Three people have died after being struck by a train near Loughborough Junction in south London.

The deaths are being treated as "unexplained" and police said inquiries are being carried out to establish how they came to be on the tracks.

Emergency services were called to the station, near Brixton, at about 07:30 BST to reports of multiple bodies.

London Ambulance Service paramedics attended, but the three people were pronounced dead at the scene.

Det Supt Gary Richardson, from British Transport Police, said his "thoughts are with the family and friends of these three people".

"My team are now working hard to understand what happened and how these three people came to lose their life on the railway," he added.

Trains are pretty fast and heavy. Even if it was ten people, they'd have all exploded into a fine red mist if the train was going fast enough.
It really only disrupts the service for as long as it takes to hose off the tracks.

A railroad locomotive weighs in the vicinity of 100 to 150 tons, or 300,000 pounds.

An adult human weighs in the vicinity of 180 to perhaps 220 pounds if they're the chunky sort. Even if all 3 of them were, that's only a grand total of, say 600 pounds in the way.

300,000 >600 , it's going to roll right over that like your car rolling over a stack of graham crackers.

People are incredibly stupid around trains...like they can out run them or because they are not fully on the tracks the train won't touch them.

I take Amtrak frequently and have seen the stupidest shit and you know it when the engineer is literally laying on the warning horn, look out the window and see the stupid people laughing and still close enough to get killed if they moved a few inches.

Last trip had a guy on the tracks filming the train as it was approaching the station.
Turned out he was a passenger, they denied him boarding.
And I think the engineer has seen a lot of this shit because all she said to him was...if this train hit you, do you how many of my passengers would be inconvenienced

People can act really exceptional around trains. I've seen it and heard about it.

Several years ago I was at a subway station. No one was down there but me and a few other female students. In walks a colossal virgin sperg. to end all virgin spergs. He decides that it would be a good idea to try to impress us by jumping onto the tracks and climbing back up on the platform multiple times. He's laughing and keeps staring at us for a reaction. No one's saying a thing. Finally, and only because I don't want my day to be ruined by train gore, I tell the guy that if he doesn't stop he's going to get hit by the train. He just says he's not going to get hit by the train. Very casually. As if it could never happen.

He didn't get hit. But he was very fortunate. Because those trains come out of nowhere. You see the light and think you have time. But you really don't. Another time I overheard some police officers talking about an incident where a lady was so high that she fell onto the tracks, had no idea what the hell was going on and got hit. Luckily she only lost an arm because there was a recess by the wall that led to some maintenance door and she stumbled over there just in time. They said she was wandering around down there with no idea her arm was gone mumbling to herself. I guess she was too high on drugs to feel any pain.

And I've seen kids try to pry the doors open for lulz while the train was moving. They had to stop the train and the operator was seriously pissed. when I was little there was a news story about a kid who lost his head because he stuck it out the emergency window. That was back when a little window was openable near the front of the car. They removed those. The kid's head smashed right into a pillar. Makes me wonder if school bus windows can still be opened.

I'm wondering if these people were hit because they were filming for Youtube or taking selfies. The deaths are unexplained but I'm thinking that means they just don't know if it was an accident or a suicide pact. I'd think it would be hard to usher three people onto the tracks to kill them with the train. But I guess it could happen. Are they trying to determine if they were killed by the train or placed on the tracks after they were already dead?

I'm going to go with "too stupid to know how trains work" for now.
