Video Game Chat Thread - Pre-Alpha Experimental Version
Australia banning it, having it challenged, and re-banning it again anyway like three separate times on the same bullshit grounds is the highest endorsement it could have imo. Something about this satire of a zombie nanny state that's super invested in keeping people chemically lobotomised really upset them for some reason, it's a mystery.

I'm sure it didn't help that the game's premise is an allegory for the opioid epidemic and Australia's government is neck deep in that shit.
Great example: in this clip, Uncle Jack (the government's biggest propagandist) outright says that the town simply can't treat serious diseases anymore and tells people to just keep taking their joy to numb the pain.
Cool how Australia is one of the nations where pharmaceutical advertising is completely banned. Unrelatedly, I've walked into a pub bathroom in a random shitty town and every fucking non-mirror or pissing surface available was plastered with government posters telling people they should take their kids to a shrink. For their health. Hey lower classes, while we've got you in a diminished mental state, why haven't you gotten your children on pills yet? Think of the mental healths.
Like floor-to-ceiling and all over the inside of the cubicles in those indestructible poster frames, so you couldn't look away. I remember that every time someone mentions this game.
Water Park Simulator 1.0 will be out on July 31, and I read on Steam that they aren't planning to raise the price! $12.99 for that much content? In this economy!?
No. But I'll hammer together a quickie for you all. For old times' sake.
Because there's no way I can sustain an entire thread with this piece of ass candling.

When I reviewed Terfenstein 3D, and declared it one of the worst games I'd ever played, even by JPATG standards, I meant it. It's completely inept, with healing items that don't work, a complete lack of onboard support, a self-programmed engine that crashes if you backlist it in any capacity, a series of bugs I'd seen previously in Operation: Body Count, and utterly irredeemable level design. But there's something else I noticed during it, that I mentioned in passing during the review itself: It reminded me of a game I'd played before - and not merely because it's utterly incompetent.
Veterans of JPATG would logically come to the conclusion that I was referring to Smash MAGA, and they would be right, but there was another. One further back. One I played long before Let's Plays were a thing. Ethnic Cleansing. I remember finding a copy of the thing on an old Abandonware BBS back in the glory days of 56K dial-up, and even in the dark ages of PC gaming in the 90s, this thing was considered utter trash - something below those shitty white supremacist romhacks that excreted themselves onto the old Web 1.0 Internet. It was a fucking anomaly of the time - a game that shamelessly got published by the National Alliance, and while the actual programming mind behind it just wanted to make the most intentionally offensive game ever, the bulk of the people who actually liked this game and/or were involved in its creation took it very seriously, wanting to create something akin to a gamified version of the Turner Diaries.
Make no mistake: there is a contingent of people who took this fucking thing deadly seriously and, at the time, considered it the best and most relevant game ever.
....And yet fucking LOOK AT THIS THING. The draw distance is so bad that you have buildings teleporting in about 20 feet in front of you. The headbob is fucking migraine-inducing. The terrain clipping is horrendous. Enemies are barely animated. the gunplay is complete trash. Would you know a single fucking thing about this game if it wasn't for me referencing it earlier or some random Kiwi asking about it? The answer, of course, is no. But there's something very intriguing about this thing in that while it effectively comes from the opposite political angle of shit like Terfenstein and Smash MAGA, it functionally has the same flaws:
* It's technically inept, to the point of being almost unplayable.
* It's hilariously proud of itself, despite being a completely unplayable piece of trash, and that's completely discounting the political ethos attached to it.
* As a result of the above, it believes the purity of its concept and message matters more than the actual gameplay. Terfenstein doesn't bother with a story, but the message is clear: Murder women who don't accept the transgendered. Smash MAGA makes blatantly obvious that it feels that half the human population in the USA are effectively sub-human, and Ethnic Cleansing is made by the National fucking Alliance.
* All of them are hilariously racist, with Terfenstein quietly implying it's fine to kill ethnic minorities, Smash MAGA having you recruit nebulously brown people as cannon fodder, and Ethnic Cleansing being fucking Ethnic Cleansing.
This shit isn't funny for the sake of being clever, like MoonMan Doom, where the game's racist content is so overt as to be impossible to take seriously, or Hatred, where the game's mediocre but at least has self-awareness. It's an incompetent game where you gun down barely animated models in an arena where the environment often fails to render, and the game's proud of itself because it made those barely animated models into the likeness of people the creators hated. More proof of horseshoe theory in action. And the crazy part is that you can see that this thing is absolute trash without even discussing the politics of the game itself. Yes, EC, I see that you snuck the Bix Nood poster in there and Happy Merchant posters into your game. If your draw distance were more than 5 fucking feet, maybe more people would notice them, though I suppose that's difficult when your Klan hood is on backwards.
I actually tried to make a full review of this one a few times over the last two years, and I couldn't - for much the same reason Smash MAGA was such a drag to get through: the amount of effort I'd have to invest on getting through the game to make fun of it is significantly higher than the devs themselves put in. Terfenstein was a rare case where the game was just as bad and yet I still had myself a time because there was so much to make fun of, but you are looking at a goddamn joyless experience here.
Jesus Christ, they made that? Ew. No, it's the 2014 one where they replaced Garret with an edgy wannabe ninja who says "fuck" a lot and has a level in a strip club and every mechanic is dumbed down, and it's basically the worst excesses of mid '10s slop mixed with all the bad cliches of the late 00s for an overall experience that felt desperately pathetic in how hard it tries to be trendy and horrifically dated even for its time.
It was so bad that Dishonored 2 brought in Garrett's original voice actor as a humiliation ritual for Edios.

I'm almost glad something like Ethnic Cleansing exists as is. Nobody took it seriously as a product, so its intent failed. Rather, it exists upon itself as how inept these sort of people are in creating anything remotely interesting or functional. The importance that Ethnic Cleansing and the like has is if people ignore and ridicule it, its message goes nowhere. I'm sure somebody could ironically MAKE a better game with that material with just a bit of competence and vision.
Speaking of edgy games i know there is one made by some japs in rpg maker its basically a school shooting ?sim? i remember reading about it on /v/ few weeks ago i tried quickly searching for the archive but i gave up since idk which archives are good.
From the thread i think game was functional (it has easy and hard mode some gun customisation etc...) so i guess it is a legit game.
(and here is random creenshoot with tips for the game ) (i sent it to my frends cause it looked interesting but i never bothered to play it but i do have link for it) Game link
Had anybody played Misery? It looks like a neat cheekibreeki stalker game but when I tried to watch a twitch stream of it to get an idea of the game the only person playing it was some broad who was going through crates and collecting food. It's it worth the 8$ or should I just move along?
Even in cases where a GameCube port isn't technically superior, Dolphin is still a significantly better experience than PCSX2 in a whole bunch of ways. To this day, there are a fair number of PS2 games (even popular ones) that don't run particularly well.
I asked two AI algorithms to evaluate the differences between the four consoles using two actresses. React accordingly (, )if you want to see what spit out.

I'm probably just a really jaded asshole boomer but I couldn't care less about anything when it starts with "AI said this." My eyes immediately glaze over and I skip everything.

Finished Chrono trigger since it was the latest Android port for the switch. Not a bad game. Surprised I managed all through with some of the quests.
Tonight I thought I'd try disco Elysium and during the intro thing the dr who phrase Allons-y! Irked me and set the mood for the game. Needless to say I'm trying out live a live right now.
I need some decent RPGs that are on the switch. In the mood for something story rich.

Never gave Xenoblade series a try. Honestly, something like Chrono trigger, sea of stars, live a live right now is actually fun. Nothing too demanding like octopath (I really hated the grinding). SMT for 3ds was like the perfect game for me, great ost and the story wasn't too gay. But the SMT on the switch is gay to me.
