Billy and Mandy was the best cartoon of the mid 2000s. It certainly holds up better than most kids' cartoons; I binged some episodes a while back and I was legit surprised it was considered to be a kids' show. It was borderline Adult Swim at times and it's a shame no one really talks about it.

Maybe it's just me, but I haven't seen that many people on the Internet talk about it and not a lot of people I know are all that into the show. It's the weirdest thing, it's like they'll say, "Oh I remember that show," but then I realize they barely remember it.

It was similarly based on the look Mike Judge had used previously on Beavis & Butt-head, perhaps a lot more anatomically accurate in some respects. Bobby Hill reminded me of a friend of my brother's if he had short hair as a kid.
Sometimes these things do take their time to blossom.
I suppose it was one of those "acquired taste" kind of things. I personally admit I never did watch the series at all, but I was already in my 20's at the time and simply didn't care to watch what CN had out at the time.

Yeah, I wasn't into B&M and I sure as fuck ain't now... I always preferred Courage the Cowardly Dog more - too bad it's been years since I've seen both; I just know what I have more fond memories of, personally.

I enjoy John R. Dilworth's stuff myself, Courage was pretty well made for a creepy show, but I also enjoy shorts like this...

Who knows, can't say it's the same logic that kept Spongebob alive. Of course Butch Hartman did stick around with Nick for most of that time, while creating other shows.

I heard that it was supposedly popular in Latin America, which would explain why Nickelodeon kept renewing it. Don't quote me on that, though.

Pixar is the single most overrated studio in the history of animation and modern Disney are extremely overrated as well.
I will never not be fucking salty over how vastly superior works in award shows get shafted because there is some mediocre Pixar or Disney film in the mix. How Big Hero Six won an Academy Award over Song of the Sea or Kaguya or even How to Train Your Dragon is just absolutely mind boggling.

Every time you say that Ogre's name, All Star comes up in someone's playlist.
Also, Disney hasn't made a truly great animated film since Mulan. With that in mind, "I'll Make a Man out of You" is pretty epic, especially the Jackie Chan-sung version.

If they had done better work on The Princess And The Frog (I do like it, honestly but it has too many flaws) it probably could have at least improved things. I think the last Disney film I genuinely enjoyed was Tangled and that was what? 8 years ago now?

Princess and the Frog, for its flaws, has one core element that is truly wonderful, and that's Keith David in the villain role. He's a pretty damned wonderful actor.

Disney and Pixar will never come to what the Disney renaissance was. They're better off selling out their old material. As much as I enjoyed The Princess And The Frog, most of the music was mediocre. Were there any other good songs besides Friends on The Other Side and Almost There? Keith David stole the show but was underused. It kind of loses its touch after Tiana turns into a frog.
I love Enchanted as well from 2007....but that doesn't really count because it's a live action film.

Forgive me if that was a rhetorical statement, but Big Hero 6 won because most of the Academy voters openly disdain animation, and there are members who literally vote for Disney/Pixar to win every year because "eh, it's Disney/Pixar, it's probably good" or "my kids liked this one and I've never heard of these other films".
That said, I won't mind terribly when Coco inevitably wins this year if it means avoiding the phrase "Academy Award winner Boss Baby". (Although my personal favorite is Loving Vincent, but the odds of that winning seem slim even if it's the most beautiful and technically impressive movie of the bunch...)
