🐱 ABC drops Roseanne show after racist tweet

ABC has pulled the plug on the revival “Roseanne.”

The move comes after series star Roseanne Barr made a comment on Twitter Tuesday morning referring to former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett as the offspring of the “Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes.”

“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said in a statement.

Barr deleted her tweet about Jarrett not long after posting it. She followed it up with an apology which read, “I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste. I am now leaving Twitter.”

The revival of the classic sitcom was set to air a 13-episode eleventh season this fall. The move represents a remarkable turn of events for the network, Barr, and a show that finished the season as the No. 1 scripted primetime television series in the 18-49 demo, according to Nielsen live-plus-same say numbers.





Just two weeks ago at ABC’s upfront presentation, Barr introduced Disney-ABC Television Group president Ben Sherwood, joking that he was “the guy responsible for most of my tweets.” Sherwood and Barr hugged onstage, and the the exec noted that ABC had not had television’s No. 1 show in 24 years. Dungey, during her portion of the presentation, bragged that “The premiere ratings even took us by surprise,” claiming that 1 in 10 Americans has seen the “Roseanne” revival premiere.

Agreed. Goodman can also do more voice acting if his proper acting career takes a small dip, Disney will certainly want him around for voicing Sully if they do anything with Monsters Inc. and if said project is worth the paycheck they'll have to give him.

While it was mentioned that other people are affected by this, unless they were Roseanne they are likely to bounce back and find another gig, hopefully soon. Roseanne other the hand is likely to have this heat on her for a while.

Not exactly. Square Enix and Disney revealed the English VAs playing Mike and Sully in KH3 at a recent event, they're both being voiced by soundalikes that Disney has used for other non-movie things involving the characters. Conflicting schedules and other issues may have played a role in the soundalikes being used but Disney/Pixar stuff has a tendency of getting other VAs if the fee for the original is too high for the project's budget or if they're focused on other projects.

I hope there's some way to crowd fund another season. I really liked it and Roseanne was sorry. When I looked at the pic of the woman being insulted she was racially ambiguous, so it could be an honest mistake. Either way she's old and mentally ill and apologized almost immediately. My own parents, when Hazzard was being released, forbade me and my brother from watching it because they broke laws and Uncle Jesse was a moonshiner. Guess what show we programmed the VHS to record and watched when they weren't around?
