To be fair, most young people are vaguely aware that the dollar is essentially backed by nothing but the Emporers Clothes and expect any savings to become worthless the moment people realize that said clothes don’t actually exist. We are already seeing rapid inflation where the price of everything has doubled several times while growing up, and a savings account where you might get 5-10% interest seems like a losing proposition when you can make better use of the money elsewhere.
