UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679 (https://archive.ph/5Ba6o)

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

"52 innocent people killed on 7 July 2005"
Who murdered them?
He didn't even have to say "muslim" could've just said "awful terrorist attack" but I guess he doesn't wanna upset his sandnigger friends in mecca or the muzzie slums of Tower Hamlet. It's always like this, im sure if it were a white person who killed a bunch of his kind he'd be extremely subjective with this language. I really could fedpost about muslims but I dont wanna end up on a list.

Here britfren, I’ll use my freedom of speech powers to do it for you!

*ahem*

Islam is incompatible with British society on a genetic level. Even forcible conversion or slavery is not an adequate solution because having to look at their ugly faces is a torture no Briton should have to endure. Deportation would solve the problem, but the only true justice would be to use every last Mohammedan man, woman, and child in the bounds of the UK as a base for next year’s Guy Fawkes bonfires. Oh and Pakistan is still rightful British clay and counts as the bounds of the UK for the above.

a base for next year’s Guy Fawkes bonfires
We've had enough of them ruining our culture we don't need to go further. Guy Fawkes bonfires are with your dad's old work jeans and an old pair of tights.

I don't even know what you do with an excess of human corpses. I don't think you can mulch them down for fertiliser because it'd cause parasites or some shit. Can't feed them to the fish either because it'd just cause problematic blooms. We could just play jenga I guess?

Load them into a really big catapult and throw them at France. For old time's sake.

Labour, Tories, Restore not standing and likely the Lib Dems will follow suit. No word on the greens but would not be surprised if they don't stand.

The only candidates we have confirmed is farage and Binface.

Please for the love of fucking god let the most funniest thing happen.

Worcester Police caught on film throwing topless man to the ground. (X)
This was the moment a topless man was 'taken to the ground' during an arrest in a busy city centre.
The '10-second' clip, which was captured in Worcester over the weekend, went viral on social media
It wracked up thousands of views and comments, including some which questioned the officers' use of force and suggested the man had been 'knocked unconscious'.

West Mercia Police has since issued a statement to 'provide further context'.
The force said it received 'multiple' 999 calls on Saturday, July 4, reporting 'a man acting aggressively in the area', adding: "Callers reported that he had headbutted another man, who wasn’t known to him.

"The victim suffered a broken nose and required hospital treatment.
"The footage being shared online captures only 10 seconds of the officers’ attempts to calm and arrest the suspect.
"From the angle shown, it is not possible to see that the officer maintains control of the man’s arm and shoulder as he is taken to the ground, which is a tactic used to detain someone who is resisting arrest or behaving aggressively, as safely as possible.

"We recognise that, when viewed in isolation, the footage may appear concerning.
"However, the man was not knocked unconscious, as some online speculation suggests.
"Although he did sustain a minor graze to his face during the arrest."

The force said while the arrest tactics may 'appear alarming, particularly when just seconds of a wider incident are seen', its officers were 'trained to use only the necessary level of force to protect the public, those involved and themselves'.
A review of the incident, carried out by the force's Professional Standards Department, also 'found the force used to be proportionate in the circumstances, taking into account the details of the full incident'.
The force said the man, who was arrested on suspicion of assault and for being drunk and disorderly, has since been bailed and will return to the police station in August.

The statement, which was posted to Worcester Police's Facebook page, attracted dozens of comments.
Jacqueline said: "Police cannot win - you take action it's wrong. You don't take action, it's wrong!
"Unless people were there in person to actually see what happened then how can they judge and comment?"

Nigel wrote: "OK, thanks for the explanation. I'm always highly suspicious of short, unattributed, out of context videos. Carry on."
MJ added: "Only have to see the footage the other day of the person resisting and getting hold of the officer's baton.
"Shows how important it is to get that control first and foremost."

Tony said: "Good to see that the force used was deemed appropriate.
"However, as long as any review is done by your own there will always be suspicion that you are marking your own homework."
Another social media user replied: "The video is bound to raise serious questions. Whatever happened before those 10 seconds, he appeared calm at that moment when he was thrown to the deck and his head smashed the floor.
"Just a graze though they say. If that was someone you knew, or if that lad had suffered a life-changing brain injury, would people still be defending it?
No idea of context, if he was one of the local smackhead troublemakers or not, but the video is pretty nasty. I would not be surprised if he's lost a few teeth.
Anyone have any info on the reports that a man died in police custody in Blackpool?

So Restore are given the one and only chance to face off with Reform in a 1v1 to make the case to a right wing electorate why they are the better alternative and they... pass? The party who exist as a referendum on Farage are going to exclude themselves from a referendum on Farage?

Fuck off Lowe, it is clear you are only interested in your personal war at this point, this screams of knowing they will get spanked again and not have the excuse of it being a referendum on Starmer.

Something is kicking off in Lamlash Crescent, as allegedly 2 brothers in the flats are being accused by residents of being pedos. Police are there at the scene protecting the entrance to the flats
Allegedly locals have found the other Glasgow rapist (the recent one) Denison Charles and are demanding he be removed. The other was Jebril Abdelrahman, who was removed from his home by police after locals showed up not too long ago (X)

Immediate thoughts are a) someone has found out the names of the migrant rapists, potentially from a leak, and b) locals have realised that if they turn up outside rapists homes, the police protect them and remove them (how long can they keep moving them, and will the rest of the country pick up on it).

I'm surprised at how peaceful the crowds are at all these demos. I grew up in a pretty radical (left-leaning) crowd, I keep expecting bricks or fireworks to start hitting all the police ladies without even helmets.

Why do I feel like there is a fetish about this, and why do I feel like you know everything about it?
If I did then I would just say. The closest is mostly japs wanking over nazis.
Here are the videos from the X posts:
Either nothing will happen or everything will happen. Too many exposed faces. People are either not going to do shit or they have completely stopped caring and tnd is imminent.

Right wingers do that and you are quickly looking at a very long time in prison.
Not if you're behind the big crowd when throwing/firing (and face at least partially covered and no phone), cops won't break rank to chase through a crowd.

It's not like the left is always let off, there's a reason they have a ton of literature on how to fuck up cops and get away with it.
