no he is not. He doesn't know +- frames, counters, he can't reliably execute combos, his sf6 gameplay is the same patterns since the release of the game, he is blocking while pushing action buttons (this is his frustration when he whines "I was blawcking"), he can't even advance from scrubcore, let alone struggling for weeks and months to reach master with some of the characters.
Check one of j. wong's stream. These are both oldfarts in SF. JWong plays sf while reading chat and replying to chat, it's a second nature to him.
Phail struggles while playing sf, any sf.

Also no on the second part. PoP was playing 6 months and he beat phail in 3/4 of the games they matched together. PoP playted cammy, according to him, because she has a nice ass, not because she is a counter pick to anyone phil plays.

Please correct me or educate me on that. I did some search 1-2 years ago, when phil was still playing sf6, because I saw a few former competitors to phil who claimed the same and the statements didn't reflect what I saw.
I saw phil playing some broken and mostly top tier characters, i.e. bison, t hawk, sagat, blanka, vega in those older games, he peaked once at 4rth place on a very special ocassion with a game everyone shits upon, he didn't have multiple years being up there.
This reminds me the 2005 USA F1 grand prix

If phil participated in the USA 2005 grand prix with his shitbox, he would have been 7th place.

If you show someone phil's gameplay of sf and tell him that this guy plays this game for 30 years, they won't believe you.
If you can somehow watch any of Phil's SF6 gameplay, you would get this exact confirmation that you said. What do I mean by that... well, that a good bit of his wins are when the other player whiffs on something and was 1 move away from winning. Phil never acknowledges when others mess up, only when the game "drops his inputs".

BTW even on that point, you can tell when he fucks up his inputs. Blanka balls that turn into just a jump are him doing sloppy inputs. When he did the wrong Zangief super, he was either flubbing the 360 inputs or doing it in the wrong direction, which is why "I didn't want level 1/level 2". He also learned 1, maybe 2, Blanka combos and has no idea when to actually attempt them, just that 1) Phil is attempting this super so 2) the game should give it to him no questions asked. It's like playing COD and saying "I was aiming at his head" therefore the game should give you a headshot not taking into account that you actually have to pull that off not want to pull it off, especially when we know Phil usually shoots shadows, the floor, or at their feet.

I know we're told to never pozload my negholep, but after RawPhil got taken down and Phil's retarded gloating for the past two weeks, he fucking deserves a massive gay op up his ass. Fucking swat this fucking nigger or at least crash a small airplane into his gay middle unit condo(m). Phil deserves divine intervention of the nigger kind.

Phil couldn't tell you the difference between Pokemon types, let alone final fantasy games.
And butcher reading the names of them too.

Phil couldn't tell you the difference between Pokemon types, let alone final fantasy games.
The difference between FF games is simple: The ones that he remembers from his teens are timeless classics, the ones before then are half baked, the ones after then are overrated slop and he is the only one willing to say it.

THIS IS WHAT PHIL ACTUALLY BELIEVES

phil only seems decent at fighting games when its new when he rushes to stomp people still learning mechanics or new to fighting games, this boosts his ego till he is high off his own farts. Then once people learn and adapt (something phil never does) and the people who started playing because they found interest in the game either also adapt or leave because fighting games is a dying genre and the barrier to entry is retarded, All thats left to fight or people who live and breath these type of games and he cant keep up and the nyou get to see how much of a shitter he is at the genre he claims to love.

Phil is a noob check. The reason he can pubstomp up to a certain level is because he basically uses all the tactics that gatekeep a casual from a more serious player. If you are anyone halfway familiar with fighting game mechanics, if you pick up any decent "combos for x character" and just memorize them you can also just beat up on scrubs. What separates scrubs from skilled players is they know how to play to their characters' strong distances, respond to, and mix up against PATTERN PLAYERS like Phil. Ironically, Phil himself cannot grasp this idea which is why his go-to excuses are "random wakeup supers, always safe on x, mayush jab, lag exploit" etc.

He's the guard of the noob gate. You beat him and you go to greener pastures.

I hope you're all excited today to hear him copy-paste the exact same rant we've heard fifteen hundred times about Mahdern Fighting Games and how they're ALL FLAYUSH and NO SUBSTANCE! Maybe some rollback netcode slander on the side.

It's a shame he skipped the Avatar fighting game that just came out, it seems like it has a surprising amount of depth and that one really would have had potential to make him smash his hooves against that Rolls Royce of fightsticks.

Phil treats fighting games like everyone is supposed to be a pattern player because that's what he is. He wishes everything was PS1 Super Turbo because it was a flawed port that no one played and that is how he got fourth place at EVO. Also you can tell he's been watching a lot of LTG/LTG detractor vids (and not just from his own admission) because, over the past year or so especially, he poorly emulates Dale's shit-talking, shitty zoning/projectile spam, and ragequit disconnects, even in non-fighting games (case in point: how he handles invasions in DS2).

Phil complains about pattern players, but he obsessively follows simple patterns in every fighting game and spams them. He does almost no labbing. While pattern recognition is important, a fighting game character gives you a toolkit rather than a series of moves recalled through rote memorization. A good player adapts to what his opponent is doing and takes steps to keep them guessing.

Phil has no patience and no ability to adapt to or judge a decent player's moves, and, much like how he plays Souls games and basically everything else, veers between doubling back and spamming projectiles and facetanking it until he wins. He doesn't use neutrals, he doesn't bank meter. He's happiest when he can force his opponent against a wall and spam until he wins.

He likes to veer between talking up his abilities and insisting he's not part of the FGC and his content is about vuh-rye-uh-tee, but this is cope. Phil's a filthy casual in every game because he is incapable of learning and likes games that demand nothing from him. It's why he "likes" Pokemon and JRPGs. Interacting with a series of menus and reading up on how to cheese builds is easier for him than reading opponents or how to adapt on the fly. That said, he also sucks at JRPGs.

It's just funny you figure ok 3rd time playing FF6 on stream you would maybe play the GBA version that has extra content but nope can't take 2 minutes to set that up so they are just gonna get what he gave you twice before but he is gonna be much more insufferable and talk about FF MTG every 10 minutes.

I''d say Phil is very slightly above average at fighting games, while he knows NOTHING about the mechanics of the games he plays because he no-lifed fighting games in his 20's he has a certain level of muscle memory. If he hadn't played any fighting games until SF6 he would be hard stuck at Bronze rank or he'd use Modern controls, no shade to people who use Modern controls, I also use them.

But like many people have said Phil thinks he is better than he actually is, he believes he should be playing people like Tokido, Daigo, Punk and Jwong regularly even if he loses. Because of this he gets easily tilted, he believes that he should be double perfecting all the low rank scrubs and the idea that they could even land a hit on him sends him into a tard rage like how dare these peasants try to beat me they should learn their place and lose.

If you go back to when Bison first came out in SF6 and Phil was dominating with him even reaching the mid 1600's he actually though he had made it, he was back to his prime, he thought he was going to surge in the ranks and finally play top players (so he could perhaps leech their audiences and name drop them in the video titles) but then Capcom reset the ranks and Bison was nerfed and he couldn't get past 1550 again.

I know more about the mechanics of fighting games than he does, especially SF6, I'm just shit at executing them, I know how to delay tech, I know how to shimmy and I know how to use Drive Reversal, all of these things Phil doesn't know how to use. During Tokon he was crying that other players were using Auto Combos while he was doing everything manually, what that means is instead of pressing light light light light auto special he's doing light light light light quarter circle forward light special and acting like what's hes doing is master level gameplay.

To sperg for a second I fucking loathe people like Phil who think simplified control schemes should not be allowed, that people who use them should have their own mode like a kiddy play pen because their ego's can't handle losing to that control scheme, it's the same with complaining about wifi like it's 2006 again, the majority of the internet is wifi most gamers use wifi, my wifi connection is faster and more stable than phils wired connection.

There is a reason why phil likes those fighting game collections, most people who play those games are playing them for nostalgia, they played them as kids and want to play them again after a day of work, they aren't good players just people having fun but phil likes these collections because he can stomp these people and it makes him feel good which is way he calls people cheaters when they beat him, like that null guy on one of the collections who plays honda.

In short phil is the epitome of a scrub who peaked 20 years ago when there was like 100 people who played these games seriously. Sorry for speging.

What ill always find funny is that every fighting game he plays he gets utterly destroyed no matter which series he is. He doesnt "practice", he just repeats the same string of attacks and hopes that in spamming it, will bring him victory. Like his life, he gets comfortable when the one thing he does works and disregard everything else because what matters is that he has it/does it.

It's a shame he skipped the Avatar fighting game that just came out, it seems like it has a surprising amount of depth and that one really would have had potential to make him smash his hooves against that Rolls Royce of fightsticks.

It also has an achievement that mocks him. Not that he could ever meet the requirement.

Phil is still decent at fighting games and most trolls can't beat him. People like raw playing cammy or other trolls took time and skill to do, a newbie can't touch phil,
And I know thats not what you said, but what fucks him up is his own expectations.
One hit and hes in that spiral of complain - lose focus - blame the other guy - next match. And it all goes the same way unless he wins.

Some might think this was always the same, but go back 5-7 years and yeah, he didn't sound as mad or misantrophic. He's legit dooming like you said, but age is not the main issue.
He wants to be so much above the level of others because "fighting games are what hes actually good at", and this ego is what fucks him.

If he legit tried to have patience with the game - and himself - he could improve. But if he could do that, he wouldn't be a lolcow, so.....
The thing isn't that Phil really sucks at fighting games, it's that he should be way better. It's been his thing for like 20 years and he's never managed to get better than "decent".

Yes I vividly remember Phil spamming Bison's broken ass Level 1 super that would do 2500 damage to most players and was easy to abuse. Not to mention he got to 1600 middle of the day during EVO, which is even funnier with the irony. I think he beat 1 player with a high rank and gained something like 50 MP. He never played Bison again after he got nerfed funny enough (he had rage quit the game when Terry came out).

Like others said too... Phil is the pattern player that he claims to hate. He comes into every match spamming the same moves/combos to get to a Level 3 that he barely even tries to set up correctly. He is never reactive, to the point where the people who played him a ton had him downloaded and figured out no matter who he used. It's also wild if you would watch a better Blanka vs Phil's Blanka, you would see techniques that Phil never used for 2 years.

The thing isn't that Phil really sucks at fighting games, it's that he should be way better. It's been his thing for like 20 years and he's never managed to get better than "decent".
Phil has been making videos for nearly 20 years and barely knows how to edit videos, makes thumbnails for retards and still hasn't even figured out how to do those (other than using AI now), and needed Darziak to handhold him into setting up OBS again, so much so that Phil didn't even know to replace Darziak's streamkey during the process. The way he functions, you'd think he was a boomer just getting into technology.
