Are videogames for children?

Jesus Christ, they made that? Ew. No, it's the 2014 one where they replaced Garret with an edgy wannabe ninja who says "fuck" a lot and has a level in a strip club and every mechanic is dumbed down, and it's basically the worst excesses of mid '10s slop mixed with all the bad cliches of the late 00s for an overall experience that felt desperately pathetic in how hard it tries to be trendy and horrifically dated even for its time.

It was so bad that Dishonored 2 brought in Garrett's original voice actor as a humiliation ritual for Edios.
Amazing that we have just gotten through with an entire decade in which every single game has to have ugly chicks, niggers, faggots, and troons.

Why is it that Bandai-Namco remastered Baten Kaitos but hasn’t so much as thought about Xenosaga, their more popular Monolith Soft series? Is it the fact that the game’s name is too similar to Xenoblade for them to think it’s worth it?

So I was just browsing the free section of the xbox game store they are giving away the whole game of the remake of Call of Duty modern Warfare 2, no gamepass required or anything like that, just the full game completely free.

I have it downloading now.
I think that's just the DMZ beta. You still have to pay for campaign/multiplayer.

Speaking of CoD, I reached 10th prestige in MWIII.

Yep, spend foir hours downloading and the product description said it was the single player mode but then when I start it the game prompts me to buy the game.

They wasted a whole day of my time because it says you are getting the single player, I am so annoyed right now. No wonder Xbox is going bust.

So fucking sick of games that are over 50gbs as the standard. There's absolutely no reason they have to be this big other than dogshit optimization. Respect my time and space or don't get my money you cunt.

Yeah, this one was 80 gigs.

Good night my first computer in 96 only had a six gig hard drive.

The whole GTA 3 was only 1.2 gigs, learn to code!

It has nothing to do with repeating textures. It's mainly for asset streaming, particularly cross-platform, so performance will be fine across multiple build targets (and I guess it might help with the variety of hardware people might have just on PC too).
Size could be more optimised on a single platform, but why bother cramming a 150 gb game into 80 gigabytes if people are going to complain about an 80 gigabyte game anyaway.

Baldur's Gate 3 being 150 gigs on PC is genuinely baffling to me. Like why?

It's an okish looking game but it's hardly graphically stunning.
Optimization isn't needed when the toxic positivity of gamers will let you get away with anything as long as the game boots up. So just be a good little bitch and buy a 500 GB SSD for a single game. And stop being poor nigger, figure it out.

Tiling a texture instead of taking a megatexture approach saves enormous amounts of data. Tiles just look bad in outdoor areas. Also, obviously, a 2K texture takes 16x as much memory as a 512x512 texture.

I'm almost glad something like Ethnic Cleansing exists as is. Nobody took it seriously as a product, so its intent failed. Rather, it exists upon itself as how inept these sort of people are in creating anything remotely interesting or functional. The importance that Ethnic Cleansing and the like has is if people ignore and ridicule it, its message goes nowhere. I'm sure somebody could ironically MAKE a better game with that material with just a bit of competence and vision.
Moonman Doom technically qualifies, even if that was blatantly an attempt to go so far into extreme as to become parody.

Finished Chrono trigger since it was the latest Android port for the switch. Not a bad game. Surprised I managed all through with some of the quests.

Tonight I thought I'd try disco Elysium and during the intro thing the dr who phrase Allons-y! Irked me and set the mood for the game. Needless to say I'm trying out live a live right now.

I need some decent RPGs that are on the switch. In the mood for something story rich.
You should try the Front Mission remake if you have not already. The entire Etrian Odyssey classic trilogy is also on Switch, which will give you enough game for at least six months.

Fixing my sd card slot tomorrow morning when the replacement comes in. Hoping that's the only issue so far. It's either the SD card reader or a soldering issue.

I do recall Etrian on the 3ds, not sure I played it much (buddy recommended it when I told him how incredible legend of grimrock was and he recommended that as a dungeon crawler) , but that's been years so memory is wonky. I wouldn't have given Chrono trigger a chance many years ago, but recently it scratched an itch I didn't know I have.

Hopefully will check it out tomorrow. Already got them downloaded.

Yes, memory. But we're talking about storage. 16mb of uncompressed 2k pixel bytes might be two and a half megadoots with DX BC1 compression. Or it might be 21mb if you need it in raw RGBA8. It might be a hundred if you're storing it multiple times in different places for streaming rate optimisation.

We're not making games for the nintendo 64 so repeating textures are something you can avoid with a couple offset maps and blending in a shader either way.

Megatextures (or virtual texturing generally which I assume is what you mean) are a third thing and I don't think they've been in fashion for a minute anyway.
