"The German chancellor, Angela Merkel, has condemned far-right protesters for “hunting down” foreigners in street mobs following the killing of a German man, allegedly by a Syrian and an Iraqi."

"Prosecutors said on Monday that police had arrested a 23-year-old Syrian man and a 22-year-old Iraqi man on suspicion of stabbing the 35-year-old German in an altercation in the early hours of Sunday. “The investigation, especially into the motive, the details of the crime and the murder weapon continue,” a statement said."

After the knife murder at the Chemnitz city festival, the situation threatens to escalate, reports the newspaper Bild. After the break-up of the Chemnitz city festival, about 1000 demonstrators march through the city on Sunday evening. According to their own statements, they are demonstrating against alien crime, moving from "focus to focus", chanting "We are the people".

The dead man is said to have been slaughtered with 25 stab wounds. It is reported that the second has now also succumbed to his serious injuries. This communication has not yet been verified. According to eyewitnesses, about a thousand violent people have gathered in Chemnitz city center. There are massive attacks on migrants. The police are currently completely overwhelmed and have asked all migrants to leave the city centre. There is a danger that the mood will change all over Saxony.

Holy shit, she even looked 64 when she was in her 20's. That's unfortunate.

Its easy to blame Merkel for present day Germany afraid of being perceived in any way resistant to non-whites, but the blame is misplaced. Not really sure anyone specifically is to blame, more like a shitstorm of history meeting the present day.

What she is blamable for is allowing a large horde of economic migrants move right into Germany, pushing via the EU to make other countries do the same and the resulting terror attacks and rapes it caused while she plugged her ears and claimed nothing was wrong and it was the people and country's fault for not doing enough for the refugees.

Would this mean they would want to separate again?
There's quite a lot of people who bitch and moan about how shitty things are now and how awesome things were back in the day. These people view the GDR through rose-tinted glasses, but as a matter of fact: Life sucked in the GDR and claiming anything else is ludicrous. Half the population was trying to sell each other to the secret police and eavesdropping on one another while the economy was running for decades on money lended to the GDR by Western Germany. When VW was celebrating the millionth VW Beetle being made and sold, the GDR was celebrating the 100th steam train engine being repaired.

This is secession crisis U.S. civil war levels bad.
Not really and this fearmongering is ridiculous. They aren't particularly happy with how things are being run, but they aren't going to secede ever... partially since they have no fucking money to do so. Bavaria is rattling the sabre of becoming independent and that is fucking ridiculous, but at least the Bavarians have enough money to at least pretend to be serious about the matter.
If anything, NPD and AfD will receive more votes in the next election.

Not convinced its a far right issue.
AfD-involvement not withstanding, the leading group that started this all was a group of soccer hooligan right wingers. Not everyone in that main demonstration was a super serious neo nazi, a lot of them are just disenfranchised with their government and are pissed about the situation (and rightfully so), but if you're trying to claim that people that attack foreigners on the streets in what they claim is "fighting to take back their country" isn't right wing, then I don't know what is.

Everyone has their breaking point, where a series of unfortunate events will eventually cause them to... snap.

From the looks of it, the Germans are starting to reach theirs. Unless drastic measures are taken (like stricter immigration laws, but good luck with that as long as Merkel's running the show), things might start to get pretty ugly in the future.

Large demonstrations like that are nothing new in Saxony.

(like stricter immigration laws, but good luck with that as long as Merkel's running the show)
They actually made the laws for political asylum (remember, the Syrians are refugees not immigrants) stricter last year.

The former areas of East Germany still lag economically behind the West, so they are particularly sensitive to the migrant problem because they feel their social services and local economy are already struggling to support the native people. Also, there is frequent speculation that the old communist government of East Germany did not do a very thorough job of suppressing/reeducating those elements of society that would eventually be aligned with the far right political parties of today, so their viewpoints are more accepted in the old East Germany areas.

The former GDR has historically been pretty right-wing, shortly after the wall came down there was a huge influx of neo-nazi groups and parties in that area that has persisted until this very day.
The reasons are to be found in communism, oddly enough.
All (Soviet-style) communist countries tend to be very homogenous and xenophobic (even China, try walking through a first-tier city like Shenzen as a darkie and see how the populace reacts).
The issue is, of course, that essentially all state-run industries folded with access to the west and there were no more guaranteed jobs like there used to be for every good worker-drone so they were quick to shout "foreigners took our jerbs".

Does her party know how much she has fucked europe up, her actions are the main reason Brexit won and why this guy is dead.

Correct - her actions were a HUGE part of why Brexit happened. I'm not hanging around here (UK) much longer tbh coz Brexit is gonna be a decades long utter fucking mess. I'll be fucking off to either Italy or Switzerland within the next 3-5 years.

Does her party know how much she has fucked europe up, her actions are the main reason Brexit won and why this guy is dead.
Not gonna lie, I am really eager to find out what perspective we'll have on Merkel's bullshit some decades in the future... or rather what the official history textbook perspective will be.
The thing about her is that in terms of inner-european politics and finances, she's representing a lot of stability, but I assume her "Wir schaffen das" will go down as the ultimate failure of a state to solve a huge fucking problem that just shoved itself upon the continent.
It's not even so much that she had all those refugees along the balkan route be brought to Germany, it's more about the way how that was done and how poorly it was managed. No vetting, rampant abuse of our laws and trust, rising over-represantation of foreigners involved in severe crime with barely any legal consequences in certain cases... a lot of these issues are also to be blamed on ministries, agencies, courts and so on.

The shit that is now going down in Chemnitz is to a large part people being pissed that they feel like there's an attrition of law when it comes to criminal foreigners.
In a lot of cases, it's only their personal perception, mind you, we've had many cases of people receiving appropriate punishments in court in the past, but every now and then, you get a case where you can't help but wonder just what the fuck the judge was smoking when he decided to essentially just slap some rapist's wrist and let him go almost unpunished. Or in a similar fashion, someone stabs a guy and we hear the age old mantras of "was known to police" and "had a reputation of being violent" and the likes.

People are pissed and the eastern parts of Germany have always had a very strong right-wing slant.
In the 90s, it was in those areas that particularly violent attacks against refugee homes happened (with thousands of people chanting and cheering while said homes were attacked with molotow cocktails).
I guess that explains why this is such a big issue and why all politicians condemn this new escalation so much, it reeks like it's only a matter of time until a large group of people starts throwing molotow cocktails again while a mob of angry people cheers them on and prevents police and firefighters from doing their job.
A number of videos that I have seen of these protests shows them chanting "Deutschland den Deutschen, Ausländer raus" (ie: Germany to the Germans, expell [all] foreigners). That is pretty open xenophobia, even fore Saxony.

Holy shit, she even looked 64 when she was in her 20's. That's unfortunate.
It's not actually her, but sure as hell looks like it.

One of those women is however, Obama's mom.

I guess the far righters didn't know this otherwise they would be glad that foreigners kill each other because for them half germans count as foreigners. Kinda like in Japan.
Not really. Hafus are considered "Japanese" by their census, and unless you're obviously something like half-nigger or openly whore about your dual heritage, it's not an issue. The far-right in Japan actually believe a third or even quarter of the population are Zainichi Koreans.

Nah, but maybe barreling through the streets, attacking people for the hideous crime of "not being from around these here parts" and chasing them around for no other reason than having a darker skin is sort of kinda right-wing bullshit.
One thing to keep in mind is that "Wir sind das Volk" shouts have been the mating call of the far-right movements in eastern Germany for a decade now. For the record "Merkel muss weg" and "Lügenpresse" are their calls of dismay.

This isn't an instance of someone exclaiming their displeasure about something being met with the age-old bullshit rhetoric of "[x]'s violence isn't violence, your words are violence."
These people went through the streets picking fights with people who did absolutely nothing. It's not like they attacked the (already incarcerated) murderers.
And this might sound crazy to some people, but I would like to live in a nation where I neither have to fear getting stabbed by a "14 year old" Ahmed Ibn Ben Gabi nor do I want to live in a nation where hundreds of violent idiots run through the streets and start beating up people based on what they look like.
tl;dr the solution to a chimpout is never a chimpout

Just if you didn't knew, but the victim which was stabbed was a non-White man of Cuban descent and a member of the left-wing. If he would have survived and went to the downtown of Chemnitz Karl-Marx-Stadt today, the Nazis would have hunted him too, like other people who didn't look White.

Neo-Nazis and other parts of the far-right wing are very powerful in Saxony, where they have infiltrated large parts of many governmental institutions.

People are pissed and the eastern parts of Germany have always had a very strong right-wing slant.
Which is ironic, because Eastern Germany was once the German Democratic Republic and very much left-wing.

To be clear, I'm not at all happy that riots are breaking out and that perfectly innocent people are being hurt. However, it's probably going to be worse before it gets better.

Spend decades telling people that only racist shitheels hold their concerns, and eventually they will embrace their inner racist shitheels.

I mean, why shouldn't they?

Last time this happened we got WW2. If pendulum theory rings true just imagine what effect that will have on the EU as a whole.

America and Russia to the rescue 2.0?

You keep pointing this out and people just keep refusing to listen. It's as if the part of western society intent on shoving it's moral values down everyone else's throats because ''right side of history" doesn't understand that all they're doing is fucking it up for the rest of the minorities who are normal people and who just want to live their own lives in piece.

Oh yeah, it's understandable. But it's still shitty.

It's the government's job to foster law and order to the degree that citizens don't have to dodge the brickbats and bottles of opposite-end extremists fighting each other, treating both ends as threats preserved the status quo for the great middle-ground of a stable society for decades, until the ruling elites decided to put their finger on the scale for "Muh virtue signaling!" and decide certain groups could do no wrong, and others, no right.....

Gobal neoliberalism has upset that balance all across the greater EU by coddling one side as being the "right side of history" and all that.... and even as it breaks down before them, they can think of nothing to do but CODDLE HARDER and wring their hands as they have absolutely NO IDEA where this growing nationalist/populist discontent is coming from.....

Winner, winner chicken dinner.

Do they thing right wing extremists just appear from nowhere...

...but if you're trying to claim that people that attack foreigners on the streets in what they claim is "fighting to take back their country" isn't right wing, then I don't know what is.

So... are you saying the seizing of white farms by the government in south africa, to "Take back their country" is right wing? Because.... it's mostly left wing people agreeing with them. Is trump left wing now for opposing it?

Sorry for the derail, but right wing just seems to mean "bad" to so many people.

So... are you saying the seizing of white farms by the government in south africa, to "Take back their country" is right wing?
No, since it wasn't a general statement about anything globally but rather a specific example on a german/national level.
Also, I don't think the two things are the same. One group essentially wants to "take back their country" by expelling and subdueing what they deem negative foreign influence/presence while the other wants to repossess farms for stupid ideological reasons.
Unsurprisingly, there's a huge overlap between some of the goals between the far left and far right since the bottom line of such political movements seems to come from people disgruntled with the status quo.

Either way, I am not using "right wing" as a synonym for "bad".
