In studies, pedophiles show signs that their sexual interests are related to brain structure and that at least some differences existed in their brains before birth.

I went to therapy on my own accord because sometimes its nice just to have a second opinion and you can talk about nitty gritty bullshit with. So some weeks if I have a good week I still go because its nice to speak your mind with out being judges and or like I said "Having a second opinion".

I didn't mean to put it as "child porn = good" I meant it more as if they do watch child porn they should be given the option even in jail to go to therapy so when they get out they won't re offend. You are all being reactive instead of proactive. The reactive part is already done by the law. The proactive part has nothing to prevent it at fucking all

Honestly, this whole "give them therapy" schtick sounds like it'd quickly turn into the revolving door scenario seen in Batman comics with Arkham Asylum. Any adept sociopath could fake their way to getting "cured" slapped on their record if the administration were incompetent or, shall we say, "sympathetic" enough. Not to mention the strain such a thing would have on the economy, spending tax dollars on therapy for such offenders. There's also the issue that a mental disorder cannot be cured, only treated, so what are the chances of relapse for first time offenders who exit the prison system early through a therapy program? Then you're also setting the precedent that pedophiles, in general, can operate like decent people. It'd ultimately be no different than the Hollywood way of dealing with scandals: go to a rehab spa and come out the exit proclaiming to be cured.

All that's going to happen if everyone switches to gently suggesting that pedoing is a distasteful, archaic, slightly problematic spot on a sexual spectrum, and not a real cause of real harm to actual children, is that pedos are going to take a mile, since you handed them an inch. Pedos have been begging everyone to move to that model for ages. They will not be motivated to enter into effective therapy, for their not-that-bad mere-thoughtcrimes poor-misunderstood-paraphilias, because that therapy doesn't even exist.

In a perfect world, pedos would be dealt with appropriately and quickly.

In the world we are stuck with, they have to occasionally hear that people want to castrate them and throw them into into a pit of snakes and acid, but usually, no one ever actually does that. They occasionally get busted and end up in jail, but really, not even that often. Most pedos run free.

What I would change today is moving to a more "castrate and throw into a snake pit" system.

What we have is your much-less-effective system of deterrence, where there is some unfounded notion that talk therapy will cure what ails them.

Yeah, where exactly is the proof that therapy modalities available today can reduce paraphilic behavior?

This is like when people think borderlines should go to therapy to cure what ails them. The vast majority of therapies tried on BPD people don't work, and many of them can actually get worse because of being able to manipulate their shrink. Or when people think physically abusive men should go to "mediation" or "couples counseling" sessions with their abuse victims. There are people who are so keen to violate the most basic and important tenets of morality and decency that they cannot in any way be trusted to do the internal work required to genuinely change in therapy.

That's the same dilemma as with death penalty. Investigations should be accurated and thorugh to reduce and eliminate the risk of wrongful executions.
