t it chief
