its insane that the bar for immigrants has fallen to 'has some sort of culture and is recognizably human'. our forefathers were racist against italians. italians! what a luxurious, beautiful world where those are the guys youre trying to keep out of the neighborhood
The Italians were able to integrate and assimilate much quicker because ultimately Italian culture is a European culture, and therefore is far more compatible with the other European cultures (English, French, German, Dutch, etc.) that made up the bulk of what became American culture than, say, Indian culture. Italian culture has shared values, history, roots, religion, geography, norms, etiquette, and so on with the others. That is a very important factor to consider when looking at past immigration to America. Most of the immigrants were from Europe and had far more in common with one another than there were cultural differences. You simply can't say that with cultures like Indian, Pakistani, Africa, the Middle-East, etc. Even former colonies of European powers with all the cultural influences they received from being colonies have far too many differences to be compatible.
It also doesn't help when the immigrants aren't forced to assimilate and conform to the culture of their new home. Part of why immigrants in the late-1800s and early-1900s integrated so well in America, aside from coming from related cultures, is that cultural integration was enforced. There was no "multiculturalism". You either became Americans and learned English, or you were going to have a very hard time eeking out a living here. Sure, you had your little enclaves and neighborhoods where immigrants from the same country tended to live, which is where you get your Greek Towns, your Little Italies, your China Towns, etc. But even those places served to help newcomers assimilate by learning the ins and outs and cultural norms of America and learn to speak English from other immigrants who had been there longer and were more integrated. They were a little slice of home to help ease the newcomers into life in their new home before making their way elsewhere in the city/country. What they were NOT was Italian or German colonies where they could enjoy all the benefits of America without having to make any effort to assimilate and integrate. That unfortunately cannot be said of the immigrants and "asylum seekers" we have today where you have someone who has lived in America or the UK for decades and still can't converse in English. Your Learing Center Somalis and various Latinos, and now Indians and various Muslims who are taking over American cities in American states like Texas and converting them into cultural colonies.
This goes back to the lie of multiculturalism and racial/cultural universalism that claims all races and cultures are 100% equal and interchangeable. There is no magic soil that will allow you to pluck Sukhdeep from Dheli, drop him in Wyoming, and with enough time he will be just like any other heritage American who can trace his roots back to the Founding Fathers. Multiculturalism is a lie and a killer of nations. Eventually the various cultures will reach a critical mass and start to compete to become the dominant culture of the land.
I'm sure you've heard the old chestnut about "America is a cultural melting pot", right? The context it's often used in, it makes it sound like America is like a soup or stew simmering away inside a large soup pot, and every new culture that comes gets added and enhances the flavor, and that flavor is always changing. But that's not what the melting pot means. In it's original context, the "melting pot" was more like a blast furnace or a smelter, and the new cultures were like ore going into the smelter to be melted down and their impurities removed so that what was left over was the purity of conformity to the established American culture. The meaning behind the melting pot was purposefully manipulated and changed over time to reinforce the lie of multiculturalism and cultural universalism, just like the lie about America being "a country of immigrants". America was never a country of immigrants. America was always a country of Americans. The colonies that made up the first 13 states were mostly full of citizens who were native to this continent. They may have been colonialists and subject to England and other countries, but most of them had never set foot in the countries they were subject to. The United States was founded by mostly native North Americans who had conquered and colonized these lands. It was only later when the US had seized its independence and established it's own nation, it's own government, and it's own prosperity that the immigrants started coming. And while yes, we did take some cultural distinctions from those immigrants and added it to our own cultural identity (for example, many Irish immigrants went into law enforcement, and so many Irish traditions became traditions in American law enforcement), for the most part their original cultures were rendered down so that they became culturally American. That is what the melting pot originally meant, and like so many things it's meaning was perverted over time by those who wish to subvert ruin American cultural identity and replace it with lies.
