Undertale / Deltarune / Toby Fox Discussion

I'm tired of game theories. I have game theory fatigue. I don't care about Dess. I don't care about any of your mysteries. I will just ignore your bullshit until you say something substantial. Keep trying to earn my attention, I just won't care about it. When are we going back to traditional storytelling, with informative dialogue and readable character motivations?
Never, because being straightforward doesn't drive engagement metrics.

Found the seth tweet lol

One of the main sources of fan fallout from Ch. 5 is that it was just a fun adventure and didn't reveal any major plot points or darker aspects of the story that we were all expecting.

This has already been discussed to death so I won't comment on it, but all I'll say is that I'm very sympathetic towards Toby's motivation for making the chapter like this.

Think about it, he's closing in on the tail end of his (literal, fever) dream game, scenes of which have been bouncing around in his brain for over a decade now. Chapters 6 and 7 are 100% bound to be heavy in both the emotions and lore departments, the same way Undertale was. Toby obviously enjoys this aspect of his works, but he likes funny/silly/lighthearted adventures just as much, if not more so. After all, there would be little motivation to replay Undertale to try and get the best ending if the characters weren't both fun and memorable.

Chapter 5 was literally Toby's LAST opportunity, probably for a very long time, perhaps forever, to create an adventure with his favorite characters that doesn't take itself too seriously.

As a player I find it annoying but I can't fault Toby for taking advantage of that final opportunity.

1.) Dude's a fucking millionare with infinite money, popularity and goodwill. He can just make more.

2.) He already released 3 other chapters that are a an adventure with his favourite characters that doesn't take itself too seirously.

3.) It was his choice to put it after chapter 4.

4.) What you're describing is self indulgence and its the worst vice a writer can have.

5.) There was no opportunity, opportunity implies an opening, there was no opening, he just forcefully shoved it in there even if it didn't fit.

1.) Yes he can make tons of spinoffs with his characters if he wants to, but he'll only have one game to make his fever dream ending in.

2.) Yes because that's what he wants to do. Based on UT, Toby wants to have as much fun as possible before diving into the dark stuff. Ch5 is him doing that.

4.) I'd argue that Toby 'indulging' his weird ideas is why he has made two bestselling games.

5.) I'll believe in Toby for now that Ch 5 will fit in the grand scheme of things.

Then make it longer? Nobody forced him to have 7 chapters and pace them like shit.

Ok, if he wants to pace the chapters like absolute dogshit more power to him, but that doesn't change the fact that they are paced like absolute dogshit.

Toby made two best selling games because he had an established fanbase going off homestuck for undertale and and established fanbase going off undertale for deltarune. Success is not proof of quality. Deltarune is extremely succesful but so far its the equivallent of the force awakens where its literally nothing but mystery boxes and people praise it based on what they are hoping its going to be not what it actually is.

Believe in the Weiss brothers for game of thrones finalle bro, they totally got it!

Believe in the Duffer brothers for the stranger things finale bro, they totally got it!

Believe in kripke for the boys finale bro, he totally has it!

Believe in juju abrams bro, he's totally gonna fix the rise of skywalker!

Its literally this meme. Shitty writing doesn't ambush you, it creeps up over time, the writing is ALWAYS on the wall. ALWAYS.

Nobody watching the 3 shows I mentioned above that wasn't a total retard was surprised by the shit endings because it was apparent for multiple seasons they were going downhill. A competent writer doesn't suddently turn shit and a shit writer doesn't suddently turn competent.

Which "multiple seasons"? DELTARUNE was on an upward trend until this. The previous chapter was chapter 4 which everyone loved.
Toby's history is making a world renowned game that got him official recognition from Nintendo.

"Upward trend" is putting it very gently. Chapters 1 and 2 were well received. Chapter 3 is 99% filler with dogshit boring minigames, chapter 4 was very well received.

From the baseline of 1 and 2 we had 1 bum chapters, 1 good one, and now we have another bum one.

Quoting myself again:

So, that's just an entire game and over half of the current one.
Your quote is meaningless. He had an established fanbase from his quality work on Hussie's franchise. He continued that with quality work on his own franchise. How is that some sort of gotcha?
You bring up The Force Awakens. A piece of media that - once again - was standing on the shoulders of a quality franchise that people liked.

So, that's just an entire game and over half of the current one.
Fucking up the third act is more impactful than fucking up the second act. When the game is 70% over and it still hasn't revealed shit like "what is the motivation of the protagonist" and "what is the motivation of the antagonist" and "who is the antagonist" that's a bigger issue than a dragging midpoint.

I've seen the pilot to homestuck. Calling that writing quality is like calling family guy subway surfer tiktok edits cinema. He got in early at a very young, very stupid and very impressionable fanbase that followes him everywhere.

Yeah, and deltarune is standing on undertale, and undertale is standing on homestuck. The only difference being that starwars is actually good.

That's Vivziepop's work. Toby did some voice acting where he yelled a racial slur but that's it.
You can't even articulate what following Toby had from Homestuck. He was a well known musician on the original comic.
If Toby's success is so unearned - where are all the other Homestuck success stories? That project had an entire army working on it and yet for anything else even vaguely connected to it - it's like the kiss of death.
Yeah, and deltarune is standing on undertale, and undertale is standing on homestuck. The only difference being that starwars is actually good.
And here's the real root of it all we've had to dig to.
Yes, we get it. You don't like the series. That's fine.
I don't see why you feel the need to impotently seethe about it for multiple pages without anything interesting to say.

Would you rather have troons or jeets make Deltarune ch 5?
Cishet Indians are always preferable to queers. I do not discriminate based on race.

The only reason Susie is even telling Noelle about the Dark Worlds NOW is because they made googoo eyes at each other, not because there's genuine trust there. Susie has no idea how Noelle is going to handle learning about the Dark Worlds, let alone how useful she'd be there.
I say that is neither, but rather Susie realising tha they needed backup. Noelle was the best choice, since she was not only familiar wi the Dark World but also the most compatible wi The Fun Gang while having some combat experience.

Not only that, but their relationship was LITERALLY FUCKING PROPHESIED. "Built on freedom" my asshole. Suselle is them falling into their predestined roles in accordance with their prewritten destinies in a magical all-encompassing prophecy. It's the polar opposite of being built on freedom.
That makes the Weird Route make more sense, since you are forcing Kris and Noelle to be with each other in defiance of the prophecy. A big theme through the Weird Route is you trying to make another ending no matter what, down to breaking the reality of the game and Sequence Breaking.

Freedom is when you do things that mommy and daddy hate.
There is also how society i still cisheteronormative, if only because that is the way humans naturally operate. There is also an intersection with Christianity, which is inherently cisheteronormative, and spread through the world to the point of being the foundation of many societies, including not only the United States, but also England, Canada, Australia, nd s on, even if the society is currently getting secular. These people want 'freedom' from not only cishet norms but also cultural Christianity.

That is the reason why I tend to avoid game theories about deltarune, specially since they are going to be disproved.
Then again, I fel the urge of speculating abou the Weird Route skipping the Shadow Crystal in Chapter 5...

kris cuts his own image in half, just like how the angel gets a diagonal slash. oh shit i might actually be onto something.
Kris enthusiastically chose 'Perish' instead of 'Bosom' in Chapter 2.

I'm confused, what do you want me to articulate? He had an established name and fanbase and they followed him to his new project. Yeah other people worked on it but they were massively more incompetent. Being a mid writer that lucks out isn't something unordinary. Juju abrams literally built a hollywood career on it.

Quit being a faggot and go change your dilator.

Other than the single video I linked earlier I have literally not posted in this thread for like 20-30 pages, you are so mad with rage at someone making fun of your troonslop you are literally hallucinating stuff to get even more mad at.

Noelle spent 90% of her time in the DW either imprisoned or scared shitless and the only time she has genuine combat experience is when she's with Kris, which Susie never saw. Meanwhile the GOAT was literally a boss that went toe to toe with the entire fun gang multiple times. Berdly_overworld_static_Dark_World.webp

Toby Fox was not a writer on Homestuck. You claimed that he was somehow responsible for the writing of the animated series made by Vivziepop. Read your own post.
I have literally not posted in this thread for like 20-30 pages
Yes, last Tuesday. Less than a week ago.
You have a combined 6 pages of posts on a game you claim to dislike and not care about.
