Nolan's The Odyssey - Potentially could be epic or an epic flop.

People keep saying "casting doesn't matter Chud!" But I don't see any investors lining up to fund my whacky buddy comedy version of Schindler's List with Seth Rogan as Oskar Schindler and Will Ferrell as Heinrich Himmler.

That $250 million also doesn't cover Nolan or any of the other actors' pay, so add at least another $50 million to cover that.
Nolan has 20 percent first gross share before the studio gets anything with a 20mil minimum guaranteed (has had this since Interstellar). He'll probably get 50-70m or more when all is said and done, himself so tack that on top and we're getting close to 1b break even.

A lot of films this size off set their insane budgets with product placement, that is how Warner Brothers made bank on Man of Steel.

I am trying to figure out what kind of product placement this film could have had.

Trojan brand condoms maybe???
If I had to guess, Warner Bros execs were probably thinking this would be an Oppenheimer-level box office and Cultural sensation, and it just doesn't have that kind of motion.

Oppenheimer had less than half the budget and nowhere near as middling word of mouth.

Him insisting on IMAX film in 2026 makes sense given this🤔

Modern Hollywood treats every culture (except jews) like shit.
Modern Hollywood is abomination of progressive leftism and American exceptionalism. Literally anything, including other countries and cultures, should reflect what they believe modern USA should look like. We saw it in the Assassin's Creed game with a mythical nigger in it, we saw it with Black Cleopatra, we saw it now here in this movie.
There is a movie coming out about an african fantasy book...
Africa has own producers better than Nolan, they should've invested money into them and make movie 100 times cheaper, 100 more genuine and 100 times more culturally/historically accurate.

There is no fucking way in hell budget doesn't cover actor pay.
They only put stuff in the "budget" they have to report. They do not have to report actor/after release pay, so its usually not included. This is to make the budget look lower than it is to appeal to investors and sell the narrative that they "succeeded" at the box office (for both press and again investors).

This is the irony of Hollywood. They espouse these leftist, progressive ideals about ‘multiculturism’ but they absolutely hate foreign productions that are made outside of their studio system.

Since this is kind of relevant, I remember reading a version of the Illiad way back, it had Posiedion (or one of the other gods) pretend to be a fishmonger during the siege so he could steal a kiss from a woman who was shopping in Troy. A quick search says that apparently that doesn't happen in the Illiad, so I'm assuming it's from a more recent translation/rewrite, does anyone know which version I'm talking about?

What I never will understand are people who claim to be counter culture actively cheering on a subpar movie making money when they constantly whine about capitalism and big corpo. It's such strange behavior that these people actively deep throat pop culture which essentially underneath it all is what they claim to hate.
