They're pretty openly trying to weaken cryptography standards and have been for decades. Professional asshole (and delightfully cranky) crypto expert D. J. Bernstein has been taking the IETF to task for the past few months for deliberately allowing recommendations that weaken publicly-used cryptography libraries and seemingly manipulating their "consensus" process to specifically target and exclude him personally from the discussion because he's calling out their bullshit. They're doing all sorts of scummy things to fast-track changes that seriously weaken the standards (specifically, they're trying to remove allegedly "redundant" (i.e. "currently unbreakable") algorithms from the standard ciphers in favor of newer, not-necessarily-proven-unbreakable ciphers instead of new+old ciphers, on the excuse that the older "redundant" cipher just slows down processing, etc., but in reality combining hyped-up new ciphers with known-good old ciphers improves security by continuing to protect you if the newer cipher is cracked but your'e still doubling up with an older one too).

Very fucky bullshit, but they're not even trying to hide it anymore because they know nobody with any clout is watching (who isn't already on a compliant corporate payroll or working for a spook agency to begin with).
