Fallout series

Im sure there's no point workshopping how to make 4s writing better but making Shaun some sort of unholy abomination of science like house, eden, or the master would've been far more interesting than just the "he's old now" reveal

Oh, that reminds me a Shaun Lives mod.

You can either healing him with the FEV, making him a super mutant or healing him completely with the Mysterious Serum.

Don't forget the original ending if you had Fawkes as a companion. Fawkes could get the GECK for you in the irradiated room in a previous mission but once at the Memorial he refuses to step in the chamber because it's the player's destiny.

I don't think there has ever been a game with an ending so shit that they had to go back and change it. The only thing that comes to mind is Mass Effect 3 and they didn't really "change the ending" they just added more context to it.

Actually Bioware just lowered the requerimients to get the best ending, which is just destroying the catalyst and surviving if you had a high level of war assets.
They fucked up the endings at release. EA really wanted to ME3 players to play the Multiplayer; but when the majority of people never touched that shit; shit happens.

imagine if there was a group of people that could go crazy at any second, for no reason at all, and just try to kill you and your loved ones
add on the fact said people are on drugs 24/7 to not go feral
I mean if you enjoy
>Go to location
>"Have you seen my dad?"
>"Why yes I have but you have to do something for me first before I'll tell you!"
>Rinse and repeat like 4 times

Then sure. You do you.
No but i am a fan of leaving vault 101 and heading directly to operation anchorage and then vault 112

Make Shaun younger (around the age of nate/nora) and have it so him letting his parent out of vault 111 was just step 1 in his plan to create the realistic synths we see in normal fallout 4.

Normally I'd criticize Operation Anchorage basically just being a CoD campaign but I do enjoy shooting things. Especially with Fallout's comically violent combat.
Plus it introduced a way to get power armor training without interacting with the Lyons Brotherhood so that's an automatic plus.

The whole premise was retarded. The Institute kidnapped a baby frozen in a vault because... reasons?

I think what really ruins 4s writing is that your character is pretty much put together and handed to you. He already has a name, served in the military, has a wife, owns a home in Boston, has a son, is voiced, and is over 200 years old after being put on ice. You get to choose how he looks and what his specials are. That's it.
If you were able to be some shmuck from out of town like FNV, then the rest of the story wouldn't be as miserable.

Something like Jimmy from Hardcore Henry would have been interesting. He's one man in some kind of computer set up, but he can control synths from the Institute, basically possessing their bodies. It would have made the synths an actual threat as well.

I really like Operation Anchorage being a cod campaign tbh it helps the dlc stand out compared to pitt, zeta, lookout and broken steel. It's also short and you get enough goodies as a reward for finishing it that i come out unable to truly hate it. I do find it funny that people treat it as a 100% serious and accurate look at the in universe anchorage campaign despite being created before the actual campaign happened.

Even new vegas has some details about the courier given to you but its not enough to truly ruin the courier being whatever you want him/her to be. Honestly people are just tired of the main character being a vaultie, 76 is probably the last time bethesda could do it

Not only would Fawkes refuse (despite being immune to radiation), but Sergeant RL-3 would also refuse (despite being a robot who is also immune to radiation), as would Charon (probably the most egregious as, being a ghoul, he is not only immune to radiation but actually healed by it).
NOT ONLY those two, but they have even less of an excuse- Charon was literally brainwashed into following orders no matter what, and RL-3 is a goddamn robot with roughly the same problem.

They had the opportunity and then instead made cybernetics a suppressed art.

Pure DNA requirement for the Retconned-In FEV-Based Gen 3 Synths.
It makes sense if you completely discard that they were literal fucking terminators in the previous Bethesda entry, and that the Institute had the tech to make cyborgs of similar performance BEFORE starting the synth project in earnest.

On the upside, you get to play such legends as Nate the Rake, but yeah it fucks up replayability (and roleplaying in general).
Not that it was exactly Emil's main concern... ever, but still.

What was the fucking point then? Making more with Broken Steel?
Lol no. Broken Steel only happened because the player base kept telling them the game's ending was completely shit, so they decided to sell an actual ending as DLC. Don't forget, they're the ones who gave us worthless horse armor DLC for Oblivion, and then later on mocked us for how shamelessly we give them our money with a horse power armor for FO4.

I will defend Emil a little bit with fallout 3's ending since its pretty obvious he just wanted to have a little bit of themes and such regarding the lone wanderer giving up his life for the greater good plus the bible quote that basically spells out what the ending is supposed to be about and the "you were born here you will die here" quote from the narrator meant to be about vault 101 actually being about the Jefferson memorial. However like everyone has already said its ruined by the fact you have multiple companions who could survive the rads and the player will probably not wanna sacrifice themselves out of a desire to keep playing the game so everything falls apart in the 11th hour.

Imagine if Bethesda actually replayed the previous entry in these franchises of theirs before starting work on the new entries just so they can remember the bare minimum of the world they fucking made. I remember watching venture bros and seeing the conversation online about how well the writers were able to wrap up plot threads alongside build upon the world then the writers just admit all they did was rewatch the previous season/seasons before starting work on then new one.

the ending of base game fallout 3 is fine, the bigger problem is not being allowed to keep playing after the fact which is somewhat confirmed by this quote from Alan Nanes
Alan Nanes:"The main inspiration was actually from feedback we received from the gaming community. People seemed a bit disappointed at the current ending for the game, since you were no longer able to explore the Wasteland when the Main Quest came to a close. Looking back at all our previous products such as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (which does not have a finite ending), we felt we should “open up” the ending to Fallout 3 and keep the Wasteland free to explore at all times."
Yeah broken steel does come with an objectively better ending for the main quest but being able to play after the main quest is a much more important feature added with BS

Fallout 4s bad writing is evergreen, when we are actually living in 2287 people will still be finding new things to rag on Fallout 4s writing for. The infinite possibilities Bethesda could have easily done with Shaun and The Institute are just a few of them. Shaun's reveal just being that he's a boring old guy is emblematic of the boring setting Bethesda made the Boston Commonwealth into.

I remember being a kid and playing The Replicated Man quest and it really fired up my imagination of what that place could be like. A civilization with not only the technology to create artificial life but also the resources to send agents hundreds of miles away into the depths of hostile territory to retrieve a single runaway android, but there's also an organized resistance against them with the resources to hide androids that far away and have embedded agents to safeguard them. When I heard Fallout 4 was going to be set in The Commonwealth I replayed 3 again and once again imaged that place. I thought The Commonwealth could be a technocracy ruled by immoral scientists and their legions of synthetic men enslaved to their will, maybe its leaders are crafting synthetic bodies for themselves so they can rule the wasteland as immortal god-kings and inherit the Earth. A mix of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep and the future war segments from Terminator. Fuck me was I in for a shock when F4 came out and I saw the setting was just another bombed out shithole with people eating dirt for fun.

Retards with no imagination getting high paying writing gigs is just not fucking fair bros *sigh*

becauase we gots broken steel after shitting on it, emil would never.

I guess that's made obvious by Fawke's quote in Broken Steel talking about how you changed his destiny, so it's only fair he change yours in return. Even if I still think it's stupid that the purifier is now conveniently irradiated to kill whoever turns it on because plot. (Yet somehow Liam Neeson causing an overload or whatever earlier to kill him and Autumn didn't damage anything but the battle with the Enclave did apparently?)

Also on the subject of endings, admittedly being unable to keep exploring the Mojave after the ending was one thing that really disappointed me with New Vegas as it did many other people. But sadly they wanted to allow players to keep playing but didn't have time to implement it. Not to mention console disc space being a factor and all that. Luckily modders to the rescue yet again. Functional Post Game Ending allows you to keep playing after the main quest. Then there's a separate mod Post-Game Dialogue Restored that adds back in the post-game dialogue found in the leaked New Vegas prototype. The actual FPGE devs claim they won't put that dialogue in their own mod on fear of being taken down or something but considering all of the mods based on prototype game content I don't think they give a shit but whatever.
