Disaster Three people killed by train in South London - STRIKE!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-44520759

Three people have died after being struck by a train near Loughborough Junction in south London.

The deaths are being treated as "unexplained" and police said inquiries are being carried out to establish how they came to be on the tracks.

Emergency services were called to the station, near Brixton, at about 07:30 BST to reports of multiple bodies.

London Ambulance Service paramedics attended, but the three people were pronounced dead at the scene.

Det Supt Gary Richardson, from British Transport Police, said his "thoughts are with the family and friends of these three people".

"My team are now working hard to understand what happened and how these three people came to lose their life on the railway," he added.

How the fuck are the deaths being treated as unexplained if a train hit them? GG BTP!

It speaks pretty low of these 3 people that, by getting run over by a train, they have proven they are DUMBER than Len Shaner, whose at least managed to not get run down by a train despite a lifetime of autistic and blubbery wandering through railyards.

British trains.

Like Shaner would go to Britain on a plane.

True. I wanted it for a moment to be Shaner - he's been quiet recently, and I miss his special brand of stupidity. It's something Shaner would totally do if he had the money or attention span though.

We all know why

Also, ban all assault trains.
Ban all hard questions.
Oh wait, Europe wants to do that already. Don't worry, the government will take care of you.

Trains are pretty fast and heavy. Even if it was ten people, they'd have all exploded into a fine red mist if the train was going fast enough.
It really only disrupts the service for as long as it takes to hose off the tracks.
Hosing off trains before maintenace used to be my job. Regularly there were trains who had hit a herd of reindeer. Usually all that was left was bloodspatter and some fur. Sometimes thered be large meatchunks and even antlers stuck in them. We even had one come in with a stomach hanging off the plow.

Trains didnt give a fuck though, it was just annoying to the mechanics.

A railroad locomotive weighs in the vicinity of 100 to 150 tons, or 300,00 pounds.

An adult human weighs in the vicinity of 180 to perhaps 220 pounds if they're the chunky sort. Even if all 3 of them were, that's only a grand total of, say 600 pounds in the way.

300,00 >600 , it's going to roll right over that like your car rolling over a stack of graham crackers.

Organics are just too "squishy" to derail a train

Train crew in Canada and the northern US routinely run over moose without issue.
It's more like 150 to 200 tons for a freight loco and 80 to 100 for a passenger carrying railcar but other than that I agree.

Well, to prove the point, here's a train crew in Canada just casually driving over downed trees following a snowstorm, for fun.... the camera doesn't even shake. A person would be nothing, you probably wouldn't even hear a "thud".

This is still one of my "favorites" This person is in a high-speed chase with police, and slams into a train at 60+ mph trying to beat it at a crossing, despite taking all that force, directly perpendicular to it's line of travel, there isn't a derailment. The crew didn't stop because they probably didn't even feel it... and then the person who hit the train, their bad day just gets worse....

We've had wagons that derailed at the back of the train, but the front half of the train was okay, and the drivers didn't notice that a 40 or 50 tons of deadweight were just being dragged and scraped along on their side because it didn't make any difference to the performance of the locomotives at all. Also seen a toyota land cruiser 4wd that got parked across a level crossing by some kids, and it got blown apart like it was nothing - we had to replace the cow-catcher and a couple of air hoses on the lead loco, and the shunting bell got ripped off because it was mounted right behind the headstock, and that was the only significant damage.

I see people trying to nip across a level crossing when the barriers are coming down all the time and it amazes me how people have no sense of danger around railways.

I picked the poll option for 'idiots on a shortcut', but now I would say without hesitation these were criminals who just committed a bank robbery, and they were arguing/tussling over the money when BLAM! Train o'clock. It will no doubt be a mystery until a rookie rail cop stumbles onto the money and then with the help of a grizzled potentially dirty detective he foils the diamond robbery and puts those responsible behind bars.

Unfortunately, they won't believe the little old lady who says that she knows where the loot is, and as a result, the case will never be solved.

how the fuck does a train hit someone, let alone 3 someones, without derailing unless they were being huge dumb-asses?
Humans are squishy as fuck and tend to detonate like bags of pink mush when hit by a train. It takes a lot to cause 2000 tons of metal going 70mph to go anywhere except exactly where the fuck it wants to go. Couple that with the fact that train wheels are like blades and will joyfully slice through anybody that goes underneath them. There are all sorts of urban myths about trains being derailed by bits of gravel and pennies on the line and shit like that but the truth of the matter is that if you want to take out a train you need to wedge an iron bar or something across the tracks and even then there's a reasonable chance the forces involved will just send the bar scything through the air hard enough to split trees in half.
