... I'm really hoping this doesn't end up the next Ultrakill in terms of "promising unfinished game gets mangled beyond recognition before it can even get to its full release due to troons infesting its dev team midway through development". I already had to witness that once, and I'm still bitter about it.
Stay strong, Toby. Don't let them Matt Thorson you.
In what way has ultrakill been mangled? 99% of the degeneracy associated with the devteam has been kept strictly out of the game itself and the gameplay ahs been steadily improving chapter by chapter. The idea that ultrakill has been somehow "mangled" is retarded. You play ultrakill without ever interacting at its community and you get an extremely high quality mobility shooter with great music, great gameplay and great level design.
You play deltarune without ever interacting with its community and you're presented with 5 chapters of nonstop filler, yurislop, and story that drags its feet while mystery boxing nonstop, stagnating gameplay, an author that makes fun of people for actually caring for the plot, and the latest chapter has a literal niggerfaggot in a tutu pretending to be a ballarina.
I'm genuinely asking, in what way has ultrakill been "mangled" worse than deltarune?
and Layer 8 is NON-EUCLIDEAN GEOMETRY WITH BIBLICALLY ACCURATE ANGELS OH MY SCIENCEEEEEEE
ULTRAKILL's retardmeter differential is far larger from what I can see. There are definitely some parallels, but I really doubt that Deltarune will ever reach that low. Mainly because Layer 9 will probably be even worse, geg.
L take. I'll copypaste my response from the ultrakill thread when another retard said the same thing.
That's a pretty disingenuous interpretation, the point of it is obviously not meant to be scary, but to be an intresting battle arena. Plenty of games do the "non eucledian" bit for horror or puzzles, but none of them do it for shooters. Its reasonable imo to try and spice up the last layers with unique level wide effects and twists instead of just making more generic arenas.
"Standard" level design peaked with Violence, there's no point in trying to just do violence again and getting a worse version of it. I assume treachery will also be unique or turn the game on its head in some way.
And besides, yeah it has the backrooms, but in case you didn't notice it also has the O'Neill cylinder/dreamlike inception like wraping city.
Idunno, its just funny that you can look at literally the coolest thing ever and go "heh, this sucks actually". You can dislike the devs for being trannies and still admit that the end result is good.
Shifting gravity, repeating rooms, and multiple recursive portals in a battle arena that give you infinite flanking angles in game with unlimited mobility is extremely intresting arena design. Yes in fact, non euclidean geometry in a mobility shooter is in fact based as fuck and I'd love to hear your excuse for why you think otherwise. Every chapter that came before the last has been more and more impressive and fraud is a marvel both from a gameplay and technical standpoint. Is it taking a bit long to come out? Yes. Is the end the result still better than 99% of games that have come out the past 10 years? Also yes.
Deltarune has done the opposite, every chapter has been lazier and lazier. 1 and 2 were fine, they introduce the characters, they have a bit of hometown and the alternative routes, chapter 3 gives up on both the town and alternative routes, chapter 4 almost picks up and chapter 5 again gives up on the alt route and completely stonewalls progression. Toby has also done very little to try and spice up the combat or the gameplay. In 5 chapters (also known as 10 years), the shifting perspective is the first time we get any sort of real gamplay innovation.
Deltarune has been stagnating massively while ultrakill is actively trying to push itself to ever higher heights. If ultrakill development ended tommorow, you're still left with an unbelievably good game you can pick up and enjoy in perpetuity. Ultrakill is already good. All deltarune is right now is 5000 unopened mystery boxes that promise one day they will be opened and one will totally tie the 5000 lose plot ends up in a satisfying way.
Deltarune is also on fucking GAMEMAKER. Like holy shit, if we're also comparing indy games, silksong looks better, plays better, and took less time to make than deltarune did with a smaller devteam.
Toby wasted 3 years on the chapter 3 minigames while Ultrakill was already at layer 7. I could go on a while comparing Deltarune to Ultrakill but I don't want to derail.
Deltarune has been more corrupted since chapter 1 than Ultrakill in it's entirety.
You are genuinely the last person I would ever imagine defending ultrakill, in fact earlier in the thread when I complained about you it was the ultrakill thread I had in mind. Can you actually make the comparison of deltarune to UK? I'm unironically genuinely intrested in reading it, specifically because its coming from someone who is obviously extremely critical of both games for better or worse.
