King of the hill appreciation thread - Yup.

It's leaving a premise on the table though. Hank gets Bill to lose weight is an episode by itself and it happens off-screen really fast.
Its been done already through, while it is a reboot and likely wouldn't feel overly stale I give then props for not falling into that trap early. Beyond the first episode mirror the original debute

It's been a few years since I've done a proper full rewatch but I have seen the full series several times over and this is how I would rank them. KOTH is one of those shows that never got bad. 10-13 aren't bad and even have a few great episodes but on the whole are just whatever.

So are you Chinese or Japanese?
That scene is actually lore accurate.

I'm white/Chinese but I have blond hair and blue eyes, the shape of my eyes is really the only way you can tell and even that isn't super easy because I wear glasses.

Years ago I went to a country bar and some old ass redneck swaggers up to the bar throws down three shots and turns to me, squints and says "when did we start letting chinks in here?"

Mfw some people are really really good at racism.

It’s basically that meme of “studying other cultures so my racism can be accurate”.

Ironically, I’ve seen more racists know about other cultures than rainbow coalition-ites. It’s just one of those things that makes real life seem like it has a good comedy writer.

Hey, if you're gonna be racist, it's smart not to be ignorant so you can be racist in the right way.

Its because most racists didn't start out as racist and only became racist after interacting with the various other racial groups.

For example. most people who hate blacks started out as bleeding heart liberals who "wanted to make things better for Africans" by going into their slums to "improve" the various aspects of there lives. Only to be met with immediate and extreme hostility, to see that the savages only see kindness as nothing but a weakness to exploit and ultimately to disprove every single lie these bleeding hearts were told about the plight of the black man.

The dangerhair cultists either don't interact with these "enlightened" cultures or are so mentally ill that they can't break the conditioning even as they are being strangled to death by those they are trying to "help".

this is pretty wholesome- honestly. Part of why I do like KotH is partially because it feels like a bit of a time capsule to my youth and growing up in the mid 2000s (in a way that the Simpsons doesnt quite capture, Im sure its more relevant if you grew up closer to the 90s and were born in the mid to late 80s)-

but also, its a genuinely good and well written show. There's nothing where things tend to drag on needlessly in an episode, its got a very dry humor at times, slapstick at others, and its just a proper show. There may be individual episodes that are just "okay" (as the show dragged on later and later, I tended to see a few of them),

but so much of the show just reminds me of my youth and the world we once had- its weak, but its my favorite nostalgia perfectly packaged for me, unironically.

mixed race "people" on my racist hate site! who would have thunk it

The only one I can maybe count as outright bad is Lost In MySpace.
I wouldn't even say it's bad per se. It's dated, sure, but the plot is about a THOT going mad from oversocialization and she gets the company in trouble from her stupidity. That happens every day on LinkedIn.

Now "Dusty old bones, full of green dust" is a bad episode. Or the ZZ Top episode.
