Well, considering our very survival as a species may depend on it, I'd say it's worth any cost. We only have one earth. My survival doesn't depend on me having a clean garden. I can always go to the grocery store. We can't go to another planet to live on (that we know of, anyway
Hey now, why don't you want to clean your garden at any cost? The worst that can happen is that you'll end up with a clean garden and a clean environment is very important for our (your) health.
We all have to do our part. What if the farmers also refused to pay $10000 per acre to keep their farms clean?
Okay, you get the point. The worst that can happen isn't that you end up with a clean environment, the worst that can happen is that trillions are spent inefficiently and ineffectively or on entirely different things than what they are earmarked for.
It actually matters to get the science accurate as well as acknowledging the past mistakes, because otherwise the business of climate science will continue to lose credibility and that is all too convenient for the dirty manufacturers.
In my own country there is a considerable scandal with fudging the temperature data to make things seem more dire than they are. A couple of researchers discovered that they changed the measuring station a couple of years back. And because their new location, they decided, because the couple of years of measuring had a different average than the old measuring station, that they should amend all 50 years of measuring data and increase it by a couple of degrees, where suddenly we are experiencing record numbers of heat waves in the last 50 years according to the data.
There have also been studies done where climate researchers say there is not an atmosphere that is very open to differing opinions. It's been one or two years since I've read it, but I can probably dig it up if you're interested.
My issue is not with investing resources in climate change research, or dealing with potential climate change catastrophes, but considering the amounts spent, more responsible and more open to inquiry atmosphere is essential. The demand to throw any amount at it when there are significant parts where we're not even sure they're contributing to the danger.
I guess it would be one thing if even half of the catastrophic predictions had been accurate, but they haven't been. As it stands it looks like a really large doomsday cult sometimes, including slick profiteers at the top.
Well, I doubt I managed to sway your mind, but I did my best introducing some more depth to the subject. I think I've derailed sufficiently. I'll read any response to it and answers any questions regarding this, but otherwise I'll leave it at this in this thread.
