Yeah, I know Buzzfeed sucks, but my sister showed me this and I had to share it:

There have been rumors throughout the years — like the recent one that the author might be Handbook for Mortalswriter Lani Sarem.
Then, on Aug. 2, a statement was published to a FictionPress account that claimed to belong to the author of "My Immortal."
Then, on Aug. 27, another update was published — this one stating plainly and simply, "No, I am not Lani Sarem."

The internet sleuths went to business. Tumblr user pipistrella theorized that the author in question was YA novelist Rose Christo, who has a memoir — Under the Same Stars — in the works with Macmillan's St. Martin's Press.
Pipistrella pointed to a screenshot that seemed to show Christo logged into the FictionPress account that published the statements.
Christo responded to the rumors via her Tumblr, claiming that "Macmillan Publishers hired a lawyer to vet [her] over the course of three days," and that she provided proof as to her connection to "My Immortal" as well as other events included in the upcoming memoir.

Alrighty, he posted a pic of kiwis on his facebook that was started in 2014 so unless hes here for an incredibly long con, hes our new baby brother. Say Hi! everyone.
Thank you, friend, as well as yawning sneasel.

To wit, the ease with which a simple Google or Facebook search of my name would let her "find me" should tell you what a nonsensical load of histrionic shit the premise of her memoir is.

Can't blame her for trying to cash in on My Immortal, I suppose.

I'll be straight with you all - visit her tumblr. I hate to say this of my own blood, but she's a lolcow in and of herself because of how far she's taken some lies (particularly being Native American, holy fuck).

At the risk of shattering the beautiful illusion of My Immortal's legendary status, I really am super curious about all of this now simply because of how fucking insane it is that the author's brother just so happened to have been here for years. Problem is I just don't know where to begin to ask outside of "How'd you know My Immortal was written by your sister if you were separated for years by then?".

I still can't believe she'd dare write a memoir about it, though. That should piss everyone off and not just those who were closest to her. Luckily, given how much of a niche fanfiction is (even on the Internet), her book sales were most likely not going to be huge to begin with (unless it's staying digital), but it's still stupid.

Sorry, I should have made this clearer, but I had no idea.

Two days ago, a close friend alerted me to the fact that my long-lost sister was writing a memoir built on a fabricated quest to find me. I just happened to be Googling about her revelation, astounded by how many articles she generated by revealing herself as this fanfic author (and contemplating contacting those articles' authors to tell them that they were being misled), when I saw one of the search results was my favorite forum to lurk having a thread on the revelation.

We're getting quite in-depth. Perhaps she truly does warrant her own thread at this point.

I can believe your story, but I still don't really believe she wrote My Immortal.

But, if you do, you mind telling us why you think so? Do you have any evidence, anything you knew about her, that leads you to think she wrote it?

There's a few things, especially in the irony of her purposely-bad writing, but the most indicative to me and shortest to explain to you is the first-name of her pseudonym: Tara. She liked to call herself that in our youth. Rose isn't her real first name (it's her middle name), by the way. Terry is.

Is the Child Porn thing true? Because if she's lying about something so serious, that's pretty fucked up.
This is where it gets very, very, very in-depth with a lot, and I mean a lot of familial mental illness and insanity involved.

The long-story short is "no," but it is a *very* long story as to how she truly believes she was (and due to the aforementioned insanity, I really don't think I blame her for that belief). I can go into very great detail, but are you sure you wish for me to in this thread? We've truly ventured very deeply into her backstory at this point.

Exactly how awful is her grocery store paperback series that she had to fall back on My Immortal?
Heh. Her writing isn't spectacular, admittedly. It's decidedly average and cliche. I read a few e-versions of her books yesterday.

By the way, I say "admittedly" because it's a shame, in my mind, that she's not spectacular. I mentioned earlier that she was brilliant for her age in youth. A pretty messed-up childhood seems to have instilled in her a predilection for exaggeration and self-pity instead of letting her reach her full potential.

But perhaps that is my own bias speaking - long-lost though I might be, I still am her brother, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't still love her in some form.

I still don't get how she thought this would help her find you. Unless I misread some of the explanations. Was it the reveal that was supposed to find you? It's kind of a long shot. There are tons of troll fics out there and just because it's epic doesn't mean it will get famous.

How do we know she's not just saying she wrote My Immortal? With so much time passed with no one really coming forward who could be verified it's easy to take the credit if your story is better than the last person's and you have some marginal clout. However, it doesn't look like anyone is coming forward to refute those claims. But if I wrote that fic maybe I wouldn't want anyone to know either.

*Editing because I missed the post where I was quoted.*

So you were never in foster care? I don't get this woman's mentality. It's one thing to mistake what happened to a sibling. But it seems like she's made up fanfiction about her own life. Which is truly exceptional.

I'm thinking she thought the whole thing was stupid at first then when it blew up she let it stew for years and did the big reveal for publicity. And it's not even some epic anonymous literature. It's a hilarious troll fic.
