I see this a ton and I don't know if it's confirmation bias or what, but almost every project I've ever followed is "delayed due to health reasons" at one point or another. It always results in the project being cut down or not as full-featured as originally advertised and it's a coin flip whether or not the project even finishes, but without fail someone key to the project always "has health problems". What the fuck is it with that stuff? I've worked with people who are fat as hell, unhealthy, or had pre-existing conditions and had heart bypass surgery who were back after a month or two and working full-time again with the only delays being project timelines.

Indie projects though? They crash and burn. If I was being a heartless jackass I'd bet these people don't really have health problems and just suck at working full-time with project timeline obligations, which is why they can't find actual work with actual businesses who measure your performance and expect you to earn your paycheck. I'd love to do a search on all Kickstarter and Patreon updates for the term "health reasons" and see how many of those results are excuses for project delays that never fully get back up on their feet.

I honestly just think it's the scale of the projects. I imagine for most people making youtube videos/indie games for a few hundred people is fun (or streaming for 5-10). Because of the size of the industry now though when you start to get "big" you get big in a real way, and now you are no longer dealing with a few hundred people - you're dealing with several hundred thousands.

Everything just becomes worse - instead of a delay being a simple little "hey lost track of time" and getting back 10 versions of "hey's that's cool" you're not getting back 100,000 versions of "you lazy pile of shit". You're dealing with magnitudes more money as well, and that always makes people uptight. If you're a streamer and you are having technical issues for 5 people, no one cares because you're making $15/month from it and you saved up for a year to buy a capture card. If you're making $10,000/month streaming people get upset when you miss commitments.

Black people aren't supposed to succeed.

I mean. You may think it's a stretch but there's something that screams OVERCOMPENSATION with people who are aggressively into social justice (like Liam has drifted into). If you gotta crow about how much you, in fact, think all people are equal etc etc, maybe you've got a few nasty opinions deep down somewhere. (And a bit of a superiority complex)

Cuz you look at Pat and he clearly walks the walk when it comes to his friends and the way he treats people. I never see him screaming about social justice either.

There is something about those who go down the SJW path where they will either become absolutely fucking unbearable, or will "stab you in the back" at a moments notice for validation. You kinda get that with Liam and Matt to an extent. Liam spent a good couple of years with those 2, doesn't want to talk to either of them, their a "taboo" subject, and is willing to kinda shit talk them behind their backs. Haven't seen Matt with Woolie either, especially since they were meant to be friends. With Pat, and especially Pat, who is as he is, you can decide within 15 minutes of meeting the guy whether you will get on with him or not, same with Woolie.

That's because Liam/Matt are from the Social Justice scene, which is a hyper-vigilant bloodbath at all times and full of mostly white people who like having a bad time.

Pat/Woolie (and especially Woolie) are from the Fighting Game Community, which is a super diverse group of people who enjoy fun and video games. I say "especially Woolie" because he, according to SBFP lore, was a TO/Commentator/etc for the Montreal FGC, meaning he was at the heart and soul of it (like Yipes) instead of just a member.

The two communities couldn't fundamentally be further apart - in the FGC you're still friends with your enemies (because you're in the same community as your competitor) but in the SJW circles you're enemies with your friends (because they could say something wrong and you don't want to get dragged down with them).

Matt played fighting games. As did Liam. Woolie and Pat actually attended tournaments, Woolie more than Pat. Not sure if Matt and Liam ever entered a tournament in their lives.

I don't think that Liam thinks he should be more successful than Matt/Pat/Woolie, but it seems like he was much better friends with Matt.

Matt regularly jumps on Liam's streams and Liam routinely jumps on Matt's channel for guest spots and post SBFP breakup (and maybe a little before) they've had a similar dynamic to Pat and Woolie (as in, two guys doing separate things but sometimes collaborating).

I imagine that when Matt broke off he probably talked a lot of shit about "being the brains and talent of the SBFP operation" and probably was going to take Liam along for the ride as he made his new empire. However, post-break it looks like 100% of the success to be had has been going strictly to Pat/Woolie and I'm no industry insider but it seems like Woolie and Pat are leagues more business savvy than Matt ever will be.

Matt kept the channel (thesw1tcher) but while it generates revenue, it is only going to decline. Woolie/Pat kept the podcast which will continue to grow and is a very fertile ground for sponsorship. Pat/Woolie scored a number of sponsorship to some degree where as Matt seems to have scored nothing.

TL;DR - Liam is probably anxious because he knows his friend Matt (and likely his wife) aren't going to be super happy about Pat/Woolie's success.

Some of this doesn't really add up, since Liam wasn't originally as close with Matt as he was with Woolie (and honestly I think Matt's infatuation with Liam during the life of the channel was really bizarre). You have to remember that Woolie and Liam worked together in QA regularly and there are quite a few stories on the channel of how inseparable Liam and Woolie seemed to be before they committed fulltime to the channel.

IIRC: In one playthrough, Matt said Woolie wouldn't come along officially if he couldn't bring Liam, though I think this may have just been an exaggerative poke at their level of friendship, common to Matt's brand of stretching-the-truth comedy.

I interpreted Liam's slightly melodramatic reaction as seeing Pat, someone he clearly does not like, being in the passenger seat with Woolie in this newer, successful endeavor. Along with probably because he doesn't see nearly as much success himself. I'm pretty sure Matt was the last thing on his mind.

With that said: I have never seen Liam actually act as petty as I've heard. I've heard he holds grudges and acts painfully milquetoast, but I've never seen him do anything nearly as outrageous as that twitch screencap. Like what did he mean "I can't do this today"? Did he cancel the stream or something?

Regardless of how the friendships were initially (wherein Woolie was everyone's best friend) the battle lines seem pretty clearly drawn with Pat and Woolie remaining close friends and collaborators while staying friends with everyone from that "circle" (Plauge of Gripes, Clemps, etc) where as Matt seems to be doing his own thing with occasionally a Liam collaboration.

Pat and Woolie (and company) seem much more like a team and it shows in their level of success.

It will probably be years before we hear the real story, but from the outside it seems like whatever beef Pat and Matt had, Woolie thought Pat was in the right and chose accordingly. From the snippets that get loose here and there it seems like Matt was more of the "this is a business" type and Pat and Woolie were more of the "having fun with a cool job" type of people.

RE: Liam being petty is something that comes up every so often, but you would point to his reaction during this as well as his reaction when news of the split first hit as him being kind of petty. He also shows some pettiness in a few of their videos and typically was the most "trolly" of the group.

Sure, but I wanted to iterate what I believed Liam's point of upset may have more likely been: a flash of pure upset of such a circumstance even manifesting.

It's partially Liam's fault, in a way. Leaving your job to mend your mental health is fine or whatever, but I don't even mean that. Just seeing all this evidence of how purely passive aggressive he's been, how he'll start to talk about a private matter but button up about it, or throw someone else in the mix for no reason; it's pure milquetoast. Just extremely petty stuff. If he's anything but shocked by the Superbeast success then he only has himself to blame for burning bridges, and it makes his often cheery, positive demeanor just seem like a facade.

I feel like Matt wanted Woolie to choose between him and Pat, and Woolie wasn’t willing to give up either friend, so Matt broke things off with Woolie completely because he was mad Woolie wouldn’t choose.

Admittedly, I’m just basing this off that one Twitch clip when he was playing Kirby, but still...

I wish Liam would have the dignity to have a proper chimpout on stream or twitter about this.
Sadly his online impact is as bland as his content.

Matt is someone who I still wont watch his content to give him the views. not that I have an overt dislike of him...but the jokes miss so much that it comes off as cringe porn, and not even the enjoyable kind.
Every video is a 'Machine High, are you ready!' moment to me.

But I'm super happy for Pat and Woolie, especially as Pat has descended completely into being a shitposter.
Paige is also someone who has an amazing talent on pissing off weird people on twitter... Which is also the purpose of twitter.

You know, maybe Liam has that weird freakout because Pat, the only one of the four of them who wasn’t a part of the video games industry to begin with, is now more successful and with more connections than Liam ever managed, and that really bothers him. Like he didn’t expect Pat to advance any farther since SBF broke up. So seeing a guy he actively disliked do better than him rustled his jimmies.

I dunno, I’m literally jest theorizing out my ass here.
