However. Even if coincidental I still have seen some strange things concerning Deltarune and Christian mysticism, especially in light of the weird route's twists and turns. If anyone is interested, I'll do a dedicated long post on it in this thread.
Another random thought: Aqua is pretty clearly supposed to represent Kris is a kid, which is an unusual choice, since this character is explicitly female, unlike the theythem protagonist. Now, wouldn't it be funny if Kris was a True and Honest Woman all along, but was forced to look and act as androgynous, unremarkable and quiet as possible to play the role of a generic self-insert for the player, and would be finally able to return to her genuine self after our soul was removed for good? I kinda wish Toby would do that for the sole purpose of uniting the progressive and the chudly segments of the fandom in their collective Internet-shaking superoutrage.
No, I think that might be a plan in of its own. Deltarune will be 10 years old by then, and if Tricky Toby wants to intentionally delay the game until then....I guess that would be a funny thing. Not gonna get too in-depth on my thoughts tonight because I'm tired (he wrote, before spending 45 minutes writing the following post), but I just spent the last little bit skimming through the thread pages around each chapter's release to get a feel for people's impressions here as the chapters dropped.
Having recently played through Ch5 myself, going back and seeing everyone's eagerness for this chapter to drop gradually turn into disappointment and even anger was kinda sad to read, because I actually loved this chapter. For sure, there's a lot of justified criticism I'm seeing in here that I won't refute, and the wider fandom's as impossible to interact with as ever--especially that particular segment, emboldened to be all the more insufferable in the wake of the TADC finale--but on the other hand, this didn't piss me off the way the whole situation around that did (for now--Toby's just barely grazing that bullet, depending on future developments). (to be clear, the TADC finale itself was fine in a vacuum, but the fandom has irrevocably destroyed itself in the aftermath and Goose's handling of that shitshow was akin to taking a fucking M134 to one's own foot)
In fact, after thinking it over, I think Ch5 might actually be my favorite chapter, and it had some damn fierce competition from what it dethroned.
If I were to rank them: 5 > 3 >> 2/4 (tie) >> UT > 1
In that regard, seems my preference is the less urgent, more character-focused chapters where everyone gets a chance to chill and bounce off each other. Which tracks: my favorite TADC episode was the fast food one. While I understand the complaints of how we're "runing out of time" for the larger game and Ch5 doesn't do much to move the overall story forward, taken as a standalone experience, I thought it was phenomenal.
Cliff notes on my thoughts:
+ The sidescroller segments were sublime, felt genuinely great just to control and I loved the dynamic ACT system--I'd play a whole game of just these
+ DR's overall gameplay has only gotten richer over time: I love how seamlessly the overhead, battling, climbing, and sidescrolling bits all flow together
+ Most of the flower gang were super-endearing and I really enjoyed their interactions, Aqua and Flowery are the standouts
+ Ralsei's fiercer attitude and rivalry with Flowery was very entertaining, goat boy's got some bite after all
+ Fucking gorgeous visuals this time around, especially the spritework, art team's outdone themselves
+ Music is Toby's strong suit as usual, Running Sky and Flower Man are the standouts this time + Weird Route is turbo-fucked (in a good way)
• Though a bit too light on the wider plot progression, I liked what we did get: Asgore was treated with due gravitas and Flowery went out like a champ
• Bit too heavy on the weebery, some of it was an "earnestly camp" type of cool like the Flowery fight, but the Pink fight was nearing my tolerance limit
• I don't actually mind Susie and Noelle hooking up inherently (although see negatives below), the lake scene was at the very least cute
• While Kris does feel a bit sidelined, I get the impression you're supposed to feel that way so I'll reserve judgement for now
• The flowers' fleeting lifespans: I appreciate the poignancy of it as a theme, but the in-universe reasoning falls flat when their situation seems solvable • Weird Route skipping Ch6--you'd better stick the landing here, Toby, because that's a heavy gamble you're making
- Almost no prior supporting characters in the new Dark World, which combined with the lifespan thing robs us of many, many potential interactions
- The festival was underwhelming for how much it's been hyped, I excepted something much grander and with far more content
- Of the flowers, Orange was a miss for me: I don't hate her so much as she just feels like a dud, especially as the final one to be revealed
- Susie's losing her edge, she's gotten too nice too quickly and though her basic friendship with Noelle is believable, the romance feels rushed
- Toby, I can see the red flags--please don't sacrifice Ralsei to the troon horde, we just had to suffer through this with Jax and they still haven't shut up

Him and his team will either castrate chapters 6 and 7 to release them in the same manner Chapter 3 and 4 did, or there'll be another 3 year gap like with chapter 1 and 2. There's a possibility for a hiatus, even - to create suspense o algo.

I'm really hoping this doesn't end up the next Ultrakill in terms of "promising unfinished game gets mangled beyond recognition before it can even get to its full release due to troons infesting its dev team midway through development". I already had to witness that once, and I'm still bitter about it.

None of these things look like the Titan we fought. I think what the plan with Asgore/Toriel and Undyne is is to turn them into another set of Roaring Knights, hence the 3 figures. This would represent the 3 symbols, The badge for Undyne, the tree for Rudy/Dess, and the Deltarune for Asgore.
The people that he started taking on didn't want him to include spamton in the 2nd one and he almost followed their advice. The world would be an infinitely shittier place if that influence was stronger then like it seems to be now with this 5th chapter.

The progress is even slower because they're inept and only wanted attention by working on le wholesome reddit game, the music is dogshit now, the game has had a year of delay purely dedicated to them developing SNCA, and Layer 8 is NON-EUCLIDEAN GEOMETRY WITH BIBLICALLY ACCURATE ANGELS OH MY SCIENCEEEEEEE
ULTRAKILL's retardmeter differential is far larger from what I can see. There are definitely some parallels, but I really doubt that Deltarune will ever reach that low. Mainly because Layer 9 will probably be even worse, geg.

A lot of characters follow that formula in both Undertale and Deltarune, as well as vidya in general. It does not make them reskins.

Both Chapter 5 and TADC (in its entirety) were completely and utterly raped, especially TADC. If you enjoy it thats one thing but I don't know how you can say the TADC Finale was fine without being a tranny goycattle who got raped as a child (granted "raped as a child" and "tranny" are largely synonymous)

As much leeway as I give this game I will never like chapter 5. Even if Ch 6 and 7 re-contextualize it, fix a bunch of shit and are both really good I'll still most likely just skip chapter 5 whenever I replay the game in the future.
