"The German chancellor, Angela Merkel, has condemned far-right protesters for “hunting down” foreigners in street mobs following the killing of a German man, allegedly by a Syrian and an Iraqi."

"Prosecutors said on Monday that police had arrested a 23-year-old Syrian man and a 22-year-old Iraqi man on suspicion of stabbing the 35-year-old German in an altercation in the early hours of Sunday. “The investigation, especially into the motive, the details of the crime and the murder weapon continue,” a statement said."

After the knife murder at the Chemnitz city festival, the situation threatens to escalate, reports the newspaper Bild. After the break-up of the Chemnitz city festival, about 1000 demonstrators march through the city on Sunday evening. According to their own statements, they are demonstrating against alien crime, moving from "focus to focus", chanting "We are the people".

The dead man is said to have been slaughtered with 25 stab wounds. It is reported that the second has now also succumbed to his serious injuries. This communication has not yet been verified. According to eyewitnesses, about a thousand violent people have gathered in Chemnitz city center. There are massive attacks on migrants. The police are currently completely overwhelmed and have asked all migrants to leave the city centre. There is a danger that the mood will change all over Saxony.

Last time this happened we got WW2. If pendulum theory rings true just imagine what effect that will have on the EU as a whole.

America and Russia to the rescue 2.0?
Except now Russia would be on the right side of history.

The Russians would probably be more interested in reinstating the Warsaw Pact than fixing Germany's ills. But I don't think anyone's going to start shit with NATO just because a few tanned Germans go missing.
Yeah, but according to the Lügenpresse, Russia will go out of their way for world domination, and started with Brexit and DRUMPF! Never mind the fact right-wing populism outside of Eastern Europe adversely affects Russia more than benefits it. That's fake news!

Its easy to blame Merkel for present day Germany afraid of being perceived in any way resistant to non-whites, but the blame is misplaced. Not really sure anyone specifically is to blame, more like a shitstorm of history meeting the present day.

Nah, but maybe barreling through the streets, attacking people for the hideous crime of "not being from around these here parts" and chasing them around for no other reason than having a darker skin is sort of kinda right-wing bullshit.
One thing to keep in mind is that "Wir sind das Volk" shouts have been the mating call of the far-right movements in eastern Germany for a decade now. For the record "Merkel muss weg" and "Lügenpresse" are their calls of dismay.

This isn't an instance of someone exclaiming their displeasure about something being met with the age-old bullshit rhetoric of "[x]'s violence isn't violence, your words are violence."
These people went through the streets picking fights with people who did absolutely nothing. It's not like they attacked the (already incarcerated) murderers.
And this might sound crazy to some people, but I would like to live in a nation where I neither have to fear getting stabbed by a "14 year old" Ahmed Ibn Ben Gabi nor do I want to live in a nation where hundreds of violent idiots run through the streets and start beating up people based on what they look like.

All these news reports twist the whole story by not reporting on the national background of the victim:

The 35-year-old German-Cuban man was killed and two others were left needing hospital treatment after what police described as a dispute between "several people of various nationalities" on Sunday.

Police have arrested a 22-year-old Iraqi man and a 23-year-old Syrian man in connection with the death, according to Leipzig's LVZ news site.

German news sites like "ntv" speak of "Chemnitz citizens with Cuban roots":

What triggered the protests in Chemnitz?

In the night to Sunday at 3.15 a.m., according to police, there was an "assault between several people of different nationalities" on the fringes of the Chemnitz city festival. Three men aged 33, 35 and 38 were seriously injured. The 35-year-old died later in hospital from his injuries. Police caught two men who had fled the scene. Police rejected speculations in the social networks on Sunday that a woman's sexual harassment preceded the dispute.

Are there any suspects?

The Chemnitz District Court has issued arrest warrants for a Syrian and an Iraqi manslaughter. The two men are said to have stabbed the 35-year-old man several times "without justification", the authority announced. Investigations into the motive and the course of the crime are ongoing.

What is known about the victim?

The dead man is said to be a 35-year-old carpenter from Chemnitz with Cuban roots. In a Facebook message, the former training company of the 35-year-old reacted with "consternation and bewilderment". The former apprentice had been a "helpful, hard-working and fun-loving person". The killer's Facebook page has meanwhile been put into a state of remembrance. In the social network, the victim had liked sites such as "Die Linke Chemnitz", "Storch Heinar" or "FCK NZS", so he probably saw himself politically more to the left.

Is there a second casualty?

Police have denied rumors of a second death. "Contrary to rumours that tell something else, there has been no second death since the incident in Chemnitz," police wrote on Twitter.

Who called for the protests on Sunday?

According to police, there were several calls on the Internet on Sunday morning to meet in the city center. Among other things, AfD Sachsen had called for a "spontaneous demonstration against violence" via Facebook. Another call came from the hooligan group "Kaotic Chemnitz". The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution classifies "Kaotic Chemnitz" as extreme right-wing.

Then what happened?

Initially, only about 100 people followed the call of the AfD. It remained peaceful. Around 4.30 p.m., police said, about 800 people gathered at the Karl Marx Monument. A little later, the group started moving and moved "across the city centre". There were also bottle throws in the direction of the police officers. Videos show how migrants are attacked by the masses. You can hear shouts like "We are the people", but also right-wing slogans like "German, social, national". For security reasons, the city festival had previously been cancelled.

Was the police understaffed?

According to the police, they were initially "on the spot with little strength". Other officers were sent to Chemnitz from other missions in Dresden and Leipzig. The Saxon left-wing politician Kerstin Köditz accuses the police of failures. "Why did it take so long to get enough emergency personnel here. If information leaks out that there was a dead man on the outskirts of a city festival, then the police should have been standing on foot - with all the alcohol consumed on such occasions," Köditz criticised.

Will there be more demonstrations in Chemnitz?

A spokeswoman for the Chemnitz police said that various calls for demonstrations are circulating on the Internet. At present, there are plans to deal with it. Among other things, the "Citizens' Movement PRO CHEMNITZ" is planning a rally. The call has already been shared more than 3000 times on Facebook. Several counterdemonstrations are also planned. The alliance "Chemnitz Nazifrei" has called for a rally in the Stadthallenpark at 5 pm.

How does the Federal Government react?

After the incidents in Chemnitz, the federal government has strongly condemned "huntings" of foreigners. "We will not tolerate such clashes, hunts for people of a different appearance or origin, or attempts to spread hatred on the streets," said government spokesman Steffen Seibert in Berlin. The Federal Government condemns this "in the strongest terms". The government spokesman called the death of the 35-year-old "terrible". The bloody deed is now "cleared up with all efforts" by the police to bring the suspect(s) to justice. "That's the way to deal with crimes in a constitutional state," Seibert said.

Maybe if they had made the distinction more clear, all these far-right elements would not be rioting in the streets

If the government was interested in keeping their citizens from pursuing imperfect justice, they should not allow political virtue signalling to restrain the police in their duty.

It's the government's job to foster law and order to the degree that citizens don't have to dodge the brickbats and bottles of opposite-end extremists fighting each other, treating both ends as threats preserved the status quo for the great middle-ground of a stable society for decades, until the ruling elites decided to put their finger on the scale for "Muh virtue signaling!" and decide certain groups could do no wrong, and others, no right.....

Gobal neoliberalism has upset that balance all across the greater EU by coddling one side as being the "right side of history" and all that.... and even as it breaks down before them, they can think of nothing to do but CODDLE HARDER and wring their hands as they have absolutely NO IDEA where this growing nationalist/populist discontent is coming from.....

"cosmopolitanism"

That's a great world to use to describe dumping a flood of illiterate submental rural people with no modern trade skills of any kind into your country and expecting positive results.
I thought it was "humanitarianism".
While they're at it, if that Karl Marx monument is government funded, why don't they try to get the funding pulled? He was just some crazy idiot who didn't know anything about anything and was easily refuted even in his own time.
Because Marxist Socialist Communism is the big new religion in the West.

The German cops are like Cops everywhere. They hate anything that makes their life difficult. In today's Germany, that is unrestricted migration from third world hell holes. Typical traditional German Citizens are among the worlds least likely to turn on police or authority with a weapon. The worst the cops typically face from them day to day is the crime of "Being German while Drunk". Which they are among the best in the world at dealing with. But the Migrants? Yeah guaranteed the cops hate them. They hate the migrant ghettos and the no go zones. They hate that they have been politically hobbled from dealing with actual violent crime by this group. When shit goes missing, they know exactly who is doing it. They would love to see this problem go away. Not because they are racist, but because cops everywhere inherently despise any population group that makes their life more difficult. and the German Migrants make the German Police's lives oh so very difficult.
Is it the same for the UK though?

You can't have your cake and eat it too. Humans are tribal. Human societies are essentially high school cliques with guns and the legal licence to use them. Civilization is in part in effort to make the tribal group large by inculcating ritual and common identity. National anthems, symbols of state, language, history, etc. By creating common purpose, common identity, you unify your tribes into one mega tribe. A civilization. This in turn creates stability that allows us to have babies and raise them from their helpless infant stage to the next generation to carry on the legacy.

The United States for example, works because while we have many "tribes" we mandated that all tribal identity be checked at the door and the American identity superced it. It's why we can have Russians, Poles and Greeks live in the same city and not want to murder each other. Of course there has been a concerted effort to break this unity down in facor of identity politics and multicultrualism, and as result American politics have polarized.

Nothing like what has happened in Europe though. There it is not so much multiculturalism as it is many mono cultures forced to live next to each other. No effort was made to force cultural unification. To unite the tribes. Instead differences within the civilizational boundary were elevated to near religious level sanctity. Not to be questioned or challenged for fear of being "racist".

It will end in blood. It speaks to Europe's massive internal stability that the violence has not started yet. But it will. It's inevitable.

Would this mean they would want to separate again?
The former areas of East Germany still lag economically behind the West, so they are particularly sensitive to the migrant problem because they feel their social services and local economy are already struggling to support the native people. Also, there is frequent speculation that the old communist government of East Germany did not do a very thorough job of suppressing/reeducating those elements of society that would eventually be aligned with the far right political parties of today, so their viewpoints are more accepted in the old East Germany areas.

Can't imagine why the communist party failed to reeducate people into good little leftists after they spread their cheeks to the Russians and turned the cultural heartland of Germany into a basketcase

the way I (imperfectly) understand it, the Communist government did not inculcate the East German people with the powerful sense of personal guilt about WWII and the Holocaust that became the defining cultural characteristic of West Germany. Instead, the East German people were taught that during the war, they had literally done nothing wrong. They had been maliciously misled by the Nazi leadership, and the proletariat was totally absolved of guilt because the proletariat could never be wrong or at fault. So Nazism was never totally ideologically discredited in the East; they retained the same radical authoritarian mindset but transferred their loyalty from a fascist dictatorship to a communist dictatorship. And when the Wall came down, the people in the East did not feel the same revulsion to the introduction of far right political parties that would be expected in the West.

While your post explains very articulately the reasoning behind why I think "WW3" will be an outbreak of civil war in western europe, it's worth mentioning that there were people immigrating to europe from places like africa and the middle-east that eventually fit in. It's mainly that it's way too many people from much too different a culture in much too small a timespan. If you think about it, it's not unlike a non-violent invasion.

Then Germany's problems are worse then i thought. It had not resolved the tribal conflict between east and west Germany before the government introduced a swarm of African and middle eastern migrants. This is very bad. Especially since the cultural boundary here is geographically identifiable. This is secession crisis U.S. civil war levels bad. Buy a gun.

Yep, and people are starting to realise it. The changes are happening to fast and the smug arrogance of the government officials pushing the policies that allow it only fan the flames.

He was half german, half cuban. That's why I don't get the riots.

I guess the far righters didn't know this otherwise they would be glad that foreigners kill each other because for them half germans count as foreigners. Kinda like in Japan.

Not convinced its a far right issue. You can be for universal healthcare, gay rights, and the right of women to be able to wear bikinis in public and still be against a horde of eritreans moving in, demanding you pay for their healthcare, harass gay men, and demand your girlfriend give them sex cuz she dressed like a "whore" in their eyes.

If anything the left should be screaming from the rooftops about the importation of cultural diversity into Europe that views its beliefs as worthy of death.

With the way things are going I won’t be surprised if they separated again. Which begs the question what type of government would they be? Would they return to their communist roots sans the way the Soviets ran things and run it a bit like China?
