General Wrestling Discussion

Elimination Chamber was bretty gud... and Monday Night Raw's been damn entertaining the last couple weeks too.

Smackdown on the other hand is the worst it's ever been :(

Everyone saw the Men's Elimination Chamber match outcome, but the woman's was good. I'm amazed Sasha Banks didn't kill herself or someone else. rest of the card was just RAW matches.

I think the writers and bookers for Smackdown just gave up because there's no money coming in for shows, I blame Road Dogg for that. Abyss makes for a better creative person than he does.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (via Wrestlezone), here is the latest on how WWE views Braun Strowman and the decision to stick with Reigns vs. Lesnar at WrestleMania.

The Elimination Chamber was booked in a way where Roman would win but Braun would look as strong as possible by eliminating everyone but Reigns. Vince McMahon reportedly sees Braun Strowman as the ideal pro wrestler, because of Strowman’s combination of size as well as his ability to do WWE styled comedy effectively, which is something that Roman Reigns has not been able to do as well. WWE also feels that Strowman has also noticeably improved as an in-ring worker and now has the crowd behind him.

WWE could have changed direction and gone with Lesnar vs. Strowman at WrestleMania, but they chose to stay the course. WWE has been protecting Lesnar’s F-5 so that it means more when Reigns kicks out of it at WrestleMania.

I like Strowman, but I think he woulda been p awesome back in 1980s NWA. WWE has gone past the cartoony-ness and just into this dumb silly area where it is a pain to watch it half the time.

Yeah, I have to admit that the over-the-top angles are a bit of a turnoff. Every wresting fan understands the importance or suspending their disbelief, but there are times where the WWE abuses it.

It's cool to see Braun tip over an ambulance but it actually ends up becoming a detriment to the character. This is a man who can tip over vehicles without showing any signs of exhaustion after the fact. He can survive a full on collision with a truck and can withstand the immense pressure of a garbage compactor.

But he can be beaten with a running tackle and a punch to the face.

:story:

Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso discussed Brock Lesnar’s absence from RAW in his weekly update, he reports that even though Brock Lesnar was scheduled to be on this week’s episode of RAW, that WWE has used up all of Lesnar’s contractual dates with the company.

“The PWInsider report from Mike Johnson that Lesnar was scheduled to be at RAW are accurate, but the Universal Champion is already over his contractual dates. Lesnar is also aware that he is losing the title to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania, and Lesnar is far more interested in discussing his next contract than being a team player on his prior deal.”

whoops sounds like lolWWE forgot that Lesnar isn't a mark like the rest of their independent contractors

Granted there's not much for people who matter in Impact that haven't worked LU or AAA, but a live LU official event doesn't happen often.

Not particularly sorry about double but whatevs.

What does it say about Impact's track record when my immediate thought upon seeing that image was "damn, what a step down for Lucha Undergroud"?

I'm pretty sure they already worked together at the Lucha World Cup events that Victoria sponsored, and TNA invaded AAA a while back.

But yeah it's not quite the same as it used to be.

Wasn't there a period of time when Impact was must-see television? Back when Bobby Lashley was their champion and having matches with Bobby Roode and Kurt Angle.

"must-see" is probably a little bit much, but yeah they had a pretty solid run for a while. Bobby Lashley in particular was a lot better than you'd expect if you only knew his WWE work.

I'm waiting for Strowman to flip the ring and my days of watching wrestling will be complete. He would have destroyed the cages they used in the 1980's and probably got more over than Hulk Hogan. Hell his "theme" of rawr is more over than most of the roster.

You could even make the Heart Punch his finisher and we could have a new Ox Baker, he has that feel about him.

Like tell me you don't see Strowman doing something like this

Recently getting into watching New Japan Pro and i'm liking it so far, Pretty entertaining and i love some of the wrestling there. I was thinking about checking out TNA and seeing if it changed either for the better or worse. Is WWE still crappy? How is NXT?

Bad Luck Fale is the man. TNA has lost all of it's stars and helping to kill the new company that owns it. WWE has been pretty bad, usually more downs than ups (such as Fastlane tonight) NXT's shows tend to be good but their Takeover shows are where it's at.
