I just had to solve a multistage "click until there are no more faggots"...AFTER I logged in with 2FA. Not even bullshit email/SMS "2FA", real actual locally running program generating temporary one time codes. Because more locks means more secure.

Like I said, that is how it used to be: corporations pretty much ran mass media and heavily influenced trends. Then the internet came along and now the "little people" could make their voice heard. Without advertising. Now it seems corporations want the older way back, only this time even worse than when it was just physical media or broadcasts. So far the 'net went from being slow as crap but very decentralized, to fast but more centralized, to this even more centralized 'net full of SJW crap and "verification" BS.

The internet is changing again (Archive).
I'm a strong believer that companies will just tell you what they actually plan to do and feel like I'm proven right again and again these days on that front. tl;dr, the solution to AI bots crawling your website (and therefore not seeing ads) is.... making requests to your website cost money via Open Standard's OUSD micropayments.
You can look into this yourselves, but basically OUSD is this new stablecoin that just randomly appeared the same time that Cloudflare announced the monetization gateway linked above... And is supported by various fun-sounding groups, such as Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, BlackRock, and Coinbase.

Bullshit aside, I understand the need for a way to limit AI crawlers just flooding your website and effectively bottlenecking your bandwidth even (actually, interestingly enough, Cloudflare has done some actually good work on that for once). The monetization angle, however, may deter AI agents at first, but will just be the first stone set in killing the open internet. Micropayments now, significant pay-to-use later, when the infrastructure is there.

The thing is the phishing mails are getting quite good. I had one at work that looked like a 100% legit Microsoft message.
It almost fooled me, until I double checked the email address.

Anything that can be exploited will be exploited. Also often there are regulations around quite a number of sites especially if they handle payments. If they implement various security measures they can be fined. I am not talking about the bullshit like OSA, I mean stuff like processing credit card payments properly and other important stuff, that really should be regulated.

Has anyone else seen those "verification loops" with "Cloudflare" bullshit?

Like it will do the automatic "verification" process, then repeat endlessly, without ever letting you access the site you want to see?

With how long the Internet has been around, you'd think we'd be teaching the kids at school Internet safety, like they did with stranger danger and drugs.

Phishing emails continue to amuse me because they always come off as suspicious, my favorite ones spoof my own email address.
