Nolan's The Odyssey - Potentially could be epic or an epic flop.

I feel like the reaction of the online right to this movie has been retarded. And that's to be expected since so many "chud" accounts are basically grifters. But they keep the buzz going by talking about this pile of shit, and many of them are going so far as to actually go watch the movie, which just ends up supporting it directly anyway.

Nolan has always been a pretentious twat and has been coasting for almost 20 years on the success of the Dark Knight trilogy. He very clearly did the casting and writing on this the way he did to piss off Le Chuds and probably started this project back during Peak Woke when he thought that would guarantee massive success. The ugly as shit sheboon Helen, casting an emaciated pooner like Ellen Page to be a Greek warrior, all of those were little gimmicks he played to jab at his ideological enemies. And from everything I can tell, he used a cancerous ass feminist retelling of the story and more or less butchered the pieces of the plot that are actually compelling in favor of letting Fagg Damon mope around a lot.

But this reactionary bullshit just keeps them excited. A better response is to just not watch the shit and not give it social media presence, warn your friends irl it's garbage and mock them if they go to see it, but otherwise just starve this tumescent waste of money of any and all attention.

Also this motherfucker wants to do his gay ass trauma dump movie, but he forgets one key aspect that would tie into his bs movie.

HE OMITS THE MOTHER FROM THE UNDERWORLD

YOU KNOW THE PART THAT REALLY FUCKING PLAYS UP THE GUILT AND PTSD ASPECT OF THE MYTH. BUT NOPE CANT HAVE THAT

Instead he get the troon

Bet you 20 unbacked rothschild debt notes that Damon was chosen specifically because of his role in The Martian... "I've just gotta get back HOME!"

Damon worked with Nolan before. Of all the things to complain about, this is not one of them. Good directors will choose actors they’ve worked with before because they’re a known quantity and are less likely to cause problems or make unreasonable demands.

Damon is a bit of an ass but he seems like the ‘journeyman’ type of actor who actually does his job, shows up on time, reads the script and memorizes his lines, and gets into character, as opposed to some actors known for being lazy or demanding, historic examples being Marlon Brando (kicked from the Godfather Part II) and Alec Baldwin and more recent examples being Ben Affleck and Jared Leto. Sometimes actors and directors just don’t gel, like Kubrick and Kirk Douglas, both brilliant people who should be in charge of their own stuff, not working together.

and Jared Leto
The man is a genius though. His performance as the Joker is something that only an acutely sensitive soul could have come up with. He wears a mask of a thousand faces and each of those faces is some Joker fan out there. It is kinda uncanny how accurate his depiction is.

I hope he is ok now. One can only imagine what a tremendous toll this role must have taken.

Pretty good 9/10. Tom Holland sucked in this movie until the last hour though, but everyone else was great. The black people casting takes you out of it when it pops up, Ellen Page was annoying but they specifically picked her to die bc she's a lil dooooood (lmao) plus you know she was cast bc Nolan likes to work with the same people and having buhlack peepo and a troon fulfill the diversity quota and put this in the Oscar running if it already wasn't. But they're not on screen long and it wasn't especially jarring by the time you're past it. The fall of Troy was pretty sick, the monster scenes and Circe was pretty sick, the armor was goofy but it's a movie so who gives a shit.

Honestly, I don't get the wankfest terminally online retards are having over this movie. One of the best performances Matt Damon has done in years.

This has only slightly to do with the Odyssey...or has it?

There is a movie coming out about an african fantasy book...and Africans on Xitter hate it because there are no nigerian actors, only black british and american actors (so similar to what happened in the Odyssey except no joggerfication). They are also complaining that it looks like Wakanda and not the Yoruba culture it's based on. There is a mini war going on between black americans and africans in the comment section. There is also drama behind the scenes because the african writer wanted annoying Amandla Sternberg to be casted but later she blocked Amandla and distanced herself from the movie.

Modern Hollywood treats every culture (except jews) like shit.
There is more hilarious drama to come!

Some Africans are even talking about the Odyssey diversity hypocricy and argue with woke fools

There are way more angry comments.

This is proof that the casting choices in the Odyssey were 1.) Oscar bait and 2.) a demoralization technique against whites.

There are no white people in the african fantasy movie. No jeets, no slants, no trannies. Africans may hate the casting but they haven't been racially replaced.
This was mentioned in the Marvel thread, but there is a term called "African kitsch", and it seems like ever since Wakanda has been "established", many "civilized" African nations like in Coming 2 America, The Woman King and now this movie have essentially copied it and adopted the same structure and illogicalities, although with C2A, it's a ridiculout comedy.

They've grouped African into this one thing when Africa is a very diverse, nuanced continent. They get outfits and traditions just plainly wrong.

Personally, I would be interested in casting African talent in projects like this to see what they have going for them.

They played a trailer for a movie about the making of Rocky before the showing at my theater, it's called I Play Rocky. After watching the Odyssey, I was in the mood to watch Rocky again to remember what good movies were like. If you haven't watched Rocky, please do so. It's literally on the internet archive for free.

I keep hearing that this movie is a runaway success since it made like 300 million at the box office this weekend, but it needs like a billion dollars to profit?
Its a runaway success if you don't understand how hollywood acounting, theater - studio profit split, investor performance expectation or how film marketing budgets work.

If you don't know how any of these things work, the movie cost 250 Million and made 300 in its first week meaning it is a big success. However, the real numbers when you account for all of the above show a movie that could struggle to break even.

The 250 million doesn't account for actors salary, directors cut of the profits and likely a whole cavalcade of ancillary costs they are not required to disclose (potentially 50-150 million on top of the budget). Marketing is anywhere from 50-100% of the films budget (so at a minimum 125 Million, very likely more). Theaters take 30-70% of the profit depending on where they are in the world regardless (meaning best case scenario, you have to add 30% of to the total budget to get a break even point).

Roughly add this up and you get 800M - 1,000M as the break even point. And investors don't want to just "break even", they want to make some healthy fucking profit especially with movies that take years to make. Example of this was actually shown with the Deadpool and Wolverine movie that was touted as a rave success, but now that we know more about the behind the scenes accounting it actually didn't perform that well and was considered to be rather disappointing finance wise because the REAL cost to make it was simply so massive (because of the above factors).

If The Odyssey has bad word of mouth (which it for the most part does), its second week drop off could spell disaster for this things theatrical release. But we will have to wait and see.
